When to shut it down for the year?
I fish until the lakes are fully iced over...or my 6-pack of Paulaner freezes between casts. Either way, time to pack it up and head indoors for some rod and reel cleaning and some guitar time.

I'm getting picky in my old age
I thinned out the heard significantly as I was just like you. Too many setups led to me switching far too often and thus my confidence was no bueno. Now, I keep it simple. a 3 power rod on my spinning rig. a 4 power rod as my Texas rig, light jig, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, etc. a 5 power rod which is my frog/top water in the summer, and my 1/2oz+ jig rod in fall/winter. Three setups that pretty much cover all my needs.

16’ Metanium Issues
No. I only used the brass main gear and pinion from the Curado K.

Anybody Got Purchase Plans Over Winter?
Been eyeing a Lews BB1 Pro as well as a Revo X as of late. Love my 16’ Metanium but for some reason that Lews and Revo look pretty solid.

16’ Metanium Issues
Hey all - as cold weather sets in I decided to be adventurous and sacrificed one of my Curado K’s for the brass gear and pinion to replace the aluminum gear in my Metanium. This was my first DIY attempt with a reel and it was fun to do...however; the drag isn’t the same now...I have to crank it down so hard for there to be any type of resistance. A few clicks of the drag star loosens it so much I can just peel line off without resistance. Anyone want to offer suggestions as to what I may have done wrong or what the fix might be?

serious about bass fishing.
I find the older (39) I get, a clear head and a healthy body far outweigh the “fun” of a floating bachelor party. And this is coming from a lifelong shore guy. No boat.

Quantum smoke accurist and tour?
I say give them a try. Reels are like guitars. Each is unique in their own way. I own three 16’ Metaniums and a Curado K. Solid reels....but so is my Revo X which cost about a third of the price. Go by fit (how it feels in your hand) then by feel.

3/8oz or 1/4oz jigs for ponds?
What a great question. Especially for this time of year here in NE Illinois. I suggest trying to keep things simple. Let your cover/depth be your guide. Mid-deep depth / heavy cover = 1/2+ Shallow-mid / light cover = 3/8+ Just my $0.02

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Just had a DX 744 delivered yesterday. Dobyns Champion Extreme 7’4 Heavy for you non-Dobyn-ers. Paired up with one of my 16’ Metaniums and some 16lb Gamma Edge. Can’t wait to get it out today! Primarily will be my jig and Texas rigged worm rod!

Which Shimano reel would be best for my Expride?
Good choice on the K. Super solid reel and that matte black finish is killer. In fact, my 7.4 K just knocked a 16’ Metanium off a workhorse rod. Sleek, minimal, and some beefy guts to boot! Enjoy!

Reel for Shallow-Mid Cranking
Thanks everyone for the feedback. Picked up a Revo 4 Winch as well. So I went from being budget minded to listening to the tackle monkey. Like I tell my wife though....better to have 10+ rod and reel setups than 10+ mistresses!

Reel for Shallow-Mid Cranking
As of now, I have a Curado K (7:4) on my Dobyns Fury 705cb. I’m throwing shallow-mid-deep square bills on it. I read that a 5:1 or 5:4 is the ideal gear ratio for crank baits. To experiment, I picked up a Revo X Winch in 5:4 to try. Supposedly the lower ratio allows for better feel and action. Thoughts? Anyone recommend a solid reel for crankbaits?

Fluorocarbon
Go try yourself some Gamma Edge. Pricey but worth it. For me, it outperformed Tatsu.

Dobyns rods
I’ve used the Fury 705cb and really liked it. Perfect rod for treble hook baits. I just upgraded to the Champion XP 705cb. Every Dobyns rod I’ve held have been top notch. From the Fury to Sierra to Champ XP.....quality and attention to detail are far superior to anything else I’ve tried. You can’t go wrong!

16’ Metanium Gear Swap
Got three in the arsenal I purchased new earlier this year. This winter would like to get them serviced and gears swapped with the brass Curado K’s. Any opinions on THE BEST shop to send them in for the work?

For the Bank fisherman: What "pushes" your buttons while fishing?
I only worry about things I can control. Pet peeve for me is when the ungodly kind of nature calls unexpectedly when the bite is good.

Tackle Shop Home Setup
Hey gang - Prepping to buy a house in the near future and am looking to setup my own “tackle shop” either in the basement or heated garage. Been looking at work benches online, spooling stations, wall holders for tackle, etc. Any ideas on other goodies to include? Feel free to post a pic of your home setups!

Sunline Sniper FC
I tried Sniper on more than one occasion. Found there to be a ton of memory. My experiences with it all have been in the past 6 months. Wasn’t impressed at all.
