I saw the most amazing kayak balancing feat this morning.
Do it! And film it for us. I’ve seen her pedal her Hobie with her shins. She stands up and pushes the drive by undulating her legs pushing forward with her shins. a PA 14 is like small floating dock. I think I could stand on the nose. And I’m fat. Fischer is like a water nymph. A buck twenty five Max. How she gets on her kayak from shore is awesome. She pushes it off into the water and runs onboard from the nose.

Harvesting Fish for Dinner
One day I’ll eat one of my catch. I do hit some clean lakes. I’ll bleed it, slide it into a plastic bag. ( I get bags from ironically my fish monger) and slip it on ice. I don’t like the fish to soak in ice water. Just me. I don’t own a suitable ice chest yet. Nothing that fits easily on my kayak.

I finally did it, I cancelled my facebook account
It never goes away. I still get happy birthday wishes from people. They say FB sent out an announcement. I quit FB 8 years ago when a crazy stalker reached out to me. Brrrrrrr…shiver. no thanks. Your account closes, but everything you’ve done to date stays I think.

Yesterday I saw more kayaks WITH motors than without.
Agree it’s heresay at this point. I have not seen the bill myself. But that’s what he told me. He was running his motor right next to me. I could keep up easy. Hell! I might agree with you! All I can find mentioned is $49. Hmmmm

My plan for beating winter blues this year...
My good friend just moved to Minnesota. I want to visit him in the dead of winter. He ice fishes so there is that, but more importantly; I just kinda want to see how people live in our northern climates. I can’t imagine it at all. Are there fresh fruits and veggies in the stores? im Californian. I just climbed a tree wearing shorts to reach the last of my persimmon. the worst of winter (for me) are the friggen leaves. I hate cleaning up after a tree pukes it’s leaves. I just finished, and the next wave of leaves are already falling. I will kayak fish tomorrow.

Yesterday I saw more kayaks WITH motors than without.
My friend told me it cost him $400 to register his motorized kayak. Ugly. Good for two years

I saw the most amazing kayak balancing feat this morning.
I went fishing. let me say, I can stand up fine. I can cast, flip, even set the hook and fight a fish while standing. Today, I was blown away. I saw a younger guy standing and pitching for bass. No big deal. BUT! He could pedal his kayak around while standing. Same kayak as mine. HOBIE Outback. He would stand up, stick one foot in one side of his pedal drive, and work it back and forth like that. He looked like Captain Morgan! im gonna try it in the summer, when I’m wearing swim trucks and don’t have a phone in my vest pocket. I tried just putting a foot on one pedal and all the weight shifts to the side with the foot planted on deck. I almost went into the 51 deg water. My friend yells at me, “dude! That guy is in his twenties!” not sure even in my 20’s……

I love fall and winter..the fishing not so much.
Funny. I ordered tubes and all the a accoutrements a few days ago. I’ll keep at it. Today I got one bass. My friend got four, but it’s good. I enjoy a friends success very much.

how do I choose a Neko Weight?
I don’t know why I didn’t think of this. Thanks.

Thankful for the Wacky Rig
My 2021 PB was on a wacky rig. I’ve luckily honed it down to a single SENKO color. So now I only buy two colors ever. Makes life easier. I need to use the same rig but weighted into a neko and see if I improve my stats in that dept.

how do I choose a Neko Weight?
I'm still (winter) fishing. I know the bass are in deeper cover. 10 to 15 feet. I snipped a few of my screwhead shake head weights off and will use those to send a 4" senko or trick worm deeper into the depths. (for now) I do have some tiny nail weights. I imagine I could stuff TWO of them into the nose. they are pretty tiny. while I am pretty successful winging a wacky towards shallow weed lined channels, I am not that great with a Neko Rig. I have tried and tried. most times the friend next to me is screaming out, "got one!" on his Neko, while I am feeling like the least popular kid on the lake. do we like the embedded nail weights, or the kind of Neko weight that exposes some type of mushroom weight at the nose? tomorrow, I am trying the Neko (yikes), shakey head, and the venerable drop shot. I know where the submerged bushes and weeds are in 10 feet of water. sucks. I did a Tackle warehouse order last night. first thought this waking morning, was "d**n, I forgot Neko weights!!" oh HAPPY THANKSGIVING fishing friends!

