  1. I up size and down size virtually everything and I have a lot of success doing so. How many threads have you read, articles have you read, and videos have you watched about the "best" size or "do it all" size? Everyone out there is throwing the same size. That's how I show them something different.
  2. Nope. I have 4 kids and a ton of animals. Money and space can be tight and vehicles must be practical.
  3. Same. I have no desire to have to tape my reels to my rods. But then again I don't even notice the balance issue some people talk about.
  4. Boat, all day long. Kayak, as long as my back can handle, usually at least 5-6 hours. Bank, 2 hours. I have degenerative disc disease in my lumbar spine and it makes standing too long very uncomfortable and if it's a bad day, outright painful.
  5. I agree with the Whopper Plopper. 110 is a better size, but 130 will cast farther, and SMB love the bait and will hit both sizes. What I don't agree with is a Medium powered rod. The upper range of Medium powered rods is 3/4 oz, with a lot of them maxing out at 1/2 or 5/8 oz. The WP 130 is a 1-3/8 oz bait, almost an ounce and a half. Unless this is some kind of specialized rod with specialized lure ratings that fall outside of the norm, you're going to break that rod and the cast won't be good.
  6. Not very eco friendly! Spiderwire belongs in the trash and from there it ends up in places where it endangers wild animals.
  7. There are some days where I just go to a nearby pond with my 693sf Sierra with a few Ned rigs, a handful of Senkos and a few 1/0 Gammy octopus circle hooks, a few Flukes and a couple 4/0 Gammy EWG hooks, and a popper. Thanks to @MN Fisher letting me know that a 1/4oz lipless will throw fine on a 3sf Dobyns I fished it and it worked like a charm, so I added that to the list a couple days ago. The soft baits fit into an empty plastics bag that goes into one pocket similar to Team 9 and the hooks and popper and now lipless fit into an empty glasses case that does into another. Makes for a very easy bank fishing time.
  8. I only crank with squarebills and lipless. Favorite squarebill color is chartreuse and black and favorite lipless is blue shiner.
  9. Pflueger quality just isn't what it used to be. For an inexpensive reel I actually prefer the Trion over the President these days. My fiance has 1 Trion in use and my son has 1 President left in use. No more after these are done. With a Daiwa Legalis sitting at $70 Pflueger and Pure Fishing better get it together because their existence is quickly becoming irrelevant.
  10. Yeah bad example. Carpentry is precision work and requires, well... Precision. I understand his point though that it's a nearly negligible difference. Except for when the difference matters, of course. Fishing... Well, not much of a difference in functionality between 3/16 and 1/4 ounce. To me it depends on who you are and what your goal is. Do you have 20 setups on board a fully loaded bass boat, fishing tournaments, needing to be absolutely perfect? Have both ready to go. You don't even need to be a tournament guy. If you've got the setups and a fully loaded bass boat as an average joe and you're looking to maximize your potential, have both. If you're a bank or a kayak guy, or a Jon Boat guy, all with different limitations on what you can have, not fishing every single day, for 8-12 hours a day, not looking to be a perfectionist, but rather practical, you're fine with one. My preference is 3/16.
  11. When I first tried braid several years ago, I was casting off Senkos left and right. It didn't take me long to figure out why, but long enough to be embarrassed to admit I wasted a couple packs.
  12. Check out the bass on that one
  13. I'm curious to know where you're fishing breaking hooks like that. Are we sure they're bass?
  14. Ned Rigs won't get snagged in rocks if you're using the right weight. I fish Neds in 6"-4' fow that's all rocks and rapids with massive success. Lighter the weight, the slower the fall, the least likely to fall into the rocks, more likely to catch fish. And then you need to do a quick swim, shake, glide retrieve. Don't let it hit bottom. Don't bounce it, hop it, or dead stick it. Keep it constantly moving.
  15. Don't walk around in boxers bro
  16. Looks like you did better staying in the bar.
  17. My dad is a blunt old man. One time we were in Best Buy and he was looking at monitors. The sales person came over and asked if we were doing alright and this old man aggressively pointed to a monitor and said, "I WANT THAT." I feel dad in this instance. I WANT THAT.
  18. The only stock trebles I have a huge problem with are the original Rat-L-Trap. A lot of people say they're quality and I think they claim they're mustad, but I swear they're never sharp enough to even scratch my fingernails and I lose a ton of fish if I don't swap them out. Fishing a lot of weeds and muck all the time doesn't see a lot of treble use in my arsenal, but lipless are a huge producer for me.
  19. Zakos, creatures, and craws is what I use. Paddle tails are reserved for swim jigs. Admittedly I hardly touch a bladed jig anymore. They've died for me around here. So much so that I got rid of a batch of Jackhammers for cheap. Swim jig is where it's been.
  20. That's why it's called fishing and not catching. Happens.
  21. When the fish is in my possession the rod goes under my right armpit and the bass gets held with my left hand as my right hand removes the hook.
  22. For big resistance baits, run with a 5 gear ratio to save your arms and wrists. For baits that you want to burn or that you move with the rod, use a 7 or 8 gear ratio. And if I'm fishing a bait that I'm retrieving with the reel, the rod handle is always tucked under my arm between my body and arm.
  23. Watermelon black and red flake, specifically. Not to be confused with any "magic" or red based varieties.
  24. I carry a pocket New Testament that I literally never read (I use the bigger, complete version at home). I guess I never considered this. It's always in my bag and is on the checklist even though I've never used it once.
  25. I rarely fish a spinnerbait, but when I do it's a 3/8oz on the 3 power. If you're using a trailer or going up to 1/2oz then go with the 4 power, but I promise you that you will like the 3 power a whole lot more for 3/8oz for casting distance, accuracy, bait control, and it has plenty enough backbone to set the hook.
