NRX 852s Jwr vs NRX 872s jwr for bank fishing smallmouth?
I don’t think you’ll get more sensitive than the NRX+ especially the JWR. I am sure other have their favorites but NRX + is super sensitive. It’s a great rod. Crazy light. Mine is paired with a ‘19 Certate and is about perfect. For me spinning tackle is mostly, Senkos, wacky rigs, ball head swim baits, Ned’s, flukes. Both the 852 or 872 would be great at those. If you fishing deeper water the length of the 872 may be an advantage. My ponds rarely get deeper than 10-15 feet. None of my fishing is in 40 feet of water. All that factors in. Are both rods in stock now? Just an fyi… I have had good luck asking about a discount on the NRX rods. Shops seems to be willing to knock 15-20% off pretty quick.

NRX 852s Jwr vs NRX 872s jwr for bank fishing smallmouth?
Admittedly I have not tried the 872 but I do have the 852 NRX plus and it is no slouch in the casting dept. Casting distance isn’t the main priority for me in a rod but the 852 cast as long as I want or need. Doubtful you’d be disappointed with either. I am hoping to have both semi-soon.

What makes the 844c mbr great for topwater?
That would be my guess too plus the 4 power has enough backbone to drive in hooks, say on a frog, at distance. I have an 844 MBR and see what he is saying. The MBR action makes for a very versatile rod.

Favorite fly setup for bass
That’s part of the joy of trying different options out. The fly line, leader, and tippet can be plenty strong no matter the rod. If it can stop a running 7# redfish, it’ll stop a bass. But if I am fishing nasty timber I probably am not throwing a fly rod. Sure is fun to fight them on the ol’ long rods though.

Favorite fly setup for bass
I have a buddy who site fishes redfish with a 4wt. For me, the choice of rod and line is about the fly I am throwing, not the size of the fish, most of the time.

Favorite fly setup for bass
Same here. If I am fishing for bass it is usually a beefy fly so 9’ 7wt or 9’ 8wt. But when you have the 3/4wt and a small popper, you never know what can happen. I have had more than one small gill come out of the water on a hook set only to be crushed by a LM one it way to the bank. Never landed the LM though.

MH Spinning Rod Question
I have tried but never had much interest. I am fan of SC but it feels like they don’t get the same interest in the used market.

MH Spinning Rod Question
I was thinking about picking up some tungsten finesse jigs to see how they fish in this set up.

Fast action by SC’s standards!

MH Spinning Rod Question
I have a nice 7’ MH SC Legend Elite spinning rod that I find myself leaving behind. It gets overlooked mostly because at MH I tend reach for a casting set up instead. My question is what would you use this rod for and why? Are there some great applications for this rod that I am missing?

Fluke Set-Up
Yeah… that’s fair. It isn’t exactly a combo specific rig. Maybe ideal set up is better than dream set up.

Fluke Set-Up
I go back and forth between casting and spinning. And between a M and MH. Curious what the folks here use.

Fluke Set-Up
If you were building a dream fluke rig, what would it be and why?

Loomis 844C vs 904C
From a kayak, I think the 844 would be the way to go. It is a very versatile rod that does many things well.

Oh no! I went and tried on Bajio Sunglasses.
No real world experience but they will be my next pair. I love my Smiths but these have my curiosity peaked. As I understand understand it, the company was started by the same folks who started Costa Del Mar.

I’m jonesing for a new rig for no good reason…
I didn’t want a new Calcutta Conquest 100 until now!!!

Favorite shimano baitcaster?
My favorite is the 20 Met MGL but for the money it is hard to beat the Curado 70 MGL. I haven’t fished the Curado 150 MGL but I bet it’s great too!

Tips For Weightless Flukes
I’ll throw them on either a M spinning outfit or MHF baitcaster. Where I fish, a weightless and weedless fluke will get bit almost any time. It may not be the best choice for a given day. It it is hardly ever a bad choice. Any decent BCer set up correctly should be able to throw a fluke with a 3/0 or 4/0 hook without problem. Senkos and Fluke are my two most used soft plastics. As to when to use them, for me it is anytime except when the fish are hugging bottom, but I rarely fish water deeper than 12-15 feet.

What got you "started" on your favorite brands? Nostalgic story time
I’m a roadie too (& MTBer) and while Campy has a certain refined, historic quality to it, it is hard to beat the SRAM ETap group on the Moots! Having ridden top offering from all three major companies, they’re all great now, BUT if I were to do a dream build it would probably be Campy Super Record 12. The problem for me is there aren’t any good Campy mechanics in my area. As for fishing, I did not grow up fishing a ton as a kid. When I finally got into fishing late in college there where two things that gripped my wishful attention. For conventional tackle it was the Shimano Curado reel. I didn’t know what the higher end offerings were then and the green on those Curado reels were just perfect to me. That was back when spending that amount of money on a reel seemed impossible to me. My wife wishes I still felt that way now!!! For fly tackle, it was Orvis. Decades later I still have a soft spot for Orvis. Summer of ‘19 we took a family vacation up to and around the Northeast. A trip to Manchester,VT to visit the Orvis mothership was my only most do. I could have easily spent all 10 days hanging in and around Manchester, fishing and giving Orvis all my money!

Disassembling a rod to ship.
Just cut the lures off. As stated above the reels will come off the rod by loosening the lock nut. I would suggest shipping the reels in a separate box. Rods in a tube as instructed above. If you don’t have the original boxes for the reels, wrap those in bubble wrap too, then box them up.