Do you consider kayak fishing to be exercising?
I occasionally fish off a bass boat. It’s downright luxurious. (Rod storage does suck in the back of the boat) I actually prefer kayak fishing at this point. It’s super challenging for me. I can do a 10-mile day if needed, but I always hope it isn’t necessary. But in general, I’m immediately married to the spot I launched at. I never pack up and drive to a new spot. I don’t consider it exercise. It’s not that strenuous. I do lose weight because I’m too lazy to bring food. I’ll go 8-hours on water and a fist full of nuts. My friends bring lots of food. They are always chewing on something. ‘’by the time I get home I’m tired. But it’s a combination of the long drive, or heavy lifting. (Kayak into truck or lake). Maybe the long duration sitting position, but I do stand up. A lot. It’s not exercise. My HR goes up, but doesn’t strain. Not like mtn biking. ‘’you?

Bass Fishing for California smallmouth
I’m gonna hit that lake this spring. I have local smallies in Lake Sonoma, but they take “smallie” literally. I’ve never gotten better than a 1.5lb. They fight awesome, so the thoughts of a 5lb with shoulders is a sirens sing to me. I bet it takes my kayak for a ride. I do love the “white out” in the original photo. Haha. Showing off but redacted.

I love fall and winter..the fishing not so much.
I put my truck up and over a muddy mountain to get to a distant lake. I pay the launch fee and the lady gives me the gate lock combination. She says, “be careful, you will be alone”. She was not joking. I strained my ears and eyes looking for another person. Nobody. I had the giant lake to myself. I cinch down my PFD tighter and paddle out. I could not find the bass! I would see groups of fish down at 25 feet. I’d cast. Into the group and would pull out a hard charging pike-minnow. Very fun, but not the target fish. To be honest, I have never caught pikeminnow, so it was nice to check that off the list. the wind was predicted at 11:00am. Right on schedule. I look out at the main lake and oh-o. It was a wet ride back. My new kayak sliced thru just fine. It never got squirrelly. I’ll enjoy this winter for what it is. I’ll fish thru, but I’ll keep my expectations in check with respect to fishing.

My (very) inexpensive version of kayak Keel-Guard.
My friend wore thru his Hobie pro angler. Almost went thru. It was a soft spot for sure. So thin. It happens. He fixed it with a BerleyPro

My (very) inexpensive version of kayak Keel-Guard.
I do have a Berley Pro (looks like Kydex) keel guard glued on my older Hobie. My new one, I haven’t gotten around to ordering one. In the meantime I do this. I ran this tape on my older boat for months and it lasts maybe 20-30 outings before I peel it off and put on a fresh layer. On the back of my older kayaks by the rudder; it’s the same application that’s been there for 8 months. Pros: it cost $5.99 per roll it’s very durable and can tolerate several “hard beach landings” it peels off clean! it’s waterproof and won’t come off when wet. Cons: you will have to replace it periodically. (Honestly I think a person can wear thru a BerleyPro - thinking about peeling one off installed with marine goop gives me anxiety. Ironically this tape will not stick to the BerleyPro)) it’s not flexible so you will need to trim it to wrap around corners. as it wears, it does create a spot your fishing line can hang up on. kinda ugly. It’s plumbers pipe wrap after all. It’s blazoned with the company logo. pics.

What have you learned this fishing season?
I learned that I’m a better kayak fisherman than I thought and that there are still days that make me think I suck at catching fish. So focus on the fun-aspect. It truly is better than doing yard work.

Mouse eradication in stored boat?
Victor wood snap traps with the gooey insides of a snickers-bar for bait. I squish a gob of nougat pranuty goodness under the bait tab. Only downside is you need run the trap line all storage season. That could suck.

Sportsman warehouse
I’d Google that rod to see if it’s in their inventory. I don’t think it would be worth the drive. I have one in town and I rarely go. But they do carry my rod brands. Dobyns and Phenix.
