  1. if I was smart, I would start a list. list tackle I need to buy, and when I get to a threshold, say $50 buy it. but nope. I buy when needed and add stuff to get the the $50. not good.
  2. I'm going to make some for my wife. probably take $200 of ingredients that I dont have. maybe I will make her Dos Mares soup. hahahha. (two seas soup)
  3. EUREKA!! I had to scroll back and back to find the good news everyone is excited about. add me to the list to feel joy for you bud!!
  4. pro/cons? my friend installed one on his boat. first time seeing one actually was his boat. grew up around my brother's boat and we had the traditional hand thing, very similar to the one on the Starship Enterprise (from what I can tell - I joke!) the hot shoe doesn't negate the need for a cut off switch lanyard, right? (friend still clips his) and I remember difficulties maintaining steady gas foot pressure in a bumpy 4x4, it has to be similar in rough waters no? he has never let me pilot his boat. just asking to learn. I vaguely remember Randy B, poo-pooing the hot shoe, but I dont watch his videos.
  5. I always fish in black boxer briefs. If I drown at least my body will appear stylish.
  6. Haha. My doctor said a pop tart isn’t for me. Last time I ate one was on top of a mountain after hiking to the top to look for an elk. It was delicious and perfect for my caloric deficit. I’m not deficient often anymore.
  7. I dont love three dudes in a bass boat. we brushed each other all three ways with wild backcasts.. a few times. but we hit the California Delta yesterday. we met up at noon. hit a bad tide, during a rain storm, and after a really big rain storm. the conditions were BAD! bass boats were coming in, grumbling about "no bites". an acquaintance held up his hand with his fingers looped in a "zero" indicating he skunked as well. I got the first bite!!! a two pounder after I said to my friends, "did you see that cast? there has to be a....." overall, we got 7 fish. a 5.5 toad that my bud punched up from under the nastiest weed patch I've seen. the best part? we laughed all afternoon. our faces were sore from laughing. best time ever...we hit up some 7-Mares soup for dinner after a scary darkness boat run...and I crawled into bed at 11. great day...fishing was meh. laughs were keepers all day long. hahahah. nobody on board skunked!! the Delta is going to be fire this year..I just feel it.
  8. great responses. all over the board. I usually drive 1-1.5 hours, and sometimes 2.5 hours to get to my spots. I cant eat that early. kinda nauseous if I eat @ 3:00am. so..I bring a hot breakfast in a food thermos-like cup. (a STANLEY!) and I eat it lakeside. it can be anything. oatmeal -> steamed rice with leftovers on top. then off to the water.. lite lunch out on the water.
  9. @Sethshaun my Hobie doesn’t have seat risers. The kit I’ve seen raises it too high for me. I would be able to stand up easy tho. Like sitting on a sidewalk curb. but it’s too high. I think it would diminish the stability I adore.
  10. straight Genius. when I fish with my bass boat bud, I bring the same. mostly because he is eating meat, and gets annoyed I bring a rice thing for him. hahaha my friend handed me a protien drink last week. it was kinda nice. he bought them from Costco I think. I have bad memories of them. I was a tiny kid and had to police my dad and make him drink them when he was getting his butt kicked by cancer and chemo. not sure I will ever go and buy my own stash. "mom, he not drinking it!!"
  11. I’m in a kayak so I don’t bring much. maybe a thermos full of black bean salad, a single sandwich. Lately I’ve been making Onigiri. A Japanese rice ball flavored with Furikaki. A seaweed seasoning. you all. ? oh. Lots of water in a bladder. About 2.5L
  12. That banjo string sound of fishing line getting super tight when a big bass and myself think differently on where and if we should meet. ziiinnnnngggg!
  13. I recently fished Shasta. I got a hotel. I chose the room and parked outside my window and I left the shades up. With the room dark, I’m unseen ( I hope). But I could hear and listen for trouble. I didn’t sleep much. My kayak was cable locked.
  14. I think I would hit the reset button. send out a polite letter or email rescinding permission. I had permission on a ranch growing up to chase ducks and deer in El Paso. this ranch had ponds that pulled in ducks. we had to get an annual renewal. one year, we were denied. (the reset button). never got it again. we were not mad. sad? a bit. but I will cherish the memories and fun we had...and be grateful we had permission at all. do an annual thing!!!
