I like YouTube but the times I’ve heard tourney anglers just regurgitate tactical bassin instead of thinking for themselves worries me. You can wacky rig anything. You can neko anything. Throw literally any plastic on a free rig or Texas rig. Don’t let some dude on YouTube tell you what’s best.

Zillion HD has brass gears while the JDM zillion is aluminum.

After using both lines the Orochis tend to be more crisp and have more power. At the price point you’ve got so many options it’s hard to say what lines the best. MB tends to make a much more versatile rod for most applications which can help if you want to throw more than just a pitching jig.

I’ve mentioned before here that a ton of baits work really well as a neko bait. Spunk shads, flukes, craws, and the list goes on. The new neko hack tools also make rigging things like reaction innovation beavers super simple. I’ve moved almost completely away from just using a worm because I can change the presentation so easily to find out what the fish want.

If the bend is moderate you’re in for a good time. Most JDM rods provide both the length and taper needed to be a solid punching stick. For USDM I’ve liked the 6’9 skipping jig tat elite for the same purpose. I used mine for frogs and punching short cover when I was on a yak.

Most purpose built fishing kayaks today are stable enough to punch/flip from without issue. I felt stable enough to be on troll while pitching laydowns along a bank.

They work well for me on lakes that have bait balls. If you see a lot of bluegills and single bait fish running around bladed swim jigs aren’t the juice. If you buy the megabass ones off jdm sites they range from 4-5 bucks and at that price I don’t care if they only last half a dozen fish.

Evening everyone, I’m interested in fishing as a back seat angler for anyone in the MD area. I live in Columbia and willing to travel a bit to access good water. If anyone is willing to have me tag along I’m happy to pay towards the cost of running your boat. I just want opportunities to fish. Yes, my first event was on the Potomac. My boater had a great day but I skunked hard. I’d never fished tidal for bass. Anytime you have the space I’d be happy to pitch in for costs to go fishing.

Columbia. I’ve found all of the small lakes near me awful to fish. They are overgrown and unless you’re fishing the surface impossible to present lures properly. I joined FOBA a MD bass club and they have been awesome. I’ve tried heading to Triadelphia as well but not a lot of luck. Since I’m stuck on the bank my options are pretty limited unless I’m fishing a tourney with the club.

Personally, I’d focus on a slightly lower budget stick and get a budget graph. Being able to see water depth and structure leads to a significantly better time on the water. I fished almost exclusively from a kayak for the last few years and once I could see bottom structure I was able to locate more fish. That submerged tree in 8 feet of water is a spot that can produce time after time. St. Croix Victory Daiwa Tat Elite I’d also throw lighter weights with that depth. No need for 3/4 football jigs when it’s that shallow.

For 3/8th + trailer I use a NRX+ 873c. Ive tried the 893, 853, and 854 and found the 873 to be the best of all worlds. The right length, tip, and power. I also drag footballs in the 1/2 to 5/8ths with it as well. I don’t ever throw a Carolina rig with it. For 1/4 with trailer I like the St. Croix legend elite 7’ medium fast. Limber tip but plenty of power for finesse jigs. I’ve tried the 893 and P5 Xbites and didn’t like the lack of torque I got. At the time I lived in Tennessee and pulling 3-4lbers away from cover was a concern. I live in Maryland now and I suspect I’d like those sticks a lot more. Punching and big cover jigs I step into the 7’4” XH Steez. What cover/depth are you throwing to most often? Where in the country do you live? Do you have a boat or kayak to fish from?

Wide baits or baits with lots of appendages work best. That said a fluke will work really well if you’re using spinning gear. You need the line to keep free spooling as the weight drops and slimmer profile baits benefit from a spinning reel. I’ve used literally every bait I t-rig with as a free rig bait. Worms, craws, spunk shads, gill baits, and poop baits.

The top 3rd is ML then it transitions smoothly into a strong medium. With it being 7’6” you’ve got enough length you’re not suffering with the tip.

I don’t have any experience with the brand. They are using aluminum frames which is great but the price isn’t. Honestly just have him buy a JDM Zillion. There is a reason you hear everyone saying the same thing. I own 4 and an HD and they are fantastic.

I use these as well but with a crossover ring. I really like the 4 inch craw for delineating the small ones from the big ones. The 3 inch catches better numbers. Not a craw but a dolive gill with a neko hack crushes as well.
