Five 2.8" for $8, Amazon prime day price. Edit: Got my delivery today and it's 6 pieces, not 5.
  2. If I was in your shoes, I would try either a Dobyns Champ XP 744C or Extreme HP 745C
  3. Curious, how do you like it for bottom contact? Can you feel pretty good with those light baits on the end?
  4. You are able to load and cast 1/8oz lures on a GLX 843? I had an NRX+ 843 and I can't imagine it being able to load and cast anything that light.
  5. If anyone cares, I did a live chat with TW support and they were not sure where the web developers put the Used item section link, but said the current workaround is to search for the word "used" in the search bar and it brings up the used item section. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/search-tackle.html?start=0&count=20&searchtext=used
  6. Does anyone know where to find the used section? It used to be on the clearance page, but I am not seeing it anywhere.
  7. If you can be patient for a sale in the used section of ALF, the Expride B 7ft medium was almost perfect to me in every way for 3/8 - 1/2oz things. I picked one up for $190ish + tax. I wanted a little lighter power for lighter things, so I sold it to get a medium light, but for that weight range, it was awesome.
  8. I had a cork handle tatula 7ft medium spinning rod at one point. It was a medium, but more power than I was expecting. I think it would be good for dragging 3/8 or 1/2oz lure packages. I didnt like how it loaded with things under 1/4oz and close to his rated max.
  9. 7:1 ratio is the MH/F of the reel ratios
  10. I always thought the lews LFS frame was the best, but recently picked up a Tranx 150 and it's so tiny. I imagine the Curado 150 MGL is the same.
  11. I am also a Dobyns fanboy but I was super impressed with the sensitivity and balance on an Expride when I had one. The handle thread issue irks me as well. I choke up when I hold spinning rods and have 3 fingers in front of the stem also. I dont mind holding onto a rod blank, and actually prefer that versus having a handle possibly muting any sensitivity, but I dont want to feel threads. I mounted a Stradic to a Champion XP 732 and it was ok, but I dont recall if there were any threads exposed when it was locked down. If anything, there was probably some exposed threads in front of the lock. I should have paid better attention, but I was impressed with the balance of the Stradic on a cheaper Phenix Feather that I was testing at the same time so I kinda ignored the Champ XP. I scoured google images to find a picture of a Extreme HP locked down on a Stradic but come up short. This is the closest I could find, a Tatula mounted to a DX703SF in Punch Fishing's video review. It doesnt look like there are any exposed threads and I assume the reel seat is the same on the full handle 7'4. I really want the Extreme HP 742SF to be comparable to the Expride 7'2 ML, but if the Expride is a lot better, then Expride it is, cork foregrip and all.
  12. I have both a Miravel 3000 and a Stradic FL 2500. Both are worth their price and fish fine. The Stradic is noticeably higher quality in all aspects. The weight issue is subjective to the rod you are putting it on as well as your preferences for balance. I had the Miravel on a 7'7 Phenix Feather. The rod is very light but also a little tip heavy because of the length. The light Miravel didnt help balance it out. The Stradic felt much better on that rod and my old Symetre FJ (9oz+) feels even better than that. The Stradic balances perfect on a 7ft Expride and I would think the Miravel would do the same, since that rod was not tip heavy, or at least not as much as the Feather. I sold the Expride before I could try the Miravel on it.
  13. sorry off topic from your question, do the bantam and the curado 150 mgl palm the same? or does one feel smaller than the other?
  14. I use the RP knot (very similar to alberto) for all connections of braid to mono/flouro. Its very easy and quick. The knot is especially small with 6-7 turns on 10 and 15lb braid to 10lb nylon.
  15. Looking for opinions from anyone that has handled both Dobyns Extreme HP and Shimano Expride Spinning rods. I'm specifically trying to decide between an Extreme HP 742 and an Expride 7'2 ML. Anyone think one is more sensitive than the other? Is one more powerful than the other? I had an Expride 7' M but I sold it off since I dont use spinning too often. It was very versatile but I think I want to be more specific with my spinning gear's use when I do need it. I will mostly throw dropshots (mosquito and light-wire EWG) and light t-rigs and jigs, 1/4oz and less. It will be paired with a Stradic 2500FL if that matters.
  16. I cast 1/4oz t-rig grubs for saltwater bass and halibut. I want to get max distance, especially when I'm fishing from shore. I have a Tranx 150 right now but it's not great at distance. I have to up my trig to 3/8 to cast as far as my Tournament MB can sling a 1/4oz. I really like how the Tranx palms and was thinking of giving a Curado 150 MGL a shot.
  17. Sorry to bring up an old thread, but does anyone know if MGL spools are made of magnesium? Do MGL reels/spools have issues when used in saltwater? Thanks!
  18. 2500 - 3000 sounds right to me. I think Daiwa BGs are kinda heavy, so maybe that's what you mean by "large." Any other mid to high end 3000 sized spinning reel is probably two to three ounces lighter. That's a really big difference.
  19. Not much experience with many brands, but between the Shimanos (Tranx 150 and SLX XT) and the Lews (Tournament MB and BB1) that I have, the Lews hands down cast much farther. I really gotta swing for the fences to get any significant long distance cast on my Shimanos where the Lews effortlessly cast far. I have more time with the Lews, so my brake settings might be more optimal. I'm hoping I can find the sweet spot on the Tranx, but so far its a little disappointing.
  20. I'm really awkward casting anything over 7'3. I can only cast consistently (accurate and minimal backlash) with 7ft rods. Anything longer and the side casts feel weird and the overhead casts backlash often. I dont want to spend time and am probably too lazy to try to fix my casting mechanics, but maybe I should.
  21. For some reason I thought the SLX XT had an MGL spool, but I was wrong. I also thought I read before that it was rated for saltwater, but that info does not show on the Shimano site anymore. I'm currently using the Tranx 150 on an NRX 843 with 30lb power pro. Mostly casting from shore for saltwater bass and halibut, so I want/need distance for those. I dont have an issue in fresh since I dont need to cast too far for green bass. I guess I can spool some 20lb on there and see if there's improvement, or just delegate this combo for lure packages that are 1/2oz and up. The Tournament MB with a Champ XP 703 (and sometimes 734) that I used to use primarily could easily outcast this Tranx 150/NRX combo, even with a 1/4oz jighead and plastic. I guess I will still have a need for that combo. I was hoping I could rely on the Tranx/NRX for everything.
  22. Anyone know if an MGL spool from a Curado MGL 150 or an SLX XT will fit in a Tranx 150? I'm trying to get more casting distance overall, especially with lures under 3/8oz.
  23. I remember when Lew's used to give great service like that. It really helps to create loyal customers. I am now venturing away from Lew's because the way they do support nowadays. Maybe I'll give a Daiwa reel a shot.
  24. I recall them carrying them at one point, I think around the time before the champ became the champ xp
