Does rod weight matter to you??
Only if it’s so absurd I wear myself out in a couple hours. Chucking huge swim baits on a poorly balanced rod that weighs a ton just sounds uncomfortable.

Daiwa Baitcasting Rods vs Edge Baitcasting Rods
I feel like it just comes down to technique. Tossing an unweighted senko under a dock? 852s. Throwing a big hollow body? Steez XH. Chatters? Evergreen shower blows rod. I think the issue with Edge rods for me personally is I don’t have enough data to pull the trigger. Similar to brands like Trika I can’t find enough reviews from people I trust. Other brands I’d be willing to sample but can’t find enough info on include Witch Doctor, Alpha Angler, Sawgrass, and Doomsday.

Evergreen USA rods. They have a massive following in Japan and make some amazing sticks but they don’t sell them here. If you’re seeing them on Digitaka, Asian Portal Fishing, or Japan Lure Shop there isn’t a difference. Those are shops I’ve used extensively in the past. The sierra line is a step above the fury.

Not ever had the chance. It’s not a super common brand in the states so I’ve never run into anyone who isn’t just using the jackhammer model.

Yup I rock the 7’2 moving bait rod for chatters/swim jigs/squarebills.

I’ve never been able to find out if they are the elite blanks without the Daiwa wrap or rebellions. Go here and click more info https://evergreenbaits.com/products/23-combat-stick. They are warrantied by Daiwa.

Wait until the evenings over the next week and check out American Legacy Fishing for any Daiwa/Shimano deals. Recently I got 20% off a Steez “The One”. They don’t advertise the sales, just go on the website and poke around. Right now Daiwa is on 5% off, but it can change daily or from morning to evening. I’ve owned a number or the Tatula Elites in the older line and they fished very well for their price point. Think of the Daiwa rod line as generally this progression : Steez Racing Design/Reel Control > Steez AGS > Zillion/Tat Elite AGS > Tat Elite > Tat XT As you go up from the XT you gain access to more unique tapers and the lines start having gems. I used the 6’9 Heavy Jig skipping rod as a close combat frog stick and it was amazing. As a side note, the Evergreen USA rods share production elements with Daiwa and they have some killer models.

Medium rated rods?
You’re suggesting I throw a 1/4 oz OSP finesse jig, a weightless fluke, and a 1/4 oz trig drop shot on a 7’4 HXF jig rod? A medium casting rod presents all of those techniques correctly and has enough power for lighter lines and hooks. Probably shouldn’t feed the troll though.

Medium rated rods?
I much prefer throwing lighter wire plastics on a medium.

Zodias isn’t my cup of tea either but many really enjoy using them. Levantes broke before the recall, I don’t have any issue recommending them today. It’s easy to say just buy an NRX 852s but when you dig into spinning lines there are serious gems. When I was fishing TN reservoirs I wasn’t in tune with them. Up here in the northeast I use a spin much more often on the river systems.

Tatula elite on sale, Zodias, Levante. It’s worth it getting into solid rods.

The reel is significantly less important than a quality sensitive rod in my experience.

Talk me out of a Steez
Buy a JDM Zillion. The current A2 doesn’t move the needle and is worse to palm.

I’d suggest something in the medium+ range on casting or medium on spinning. Some options would be a 1/4 to 5/8 spinning rod like the following: Evergreen Brett Hite Combat Stick Spinning Rod 7'4" Medium | RCTS-74M Megabass Levante "Shakyhead" 7'0" Medium Light Spinning Rod | F3.5-70LVS Or Megabass Levante "Enforcer" 7'4" Medium Spinning Rod | F4.5-74LVS depending on whether you like going heavy vs light. St Croix 7’3” MXF in the Victory line. If I had to choose one my personal preference would be the combat stick or the enforcer. If you can only bring one rod, and it’s spinning, I’d like the option to throw 1/4 oz jigs and heavier free rigs. The St Croix and Shakyhead are traditional medium spinning rods. They are both fantastic at their price points as well.

Greetings, I lived in TN for the last 15 years before moving to Maryland. My first question is where are you located? If you’re east TN near the mother load of reservoirs like Watts Bar/Chick/Douglas I’d have different recommendations compared to west or central TN. Are you fishing from the bank or do you have access to something that floats? Will you be walking any rivers?

Current Favorite Neko Rig Worm ?
I don’t like the volume of baits I lose with the thinner finesse worms. Even using shrink tubing or vmc crossover rings I tear up so many baits. If pressed I would prefer the 7 inch reaction innovations flirt worm. The cut tail adds a bit more action imo.
-
Current Favorite Neko Rig Worm ?
Daiwa Neko - Larger size helps I feel to get bigger bites. 5 inch Do Live Craw - same as above. Bellows shad - Still new in the rotation but good results so far. 3.8 Bull Flat - Solid bait. Use a neko hack to rig the non stick baits.

Bonafide 130 Fishing Kayak
I’m not sure I’d be willing to spend twice the cost of the hull on a trolling motor. I’d deal with 2-3mph.

ALF seems to have dropped the secret promo to 10%. Might be fluctuating the discount or the free 20% days are over.

They do this each year around this time and yes, $1.00 a pack for softbaits and hard baits at like $1.50 a pop isn’t unusual. Code required?

Steez AGS 7’6” The One
I don’t walleye fish what techniques at that weight do you throw for them?
-
Steez AGS 7’6” The One
For those with the current gen rod, how would you say it handles hard baits such as a vision 110, 1.5 and 2.0 crank, and minnow divers like the X100 by Megabass. I’d like to add a 3rd spinning rod capable of throwing single hook finesse applications such as the free rig and Keitechs on a ball head as well as some hard baits.

Fourth Rod Advice?
It’s not the weight of the bass it’s the cover you’re throwing into. I fished the Potomac a couple weeks back and there was enough vegetation I could use my punching rig. A heavy rod allows you to fish in the nastiest cover because honestly bass are hiding underneath it. If you see a massive cheese mat or a ton of milfoil there might be bass in it. You need the right gear to reach out and touch them.

Fourth Rod Advice?
A heavy power fast action or I’d look at a second spinning setup on the medium to medium+ side. Tatula Elite line is pretty solid bang for the buck. If you can stretch an expride during the now common ALF secret sales maybe that route. Your current baitcasters cover almost the entirely same techniques so I’d push more or less than another medium heavy fast.
