Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
I'm sure they exist, but I personally don't know of any leading manufacturers in the bass world who makes spincast rods. Again I'm sure they exist, but I never see them marketed because spincast and bass (and so much of fishing actually) don't really go hand in hand. You might get some jokes thrown your way but nobody will outright make fun of you for using a spincast reel. Most of us started that way - albeit as kids. A quality baitcasting reel will have you casting with ease on day one with proper brakes and spool tension settings applied.

Couldn’t tell difference between my cheaper and more expensive rod….
At the beginning of the season I cranked for hours at a time using a Fury with a broken right hand. I had to hold the rod with just my middle, pointer, and thumb. It wasn't too heavy and I didn't need to rest. Sure, it hurt, but the pain was worth it to me. No wasted time in my world. I've never felt handicapped in the sensitivity department with my Fury and Sierra series rods. Then I upgraded to all Sierra and Kaden, and as of a week ago I own my first Champion. The Champion is on another level with its sensitivity, far more sensitive than my Sierra and Kaden rods, which are more than sensitive enough to me. "Heavy" and sensitivity is as subjective as it can get apparently.

I personally have no complaints about the sensitivity of Dobyns.

- Any tips on selling old tackle to make room for new
A lot of the time I'll eat the shipping cost to sell things that aren't selling or to sell faster.- For The Working Fisherman
So many people get jealous at a person's retirement. In my mind retired people put the work and the time in. One day, God willing, it will be my turn. Also in my mind, retirement means you successfully completed your obligations to your family and society. But I'm also weird in that, being in my 30s, I welcome old age and becoming a grandpa because all that means is that I was blessed with a long, good life. Hopefully I get there.- Everyone comment opinion
No reason to get a dummy caster- The wrong one
Several years ago I was fishing a river for SMB and not having much luck. There was a guy not too far from me along the banks absolutely slaying them. I asked him what he was using. He was using a squarebill. After that day the squarebill would become one of my favorite lures. I also asked him what rod he was using. He said, "the wrong one." It wasn't until several years later that I finally understood what he meant by "the wrong one." He was on the bank with one rod and a small box full of lures. He was using the "wrong rod" because he was maximizing his mobility and therefore effectiveness on the bank As I said in another thread asking about the SLX XT, I recently got a promotion and my wonderful fiance bought me a gift. The rod I'd been wanting for pounding the banks for quite some time. The 684c Champion XP. I was "allowed" to pick a reel of my choice under $200. The SLX line of reels perfectly matches the Champion XP line of rods and I'd been wanting to try one since the original SLX came out, what, 2-3 years ago? Perfect! My reel (7.2:1 SLX XT) arrived yesterday, so today I pounded the banks with my new setup all morning, occasionally breaking to enjoy the nice day, read, browse the web on my phone (I have a bad lumbar spine). This. Thing. Is. Awesome. I caught 2 on a 3/8oz Divine Hybrid Jig with a Rage Bug, 3 on a Culprit Worm, and 8 on my ultimate confidence bait, the Original Rat-L-Trap in 1/4oz Blue Shiner. This setup was allowing me to cast my 1/4oz Trap 40 yards. Granted I always have my spool tension so loose that I have to be careful not to lose the knob (it's happened before!) and my external brake is set at 1. I didn't miss any fish on the Trap with this setup. I had no business bomb casting a 1/4oz bait on the 684c, let alone hauling in fish with its small treble hooks, but I was. I remembered that man along the banks of that river all those years ago this morning while doing so. What rod? "The wrong one." I couldn't be happier with the versatility of this rod and reel. In the other thread I said I wanted to try the SLX MGL and get a Champion XP in the 3 power to put that reel on, and I do, but it won't be this year. I had already upgraded all my Furys to Sierras and Kadens, and this rod was a special gift, not a green light to buy even more. So we're going to avoid that in the immediate future.- I’m playing “chicken” with tackle warehouse.
Tackle Warehouse had problems for the first time that I can ever recall... During the height of COVID-19... As did everyone else. They weren't unique in that, nor were they at fault. I've always done overnight shipping with them because I'm impatient and because you always get your stuff when you're supposed to by doing so. That said, most of the time I take the 90 minute drive down to ALF. It's so worth it.- How many "Average Joe" bass anglers do you think are out there who could dominate the pros?
Just read up on Bryan myself. Incredible, and sad. Thanks for mentioning him.- Bass Fishing Memes ***PG ONLY***

"Tell me you suck without telling me you suck." ... "I fish the ramp in tournaments."- Best Bass Rod
I've never used that rod, but I haven't heard any bad things about it. 7' M/F is as versatile and general purpose you can get out of a spinning rod for bass fishing. You're going to be limited to finesse techniques and downsized power techniques. That's a good place to start. That reel would go on a sub 7' ML rod for me. 1000 size is small.- SLX 150 XT
- Best Bass Rod
The best all around spinning rod for general use in bass fishing is a M/F in whatever length is suitable for you. The best all around casting rod for general use in bass fishing is a MH/F. Bass fishing is like golfing. Just as there is no one club for every situation in golf, there is no one rod for every situation in bass fishing.- Versatile Cranking Rod
For what you're talking about a 3 power Dobyns would be perfect and allow you to do some other things as well. Whatever series fits your price range.- SLX 150 XT
Every addict needs his enabling friends.- SLX 150 XT
- Versatile Cranking Rod
One setup can crank, jerk, and walk, but it can't cover the whole spectrum. I have a setup that I use for KVD 1.5s, 1/4oz Traps, Flukes, Super Spook Jrs, Poppers, Whopper Plopper 90 and stuff like that. So technically that setup does everything you're wanting, but it's specified being that everything is between 1/4-1/2oz and it's all shallow. For you cranking could mean deep divers and walking could mean 1oz+ Spooks and Spook style baits, which one rod could do, but you wouldn't like that same rod for jerkbaits. The question is more complicated than you presented it. It entirely depends on what these things mean to you. It's entirely possible to find one rod to do these things... Kind of... With limitations... And we need to know your limitations and specifications...- How many "Average Joe" bass anglers do you think are out there who could dominate the pros?
To clarify my choice of words in the title meant Average Joe = not a pro being paid to fish Dominate = someone who could be a star in professional bass fishing if they had the money and the will to do so- SLX 150 XT
I ordered an XT but I want to try this MGL out too so I'm going to order a Champ XP in the 3 power and slap an MGL on that. Hi, everyone. I'm ironbjorn, and I'm an addict; a sick man in need of help.- Carp fishing Downtown Chicago
I was last on that river walk downtown 2 years ago. Crazy how much of a ghost town it is in this video. Covid related?- How many "Average Joe" bass anglers do you think are out there who could dominate the pros?
I, my dad, and a few friends play league 8 and 9 ball. I'm good but not great and I don't take it seriously because I prefer to fish. My dad and one of my friends regularly go to state, and from there to Nationals in Vegas. My dad and friend have both been top 8 at nationals. Both have regular jobs and, of course, families. I think we're missing out on many talented people in many different sports due to lack of funds and obligations. - Any tips on selling old tackle to make room for new
