  1. Registration seems like no big deal to me. For me, cost and inconvenience are the bigger factors. i expecting my Hobie Outback in three weeks. My motivation is the power pole mounting points in back where I can put a Torqueedo. having said that, I’m still perfectly okay with kicking my kayak on a 12 mile days. Im pretty d**n fast in my Hobie Compass. I can do 4mph while gently sweating. 3mph is like walking on a sidewalk effort wise. the motor just seems so cool. Makes crossing bigger lake San easier decision. Can I sidebar with you about your real life experience? Love to hear more.
  2. Randy Santa to use a spinning. I think I’ll actually work the bait better with my right hand holding the rod. I’ll try it next time. thought?
  3. No skunk! I fished from 6:30 to 11:00. raining pretty hard this morning and cold. Lake is 7’ deeper easily. Fish are scattered as far as I can tell. I caught one bass, fist pumped the sky jubilantly and headed home. Haha. One and done. This is going to be a tough winter. I can tell
  4. My wife said she would like to try it before or if I sell my Hobie Compass. Hmmm. I would LOVE it if I can get my wife on a great bass bite. Springtime on Clearlake would be almost a no-brainer. She hates being cold so this season might be too late. springtime drop shot bite on in the developing weeds. Hmmm. any 100% rookie wife fishing stories?
  5. Thanks sir! You’re not helping:) im gonna go annoy the kayak salesman with my endless questions after work today. my compass lacks in tackle gear management. It all ends up at my feet. And nothing fits under the seat. Wasted unusable space.
  6. You have a kayak? Love to show you around some.
  7. It didn’t. I called ahead and was told everything was closed from storm damage.
  8. I have the Kaden version of that Dobyns. I felt the handle was too bulbous for my smaller office worker hands and I got hand fatigue. Great rod tho and I used it for shaky heads and Neds. It was good for that. I took a lot of bass with that rod. Including my PB. Dobyns really thought out their bait holder location.
  9. I was stymied yesterday. 6 hours and only one bump of my worm. NOTHING! Five guys on the lake and only one fish caught. One. The lake was 6 feet deeper easy. It was littered with storm debris. I could find fish on my FF but nothing interested them. One guy thinks the lake was flooded with food. I think that much water changed something, maybe pH or something. my friends are there today. I passed. I’m gonna let it settle down a bit. Next weekend I’ll try elsewhere. A bigger lake wher the rain filled it less percentage wise. Maybe my friends will decipher the puzzle today. your theories? It’s a tiny lake
  10. I don’t think I could outrun a gater in water in any footwear. Hopefully I just goose the boat throttle. snakes. Don’t bother me. we have great white sharks where I go for rockfish. In my vivid imagination: shark>gator >snake.
  11. Took tomorrow off. I’ll drive the 4x4 road to my secret spot to see if the fish are still willing participants to my hobby. it’s upper elevations and they had a few 36 deg mornings so the water will be cold. launching my kayak is never a problem at any water level so whatever. But it will be interesting to see if levels came up from our recent deluge. pleaeeezzzee no skunk! I’ll take a pike minnow if need be.
  12. No clue. But I want to catch a big bass on a live golden shiner. and peacock bass…..And knife fish. I’ll grab two MH baitcast and one spinning and some flip flops and go.
  13. I love me some easy eating fish! but.. it goes against my thought process. I try to utilize as much as the fish as possible. Whole fish cooking for me. we once hammered Oregon walleye. The fishing guide didn’t even know how to gill/gut a fish. My brother Took his knife and did the cleaning. I was shocked really. bu yea. Fillets are nice. I use a regular fillet knife on salmon. Bones go into soup. The head grilled Japanese style.
  14. I might upgrade. Keep my current Hobie but buy another. I test drove my friends PA12-360 and it felt big and slow. Super stable. I groan when he asks me to help drag his boat. not sure I want one. but the Outback! Fast , not too heavy. Stable. Ocean ready. Big upgrade from my current Compass. I can put a motor on the back of an Outback easy. I’ll still use my compass at the locations with long boat drags but an extra kayak for a “friend-loaner “ feels like a good idea. anyone with more than one kayak? Is it a pain?
  15. ^^hence the focus on “friendly”. I’d loose a Dairy Queen Oreo blizzard. Love love this story. Love love this story.
  16. My brother and I growing up would always say , “ first fish, most fish, biggest fish”. it was a triple category bet. Loser usually had to pay for the DQ blizzard or something. (Best out of three) Now my friends and I keep silent. Not even a friendly wager for bragging rights. We talk trash tho. you? Another group has an annual bet. Most keeper Fish at the end of the year. Photo record tracking. I’m told them no thanks. I’m not counting numbers for a year. they have a buy in, winner takes all.
  17. I kinda love the new technology. As a kayak fisherman I can’t jam around a lake trying different spots to find fish. It would be nice to peek around my area of limited travel. Having said that, I’ve had some great fishing days with a regular FF. I like the basic depth info info it provides. I catch one, I can note the depth and look for other areas that are similar. I love casting into the unknown. The trepidation and anxiety of maybe getting bit. I don’t think I want to see it coming. maybe someday. But I’ll put a motor on my kayak before I go with updated FF. now if a buddy would get it and I can peek over his should occasionally. That would be awesome.
  18. It’s my confidence worm. By a mile.
  19. I’m using high-vis suffix 15lb. With a 8lb sunline leader. i suck at knots and my vision blows. I put on my glasses and get it done. The Alberto knot is so easy. Ive graduated to the FG knot, built in my kayak I still tie the Alberto because it’s so simple. drop shot with braid is awesome. I can feel the tiny ticks easy.
  20. I wasn’t that great at school. When I finally landed in college the final time I didn’t skip a thing. I focused on school and got it done. I had to go back a “final“ time when I begged the Dean to give me another shot. It was because I skipped school and fooled around. there’s time to have fun later. Best move I made was to go back and finish.
  21. Longer pauses. Change up the velocity of the jerk. So much fun. I get hit mostly on the pause.
  22. I’ll pass. my fish destroy the wacky rig. That fragile inurig would come apart completely I imagine. I’ll try the chicken rig Saturday. Looks like an doable rig sitting in a kayak.
  23. Tough to find!! I think my local fish would love them. you all know a secret source o can PM me?
