  1. I absolutely must have a rod, reel, line, and lure when I go fishing.
  2. I don't look at any of it outside of getting a baseline before buying. I'm almost exclusively Dobyns these days because I know what to expect. I find that the 3 power spinning rods are more in line with a ML. I know some people say the power discrepancy only applies to casting rods but I disagree. A 3/16oz jig with a baby Rage Craw should be fine on a 3sf rated up to 5/8oz but the one time I tried my cast was awful and it felt like the rod would break. I fish Neds on a 3 power. I came from Fenwick though and their rods are stronger than what they say while Dobyns are lighter than what they say, so how it feels to you compared to me might find its reasoning in that fact.
  3. Do you not feel that the 703sf feel overloaded with a 1/4oz lipless? I find that anything more than a 4" Senko feels bad on the 3 powers.
  4. Fury 703c is perfect for me
  5. I use Strike King Tour Grade Tungsten in 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 usually. Always the lightest possible. But I rarely use a weight for a Senko, and yet it would be the one plastic I would choose if I could only have one. Sorta funny if you think about it.
  6. 5" Watermelon Red Senko Why that size? It catches littles and bigs equally. Why that color? It works for me no matter the water clarity, from clear to muddy. Why that bait? It's the perfect Wacky Rig bait. It's the perfect Texas Rigged weightless plastic; it's got the weight for casting gear and the ideal fall through the water column with the classic Senko shimmy. It's best weightless, of course, but works as well as anything else Texas Rigged with a weight. You can flip it into cover and its slender profile makes it a great punching bait as well. It's the most universal plastic.
  7. Don't rule out climate change. Every single year in recent years we've broken the record for hottest year on earth. Things are changing. Humans are dying from this in places like India. More people would die here as well but we're a very modern country capable of keeping most citizens in a climate controlled environment. The animals though...they have to tough it. It doesn't even have to be just heat. The seasons are changing and all out of whack and that has an effect too. Edit: the laugh react is responsible for this edit. Most people who react that way about those words together (climate and change) do so before of politics and/or disbelieving in human causes. Most people can and do admit that our climate and seasons are changing. The argument is WHY (natural and cyclical or human caused). But that's not the topic of my theory at all. I don't care (in this case) who or what is responsible, just that it's happening. The ice caps are melting and we're seeing record heat. We're seeing seasons change, shortened, later starting, sooner ending. All sorts of stuff. We're seeing animal extinction. We're seeing more and crazier natural disasters. You think this doesn't affect wild animals (in this case fish) as much as it does their environment?
  8. Bombing your targets will lose you fish. Up close pitching came about not just for accuracy but for soft entry. Soft entry is very important. I should pick up golfing since I'm good at hitting the green
  9. I've never understood that part either.
  10. I keep it in a box in the garage and then throw it in the fire pit from time to time. My dad was staying with my fiance and me for a couple weeks back in June. I left a spool of line on the living room floor and she decided to vacuum around it while I was at work. Apparently my dad watched her, waiting. Eventually it happened: she caught the end piece and sucked the whole spool up. My dad told her, "I thought that might happen." ? They then spent an eternity cutting it all out.
  11. It was a Fury 702sf with a Daiwa Legalis 2500, but now it's a Sierra 693sf with a Shimano Sahara 2500. Why? Dobyns rods run lighter than the rod label says, and while some say this only applies to the casting rods and not the spinning rods, I disagree. As far as the reel, well that's only because the Sahara is beautiful on the Sierra.
  12. I can traditionally cast and pitch crazy accurately, but the only thing I'm skipping is a rock.
  13. I was fishing a new to me pond a few years ago. There was a large slab of concrete in the water a few feet off the bank. Stepping on that would have allowed me to be able to hit a weed line. I leaped onto it and it was slick as ice. I feel backwards and was inches away from impaling myself with a sharp metal pole sticking out of the water. I've been absurdly careful along the banks ever since.
  14. Oh I don't know. I probably quoted you because I was responding. So on discussion forums people talk to each other. When you're engaging in conversation with a specific person there's usually a "quote" button that you push. Typically you quote someone who has also quoted you. Let me know it you need further assistance on how that works. 12# YZH isn't a "tiny" diameter line. YZH is known for being an extremely thick line for the # test it claims to be, hence why it's also known for breaking at almost double the # test that it claims to be. You can use whatever you want. It's not as deep as your feelings.
  15. Green Pumpkin Orange, Coppertreuse, and Green Pumpkin Goby are my favorites.
  16. I've pulled up logs with the 12# so I can definitely see a Hudd breaking it
  17. I like 4lb for light wire hooks and reel sets, but not for setting the hook with the rod.
  18. There's really no reason to use Yo-Zuri Hybrid in a test greater than 12 because 12lb Hybrid breaks at nearly 20lbs.
  19. River SMB slamming 1.5s is a feeling everyone should experience.
  20. Dobyns Fury 703c is exactly what you're looking for. I use mine for squarebills, lipless crankbaits, some top waters, weightless soft plastics and lighter weighted Texas rigs, 1/4oz and finesse jigs, etc. It's one of my favorite rods. The Fury 705cb is too whippy. The 703c is a great squarebill, lipless and popper rod. There's absolutely no reason to get the 705cb when the 703c works for these treble baits just as well and blows the 705cb out of the water for the other presentations like Texas rigs and weightless plastics and small jigs.
  21. I fish some ponds that Senkos don't work at all, period. The Senko has been over fished for years and the bass have learned better.
  22. Use a 1/15-1/20oz ShroomZ head. Don't use 1/10 or larger. It will sink too fast and get mucked up. Shake, glide, swim, and retrieve it all at once. Basically just fast enough to keep it from touching bottom. This will take practice but once you get it you'll be glad you did. It's one of my top producers in shallow mucky ponds.
  23. 6lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid or 8lb Trilene XL Don't be fooled by what the YZH says on the label. It says 6lbs but breaks at almost double that and has the diameter of 8lb TXL. The 6lb YZH is a fantastic do it all line for spinning gear.
  24. A start with a lipless and I end with a lipless. Why? It always gets bit. It will tell me where the fish are (start) and when I'm done picking them apart with various baits I always throw a lipless around to catch more anywhere and everywhere (finish).
  25. All times. Bass will eat Craw lures the same in summer as they will spring and fall (winter too if your water is open). Do you think a bass says, "I can't eat that because it's summer"???
