  1. this dorky thing might be one of my oldest remaining pieces of fishing gear. the humble casting plug. one of my friends didn't even know what it was. he uses a hardware nut I owned this exact same practice plug for decades. I bought it when I got my first bait caster. I bet 28 years ago? I was a hot mess back then, but a few hours in the front yard and I was casting like a pro. It is a miracle I even still own it (the plug). I can't even remember how heavy it is. maybe 1/2 oz. (I should weigh it). okay I just weighed it. it is 3/8th oz. pretty impressive since I was casting that thing about 50 yards yesterday with 50lb braid. this thing is an essential part of my gear. I do however own a bunch of random hardware nuts. sorry for the slow news day
  2. yup. a "sharp" sound. Sharp? probably lost in translation.
  3. i only have two spinnerbaits. one MB and one Nichols. both 1/2oz.
  4. we were pulling in our kayaks. he was on the docks. cool kid. brave. talked to us. i spared him the "stranger danger(!)" lecture and told him to cast to the tule line. he said he didnt have enough line. my friend Steve jumped into action. the kid produced a spool of line and we put it on his reel. he had these tiny shad colored swim baits and we said, "use these!" he said, "NOPE" i want to try this." he pulls out a tiny Rapala jerkbait. i tie it on and did a practice cast. it looked so cool darting back to me. we handed the rod to the kid and gave him a high five. i spent the weekend thinking about tiny jerkbaits. i googled a few. i think a tiny jerkbait would kill on some of my local lakes. especially in the winter!! and fun on a BFS setup. now i have a fistfull of MegaBass X-Nanohans on the way. that darn kid!!! the tiny monkey is a young, brown hair kid with thick eyeglasses!! i bet Steve is buying them as well. he will when he sees mine..mahuuwwahhhaha!
  5. this was my bass hit. i landed and the ripples were immediatly erased with a bass swirl. it was like i landed it IN the fishes mouth. it was one of my better cast. i found a 6 inch channel of seeminly open water in grass. the cast is not always repeatable
  6. i flew into Lubbock TX and hired a guide. it was way more cost effective than buying a hundred decoys, an enclosed trailer for those decoys, a blind, a dog, land access...etc. it was $150 a day with a two day minimum!!! it took 3 of us hustling to get the decoys out and picked up afterwards. so much fun!!! Lubbock is kinda weird..:) a Sandhill crane looks and sounds like lawn furniture falling out of the sky when you knock one down. we breasted the birds ourselves to save money. we did it at a roadside rest stop area. we pulled out a camp stove and cooked one. rare. blew our minds. so good. i think "filet mignon" of the sky is a better description. it is very lean.
  7. not to be "that guy" but. you gotta have a cushion in savings. experts say an 8 month supply of cash, should SHTF. having said that..congrats on your owning your dream rig. i dont even know enough to know what my dream rig even is. right now i only have day dream rigs.
  8. the best tasting flying meat is Sandhill Crane. by a mile. it tastes very much like beef, cooked correctly. my other favs are wild pig, and Fallow deer.
  9. no. the one i showed you. i didnt get it. i got over it pretty quick. Good Luck. i see bank fishermen everywhere i go. plenty of water to fish.
  10. i ordered it twice and never recieved it. i hope you found a better source. i see it on various marina counter tops. most of the bank fishermen i encounter are striper fishing.
  11. living where i live, inventory is all over the place. green powerpro is the most readily avaiable. so that is what i typically get. on my Spinning, i did get Suffix and it seems to last forever, beside losing color. i am good for at least another year on it.
  12. tried (for science) to run an FG knot thru the line guide on the reel. no go. hahaha. its pretty tight of a space, even for an FG. I will run straight braid for a spell and figure out where to go from there. I can bump and grind a knot thru my Shimano okay.
  13. I’d go with the yak attack blackpak next time. The middle sized one. Totally seamless.
  14. My wife is eyeballing Bellingham Washington I think.
  15. So I actually read the instructions. (Tiny as heck font!). I gathered you run the spool loose an these SV reels? Instructions state to get the spool just moving/clicking side to side with the thumb bar clicked down. It actually stated the reel is set to spec out of the box. Mine had lots of side to side movement. Okay. I can do that. But, this means I’m never doing that thing I’ve done from the beginning where I tie on my bait and let it free fall in a controlled manner? My friend lets his bait hit water or his lawn and he wants zero over run when it hits the surface. No matter how heavy or light, just leave the spool tension alone? instructions also state if I run the spool too tight the reel will develop a strange noise. Haha. I can’t remember exact wording..but talk about vague. I should pull out my Shimano instructions and give them a once over. Haha. I have a bad habit of foregoing instructions. Learned it from Dad. I spooled up the reel yesterday. Just as soon as I get up and put on pants, I’ll go outside with a practice plug, and coffee. I had 50 lb powerPro so I used that. I may not stay with it.
  16. This. I catch my wife searching for homes up there all the time.
  17. I don’t know enough to make a choice. There is so much I’ve never seen. florida? Not sure I could handle the storms.
  18. Hey there! Welcome aboard.
  19. Do you have this map? it has bank fishing locations on it if I remember correctly.
  20. I say Vanford 2500, but it’s a fairly delicate reel. That bail wire is thin. Great reel tho. my Procyon AL is much more robust. It’s been thru airline luggage handlers.
  21. I do not ever remember being successful with this bait. I grew up fishing Elephant Butte in NM and the SB just wasn’t something we use. I bought a Megabass SV3 a long time ago and it just rattled around in my kayak box. In the package. Today was miserable. Cold, foggy. Yesterday was bluebird skies and 94 deg. I just fish don’t well on days of drastic weather changes. I can’t crack the code. Today I see the SB. I open the package cursing the copious use of staple securing the thing. Put one thru my finger actually. I casted about. I was shocked how slow I could work it. It actually felt better just creeping it, with occasional jerks and letting it drop. Basically I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. Until I casted into the nastiest weeds. A bass smashed it as it fluttered down. I was like, “wait! Is that a fish?” im shocked how it works thru submerged branches. It just bumps thru. I only snagged it once. I think I’m gonna stick with it. It’s kinda fun. Tricky to cast in wind but I managed. this is a year round type of bait? Any season standout as spinnerbait time?
  22. You are blessed. My doc said sleep is the key to health and staying young. I’m useless without 8. I am lucky I can darn sleep anywhere.
  23. Beer year round when I do decide to have a drink. My liver belongs in a 90 year old man. I can’t drink much at all anymore.
