  1. I have been very, very pleased with mine. It is every bit on par with Bantams and Metaniums. I am not sure which is a direct competitor but they’re all great. Sometimes it nice to not be too brand loyal, so you can enjoy them all!
  2. I do prefer my Metaniums and 21 Zillion but it is still a great reel for me. I didn’t find the casting to be as bad as many say. I am also not usually going for maximum distance on most casts.
  3. Weight didn’t bother me either. For me, sometimes when things get too light they can begin to feel cheap. That is not the case with the 18 Bantam. Hilt like a tank is a great description.
  4. I didn’t check weight. Has the 22 model shed much weight. The main complaint I heard about the 18 was how portly it is.
  5. June Bug is one of my most go to colors. Not sure if it catches more fish but the purple catches my attention!
  6. Same for me… I actually placed so orders. The first order, the color was out of stock. Got an email from CS asking if I wanted to change colors or cancel order. 18 for $28 ($10 flat rate shipping). Second order arrived today. Enough FB jigs in 3/4 oz. To hold me for a long, long time.
  7. I saw that too… I am a big fan of the current model. Curious how much difference the improvements/upgrades will make. I need another combo like I need to get hit by a bus! But that Bantam and ExPride did catch my eye! And don’t get me started on the new Stella. Not sure why I have the infatuation I do for spinning reels but something about watching all those parts spinning and moving in precision is almost hypnotic to me! https://www.google.com/search?q=shimano+stella+fk+2022&client=safari&hl=en-us&ei=YBjrYYqWOY-3qtsP5t-hiAE&oq=shimano+stella+fk&gs_lcp=ChNtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1zZXJwEAEYATIFCAAQxAIyBQgAEMQCMgUIIRCgAToCCCk6BwgAEEcQsAM6BQgAEJECOggIABCxAxCRAjoFCAAQgAQ6DgguELEDEMcBENEDEJECOgsIABCxAxCDARCRAjoICAAQgAQQsQM6CAgAELEDEIMBOgsIABCABBCxAxCDAUoECEEYAFCfCFi3MWDwQ2gCcAJ4AIABmQSIAcIbkgEMMC4xMS4xLjEuMi4xmAEAoAEBwAEB&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-serp#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:38255241,vid:G1r1gZo57Ig,st:0
  8. I’ll admit, I am a sucker for that shade of Forest/British Racing green. Hard to see in the pics but I bet the colors look great in person.
  9. I love to fly fish as well and have used many number of weight rods to fish my waters. My go to would be my 7 wt. for bass but an 8 works great too. In reality an 8wt. Isn’t all that different from a 9wt. That said, I fish bass much more with conventional tackle. If I were you, unless you just had to, I would hold onto your 9 wt. The cheapest fly rod is the one you already have. Unless you are targeting bream, a 9 wt. will be useful. I live in Louisiana so my tackle could theoretically catch anything from panfish, to large bass, to inshore redfish, trout, etc. I find it helpful down here to have a decent selection. Storage usually isn’t an issue with fly tackle compared to conventional
  10. Thanks once again! You’ve been beyond helpful!
  11. The Certate comes in this model with a double handle. Does anyone know if Daiwa sells this handle In the aftermarket? Can it be sourced from an authorized Daiwa dealer?
  12. Sounds like you need two rods. One for your house and one for your In-laws! Problem solved.
  13. Thanks… very helpful.
  14. Another quick question. Are all knobs compatible with this shaft? Not sure if the length on the knobs is a standard or not. Thanks!
  15. Thanks for the response and info. The original knob is a t type knob so I’d need to replace both with something new.
  16. Let me start by admitting this question comes from a place of vanity. I have a Certate 3000 that I was considering dressing up, just cause. I was thinking a new, nice double paddle handle and a reel stand/balancer. Here’s my question - following the link below, am I correct in understanding that this particular handle does not come with knobs? Also, is is compatible with the new model Certate? I am having trouble following the translated English. I figured you guys may have experience. Thanks in advance. https://www.hedgehog-studio.co.jp/phone/product/3892
  17. No help with the noise but one thing is for sure. Your lake is prettier than my lake!
  18. Is the main complaint about recoil guides trying to pass leader knots through them? People seem to either love or hate them. Curious to know what the biggest complaint(s) is/are. I have a couple of rods with them and don’t find them to be a negatives
  19. I am wondering is anyone has real world experience between these rods in the exact same action. Do they fish differently in any specific ways or are the only differences between the cosmetic finish and choice of components? I guess the same question would apply to any two of the same models of these lines, I am just looking specifically at the 844c MBR.
  20. I have been eyeing that same combo. What do you find yourself using it for the most?
  21. We gave my brother a very similar combo when he got married close to 20 years ago. As others have stated there probably isn’t huge value but I bet it would give you years of good service. My vote would to get it cleaned/lubed/lined and fish it. Or find a kid or buddy who wants to get into fishing and pass it along
  22. I think your list of characteristics hits the idea of workhorse for me. I am sure this is what you mean by durability but when I think about a “workhorse” anything, I think of something that a buddy can borrow and I won’t be in the dumps if it returns with a new nick or scratch, kind of like a great, broken in, truck. It just adds character to the whole. Just another story to add to the rich history of that workhorse item that was taken everything you have thrown at it and just keep doing it’s duty!
  23. Only problem is your reel handles seem to be on the wrong side!! sweet collection! what’s the combo on the left?
  24. Well… if I could only have one in the criteria you set, I would shoot for the moon with a Conquest 844 MBR or NRX+ 873 CRR, and either the Bantam or Metanium MGL in a 7 speed - but the Zillion and Steez’s sure are great too. But alas your game, your rules! As others have stated the Bantams and Metaniums are very similar reels and oh so nice. I need to shed a few reels at the moment or I would have already sent JB a PM asking about his Bantams. In an ideal world, I would like to trim everything down to 6 casting and 3 spinning combos. That would still be more than I would need but who lives in an ideal world anyway? I do appreciate the spartan approach you’re taking here and your resolve to stick to your plan. My curiosity always gets the best of me.
