  1. Total shocker that someone advances without meeting the cut weight. Pretty bummed though that it was more of the same with pitching docks. A couple of guys tried to fish out, but couldn't make it work enough. Now that the table is set who do you like to win?
  2. Jerkbaits: RC STX by Luck E Strike Shallow divers: Bomber 4a and Square-a Lip Less: h2o Xpress, Red Eye, XR50 etc.
  3. Lip less: H2O Xpress ghost shad Lip: Bomber 4a chart/blue back
  4. Chart/Blue Back Ghost Shad Brown/Orange
  5. Gotta throw a crank of some sort. Use a real erratic retrieve and mix it up until you get hits or follows. Bomber Fat Free Guppy, Sebile Crankster, Norman Thin-N are 3 cranks I caught them on last week, and you know how cold it was. It was 37* the day I caught fish on those baits. I will say though that I tend to try the opposite of what is "mainstream" when it comes to fishing. If everyone says slow down, I speed up. Sometimes fishing outside the box is just what those fish need to wake up.
  6. Nice spot! I too have been catching fish on square bills or cranks running in that depth zone. Caught a real nice LM the other day on a Sebile Crankster.
  7. Had Kingfisher dive and pick up my Sammy, luckily didn't get hooked.
  8. I have 2 of the 7'10" rods, they are kinda awesome! I had to call around to the various stores in my area until I was able to find them. Once I did, I made a trip and got the only 2 they had. Also the same with the 6'10" . Now they have a newer version that I'm just going to have to try. Can't wait to make a run to Academy tomorrow to see if they are in stock yet.
  9. I also tend to use lighter wire hooks in open water since I won't be needing to horse the fish out of any immediate cover. If I'm swimming a bait in and around grass, it's always a heavy wire hook.
  10. I have read that you can have problems with the Aird because the mag brake is located right where your hand will contact the side of the real and has been known to loosen unintentionally causing backlash. Other than that, i think the reviews were good.
  11. These new rods look great! I have 12 of the older models and love them. I needed a new spinning rod, looks like I may be getting a few
  12. I am a big fan of the Big Bite Baits Shaking Squirrel worm. I have always used the Trokar drop shot hook, but bought a pack of the VMC spin shot hooks the other day to try. Also got a pack of the Squirrel tail worms to drop shot as well. The tails float, makes it look awesome when you shake it.
  13. H2O Xpress 7'6" XH (feels more like H) Awesome jig rod $60 H2O Xpress 7' CC small - med cranks $60 H2O Xpress 7'10" MH big deep divers $60
  14. Will be there working the Pinnacle booth at the expo. I'm in!
  15. The only modifications I make are adding a red front hook. I have lots of all sizes of trebles, just in case I need to make a change while on the water to get the bait to suspend the way I want it. I have never had a problem with a $5-$8 the only way I'm ever owning any LC or more expensive baits is if they are on clearance or given to me. I fish the Lucky Strike STX and Bomber, and H2O Xpress they all put plenty of fish in the boat.
  16. Typically throw mine on 10-12 fluoro, but like WW2 said to each his own, and what works for you works for you.
  17. I don't think Denny was breaking his rods on purpose. True they do get their gear for free, but you could plainly see that he was trying to not let the fish hit the carpet. That is the second person I have seen break a rod because of that rule. As for stepping on his rods, well he's got 10 on the deck and he's not exactly a primed athlete.
  18. And his shows are shot over several days, He may shoot an occasional show in one day but I guarantee you most are shot in entirety over the span of a week.
  19. I have 2 of the Laser MG reels (8 bearing not 6), they are great for my cranking reels. I have the Speed Spool also on one of my flipping sticks and it's great as well. As far as I can tell with my limited experience, you can't go wrong with a Lews reel.
  20. Love Denny just dropping F bombs all over the place. Every episode he has been on at least one has been bleeped. EPIC!
  21. They have the old Vendetta's marked down to that price here. No new ones in stock.
  22. Actually the lake sets up great for him. The bloom is what killed him. It took guts to even give the bridge pilings a shot, was honestly surprised he didn't drop shot up a few keepers there. Will have to wait for the extended coverage late tomorrow to see how it really went, but him getting last and not even being on tv the whole episode was great. He must cry a lot in the extended coverage. lol
  23. But what I said about the fish is still valid. lol
  24. Fish are like people some people are morning people and others can't be bothered before noon. Fish are very much the same way. I saw a couple of fish yesterday in some ponds that were scouring the shallows looking for places to set up shop. The water temp (surface) is about 48 the air temp was 35. I have also seen them on beds when the water was into the 80's. Again fish are like people in that they live where they live too. Some stay shallow all year long and some stay deep. Weather may move them temporarily but they will tend to go back. Look at all of the people that live on the Louisiana coast for example, weather moves them out ever couple of years, but they still go back.
  25. Where you breaking fish off? Or where the just coming unbuttoned? If they were just coming off, I'm thinking swinging for the fences like you said may have pulled a big hole in the fishes mouth and gave them more room to shake the hook. Your spinner spinner bait fish caught on the trailer hook are probably fish that you totally miss with a line that doesn't stretch as much. Trailer hook bites usually shows lack of commitment by the fish. I also used Stren almost my whole life with no problems. My dad still uses it today exclusively. If my Wal-Mart carried it I would most likely still have a reel spooled up with it. Give it another honest shot, everyone has a crummy day where nothing goes right, hopefully better results next time.