  15. I'll help. mostly on the OUTBACK stuff. but I have swapped boats with a bud and I have some PA time under my butt. PA12 with the 360 degree pedal drive. PA 12/14: All looks, or legit awesome on the water? LEGIT on the water. super stable. but my bud on the PA12 is the only person I have seen flip out on the water. hahah.. the boat is a tug. super heavy, taking in and out of a truck is tiresome. he went full trailer, but his wife prints money. due to the weight, he has a better time in wind. he stands up like he does from a lawn chair. in his boat, I can face the sides and tick over the edge. I bet I could stand on the seat. Outback: Can you stand up 25 times a day from that low seat without killing your knees? I CAN and do easily. my moves take just a bit more effort. with my Outback seat in the highest setting, I can almost pop up. but I have to help myself. I either reach back and push off the seat back (seamless move) or reach in front grab a pedal for a quick jerk to get my body moving up. either way, I look kickass. my bud WALKER can stand and put one foot into a pedal drive and kick it to move slowly while he is standing and casting. Circ du Soleil level stuff. I stand all the time to fish. to pee, I face forward and aim my junk to the side and pee off the edge. the big bonus, I can flip my kayak back right side up and climb in. that aint happening in a PA. not by me. Casting: How’s it from the seated position on either a: I sucked at the beginning casting. now I am rockstar. my backhands and forward cast all tailored to the kayak sitting position. I get into a bass boat and I suck in the morning until I recalibrate. my backhand is awesome at avoiding the shallow water anchors in my friends boat. in my Outback, I have gotten to love my long distance casts. I can "send it" and the fish dont even see me or know I am there. my accuracy is sometimes fire. Boat control: It’s windy here a lot—how do they handle? wind sucks. no getting around it. my friend PA12 handles it better cuz of weight. he also has spot lock. my outback is made for the ocean, so wind waves while scary at times...I dont seem in any danger. bottom line. if I had to buy again, I would still get the outback. it is faster. with pedals only, I can hit 5mph and stay with my friends PA12 on his motor. at 3 mph, I can go forever. not even get winded. I put a motor on the back of mine but I dont use it always. I am already so nimble. I move mine in my truck bed. the lighter wieght is awesome. still portly, but I can manage. I dont have the rod storage, so I use a box out back. I sit lower to the water, and I am way better in rivers. I can also launch dang near anywhere. my other friend just bought an OUTBACK and now I have someone to fish this one spot where it will take two people to lift the boats over a fence. hahaha.. my PA12 bud cant even come!! I have lowered my outback off steep banks and fished mysterious waters.
  16. not me. but my wife. she was in commercial finance. now she is a registered nurse. she buckled down and took charge. we managed on my income the duration and ended up with Zero loans to pay off. got sketch for while, but we managed. she broke the situation into "steps/hurdles" and tackled them sequentially and kept on going. going back to school to get some prerequisite courses out of the way, getting into nursing school, etc. I see age biases now in industry. know that going in.
  17. there is that. yea. that stands my arm hairs straight up.
  18. I am lukewarm on the idea. but I have a friend rabid to go, and I have permission on private land. looks like I will buy a tag and go. I would rather fish, I think. it would be cool to get him on his second bird ever. I got him his first. March 29 opener. I do however have some recipes in mind. hahahha
  19. curious. Texoma Striper favor that bait, especially in Bone color. discontinued. anyone have a local Walmart with a missing box they just found ?
  20. it would have to be a letter to mono. to braid, you email that message
  21. I'm relatively disciplined. get a new reel, then need a rod for that reel. it can get ugly.
  22. if you go with a rear elec motor: I see you noted torqueedo. I would opt for the Newport Vessels version. you can choose your battery on your own. having said that, that company came out with a GENIUS battery that is flat like a briefcase. it can sit underneath most kayak seats, which is really where you want the weight IMHO. it is brilliant and I hope they had the best patent attorneys to let them milk it for the years they can. having said that. I still only use my motor on the really big lakes. my Hobie is so nimble without that extra weight of the battery and motor, I just reserve the PIA to the giant lakes. Clearlake, and the Delta mostly. I'll take on Berryessa and Shasta with leg power. I dont travel that far to find fish at those lakes.
  23. daily regular stuff? i rarely take escalators or elevators. i just go for the stairs every chance i get. i also sit on the floor. i practice getting up off the floor without the use of my hand/arms. (lots of people cant do this). i squat any chance i get. i just spooled a new Zillion working from a squat. i ALWAYS park at the furthest parking spot available. i relish the fact that i am no where near the handicap parking spaces, and enjoy the days until i need that d**n placard. (healthy people that poach those spaces by using a fake placard are just asking for the wrong type of karma -slapback). good stuff. no pedastal seats for me and my buds as well. i should get a stand up desk setup at work.
