One reason would be because you can't throw a WP over vegetation without the trebles snagging.

Become a Weather Watcher
That's one of the reasons I don't even pay attention to it at all. Looking at the weather for me means to make sure it's safe (lightning), that I won't get run off (high wind and rain), and that I won't be miserable (freezing or boiling). My biggest bass have all come on hot summer days when it's supposed to be tough. The best days for numbers are also hot summer days. The sunnier the better. These are the conditions that the books say are bad. So...pffffft

Skill
Tom, can you describe how to detect a strike for the big bass you're talking about? All of my 5-7 lb bass have been on moving baits. I've caught a lot of 1-4 lb bass on soft plastics and jigs. This makes me wonder.

Daiwa Fuego CT Bait Cast Reel - Still Best Bang For The Buck ?
I have those Burger King hands too.

Is a baitcasting reel that is 7.3:1 ok for a beginner?
A 7 speed will allow you to do most things very well.

Daiwa Fuego CT Bait Cast Reel - Still Best Bang For The Buck ?
It's a good reel, but I like the Speed Spool a lot better. It casts farther and is infinitely more palmable than the tank known as the Fuego.

Does anybody use a Pflueger President XT Spinning Reel ?
It's been my experience with the regular Pflueger President that they aren't what they used to be, so much so that I would, and actually did for my lady, get a Trion for essentially the exact same reel at a lower cost. Turns out the Trion is outlasting the last President we have in this household. At that price range I would strongly suggest a Shimano Sahara (I bought my first and only from user ATA in the spring and its been wonderful) or Daiwa Legalis (I own 2 of the bronze-ish black ones; it looks like they've been revamped and now have blue accents; these have been outstanding).

Advice for lure choice and fish location in HIGHLY stained water
Watermelon Red [watermelon with red and black flake] (not to be confused with Watermelon Magic) is my best producer in both heavily stained, almost muddy water, and clear water.

Jigs, stick baits, and curly tail worms.

Advice for lure choice and fish location in HIGHLY stained water
Yep, Ol Monsters are always good. I'm hitting up a dirty pond tomorrow and have a June Bug Ol Monster T-Rigged and a 4" Watermelon Red Senko Wacky Rigged ready to go. Color based on what has historically been the best and not at all based on water color. It's pressured too, so super sized and/or down sized is always best.

Are High End Reels Worth Hundreds?
To me there's been almost no functionality difference between a Black Max or something like a Tournament Pro. The differences for me is how refined the reels are and how they feel in hand. Is this worth the 100, 200, 300 dollar price difference? Well if I lost all my gear today and had to start over I'd only buy a handful of Black Max reels. But I will say that I have a very educated thumb and can cast just about anything.

Light power spinning rods...
I only use spinning rods that behave like a ML. What the manufacturer claims on the rod is irrelevant to me since they're all so different.

Line conditioner users
I use KVD Line and Lure on everything. I also use it for tying knots instead of using saliva or water. I'm NOT light with it. I really spray it good. I like when the line on my spool is still oily and damp with it when I fish. It's superbly manageable and flies off the reel.

Advice for lure choice and fish location in HIGHLY stained water
My advice is to stop worrying about the water and lure colors and throw the kitchen sink at them. Don't worry about contrast, vibrations, blades, etc. Fish what you would normally fish with success under ordinary circumstances. Bass do not starve to death when the water is dirty and their prey doesn't magically turn into contrasting colors.

Become a Weather Watcher
This is one of many reasons I'll never be a professional. I'm a successful, stress free Average Joe. If the weather permits and I'm free, I go fishing and figure it out from there.

Can I use this "vintage" Lew's Speed Stick for baitcasting (#1-16HOBB)?
Do you have a reel for it? I've got a couple of shipments to make tomorrow. In rummaging through things I found that I have a lightly used Abu Garcia Silver Max that isn't in use by either me or my son. You can have it if you can use it. On me.

Random thought for the day
When they announced the woman referee to be in this last Super Bowl I said that, great, she'll be throwing flags for things they did in September.

Another Palomar knot question
Line diameter, especially with how it relates to the action of the lure you're using and your desired depth, is a completely different subject, though.

I'm done using a palomar with fluoro
This is the thread this belongs in. I replied to the wrong one earlier. Before I say this, it's worth noting that I use FC on 3 spinning setups. Other than that I use BG and YZH. But with that said, this problem wouldn't exist if we (we meant collectively) stopped believing 2 lies or myths or whatever you want to call it. 1. That bass are line shy and the "invisible" properties of FC are useful. And 2. That FC doesn't have, or has significantly less, stretch than monofilament. The truth is, in my opinion, that FC is a bad fishing line material that companies, YouTube personalities and pros (for sponsorship reasons) sucker people into believing is necessary and worth the ridiculously high cost. Using FC because "fish can't see it" while the bait you're using has lead, tungsten, shiny hooks, shiny blades, shiny wires or all of the above or more, is like ordering a diet Coke with your McDonald's, as if it really made any difference.

Remember when fishing reels came with a bottle of oil .
Maybe I'm misremembering, as it's been a couple few years or whatever, but I could have sworn that my Fuego casting reels came with oil.

Pit Boss vs bandito bug
It couldn't have been more than a few months ago that I saw Rob (aka LunkersTV) say that they were in the process of making their soft plastics more durable.

Really?
It's basically just a jitterbug. The appearance doesn't really matter.

Fishing in weeds?
The bass will definitely notice a frog moving along the top of those weeds. They either weren't there or weren't interested. Bass are incredibly aware of their surroundings. Even the sound of your car door shutting from the parking lot a good distance off can clue them in. You can run a weightless worm, lizard, creature, fluke, etc across the top of the weeds for vicious strikes. You can throw stick baits into little pockets and holes.
