Major Craft Days
I'm interested in the Major Craft Days 69ML 1 piece spinning. Does anyone have any experience with this particular rod or have any Days rods they can elaborate on. I have other Major Craft rods (Nanoace & MS 1) and love them. I may just bite the bullet and order it from digitaka without handling it based on my positive experiences with Major Craft. Any input is appreciated.

Monkey wants a new spinning reel
Yep, I'm going to wait on the Vanquish. Thanks.
-
which reel would you buy and why
Both excellent choices, I prefer the ergonomics of the Metanium(personal preference) just feels better for the way I grip the reel.

Monkey wants a new spinning reel
I like Daiwa casting reels, I just don't seem to be into their spinning stuff, when it comes to spinning I'm a Shimano fanboy. The monkey has been constantly checking digitaka to see if they are in stock.

Second Trip of 2023
Got out on a lake in southern NY for the first time in a long time. Water temps were 50-55, it seems like we missed the jerkbait bite this year. The bodies of water I fish do not allow any type of motors , so we row around looking for fish, wind forecast was low winds, weatherman was wrong , winds were blowing at around 10-15 mph at certain points of the day. The fish seemed to like jigs, blades and senkos. Caught around 30 bass,2 trout and a super slimy pickerel over 7 hours of fishing. Most fish looked like this... here are the better fish of the day,

Monkey wants a new spinning reel
So the monkey is itching for a new spinning reel(he doesn't need one), he has an Excsence C3000MHG, it's his favorite, he loves it for neko and ned rigs. He is debating between the new Vanquish C3000XG or saving a couple of bucks and getting a Twin Power C3000XG. Reel will be used for senkos, neko, neds,in line spinners, 3.3 swimbaits, lures would wiegh 1/2oz max. Shimano just came out with the Exsence XR, I would be open to it but I am not sure if its a Vanford in disguise. Which one should he get?

Revo 5 Winch unboxing review
Thanks for the review. I was able to pick up the gen 5 winch 25% off, so I did. The deep cranking bite wont arrive in NY until sometime in June so I haven’t used it yet. I'm with you on the ergonomics, it's definitely more comfortable to grip than previous generations, the line finger rubbing could be problematic based on the individual anglers grip style. I am looking forward to the brake system, I shook the reel and thought something was loose, it was the moving pins of the brakes. This is a good thread, hopefully more folks will have some input. Thanks again.

Best Suspending Jerkbait recommendations?
Duo Realis 120SP is a straight up winner, honorable mention goes to the lucky craft pointer 78/100SP.

These scissors are awesome, some walmarts carry them as well. If you haven't tried them do yourself a favor and pick up a pair or three.

Abu Garcia Revo Gen 5?
I picked up the gen 5 revo winch 25% off, I wouldn't pay full price for it. Used it a few times, so far it's a good cranking reel, I think the biggest difference from gen 4 is the ergonomics, it's definitely more comfortable to palm for all day cranking. I have a few other cranking reels such as the Bantam PG and the Steez A crazy cranker, both are significantly better reels imo, but at a 25% discount the gen 5 winch is worth considering. If no discount is available, I would look to Shimano or Daiwa.

The 50 plus club
I never post online because I'm not dealing with shipping rods,it's bad enough I recieve them broken/damaged when I order them. I have a few local guys who I usually contact letting them know I'm selling items and so far everytime they get sold. I'm losing money hand over fist, but I do enjoy the trying new gear more than the loss of the money, not sure how sustainable that will be moving forward, but again it's a disease I do not seek treatment for.

The 50 plus club
In my lifetime I would of easily broken the 100 mark. I currently have about 30-40 rods on hand, but I have probably sold around 100 in my life. The ones I regret purchasing, I sell quickly after purchase, I often offer them in bulk, say 5 rods for 500 but some of them were $300 brand new. I am starting to have this same problem with reels as well. It's a disease for which I don't seek any treatment for.

Glass/Composite Rod purchase
Like casts_by_fly said a lot of it is based on "personal preference" I have purchased a few different brands of glass and composite rods, I sold every single one of them after giving them multiple weeks/months worth of time on the water with a variety of reel and line combinations. Glass/composite just feels dull to me, I'm with the graphite cranking folks, a good graphite cranking rod just feels right to me. For the lures you are describing a M action graphite rod should be fine. The Dobyns Sierra series has a slower taper, the M or MH may be worthy of consideration. If you get into the deep cranking, see if you can get out with some guys that have both the graphite deep cranking rods and the glass/composite deep cranking rods, trying them out and getting a feel for them should be able to point you in the right direction.

Got a line question...what line do you crank with?
This may be one of the ultimate rabbit hole questions. Some of the lakes I fish have a very specific crankbait bite, i.e. when fishing crankbaits that run 15+ the bites are often when the bait hits the bottom, there needs to be some type of contact to get the strike, for this type of bite I really like Seagaur Abraz X 10 or 12lb, if I'm not planning to constantly crash the bottom I like 10 or 12lb sunline assassin. I've tried cranking with mono and copolymer and didn't care for it. If I can't do all flouro, I rather do braid with a long copolymer leader as an alternative to flouro, but for deep cranking flouro is my first choice. There really is no right answer, it's what you're like.

Revo Winch Gen 5
Anyone use this reel yet? What are your thoughts/opinions? I am thinking about picking one up for cranking, the old winch was very uncomfortable for my grip, but this new body/frame looks more ergonomic. Any input is appreciated. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Abu_Garcia_Revo_Winch_LP_Casting_Reels/descpage-RWINSC.html

Dobyns Sierra Cork Treatment ..Yes or No?
From my experiences with U40, one treatment doesn't require any additional maintenance as long you take care of your stuff. I do alot of deep cranking in the summer months, when cranking I have sweaty palms, and I have had issues with the cork degradation on a few of my Dobyns rods where I had to sand off the original coat , use wood glue to fill the pits and apply a new coat, I haven't had any further issues. I have noticed that my friends who did not seal their Dobyns rods in particular , have had major cork pitting issues. I think Dobyns is aware of the issue because they are currently running a customer test program on new handle materials, it seems like they are looking to get away from cork. I believe they stated on their website that cork degradation has been an issue for them so they are looking for an alternative material. To answer you question, old cork can be cleaned, sand it down, apply wood filler/glue to the pits and holes, sand down again , and apply a new coat of U40.

3.3 Keitech jig head
I use these with my Keitechs, they come in a wide variety of hook size and weight combination. I primarily use the 1/4oz. When going after smallmouth, I go with 2/0. If I am chasing largemouth, I use a 3/0. I find they pair well with soft swimbaits. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Berkley_Fusion19_Swimbait_Jig_Heads_3pk/descpage-FNSW.html
