  1. Got this bass this morning. Was killing it 20+ bass and this was biggest. Other biggest was 20.50 inch and many many 18-20 inch. So I did not bring a scale only a measure. This fish is 22.50 inch long. I did not even think they got this big here. It was unreal to me to catch this fish!! So 22.50 inch can you figure how much he weights?
  2. I always start with top water like frog or poppers or twitching floating minnows strike king sexy dog.
  3. Oh man yeah thats right a spinner bait! I had a bunch with me too but it didnt cross my mind. I never caught one on a spinner bait but been buying them most are still in package at the bottom of my tackle box. Hopefully I get back there soon and get to try this out.
  4. Place I fish at has tons of weeds all along shoreline. Right at the weed line and for 10-20feet I see blue gills popping all over going nuts . I figures that the bass are hunting them so I threw my rapala minnow and pulled it through and got a nice 14inch bass. After that I kept trying all over where the blue gills were popping but I got nothing but blue gills. I tried jigs to get under and they didnt get any blue gills but the bass would not bite them either. The floor in these spots is all deep weeds too that come up high so its hard to fish there anyway. Probably 10-15 feet deep with thick weeds coming up maybe 5 feet of clean water but some spots where weeds come almost to surface. What is a good way to fish this situation?
  5. Yes I was there yesterday. I got there around 6am and fished until 2pm. I got a lot of bass one really small one then the rest were 12-18 inch bass. Got one on a original floating rapala in the open water by weed line the rest were in the green muck with a frog. The blue gills were popping all over the open water I imagine there were getting chased by bass but I got too many blue gills trying to get to the bass on my lures. Even got 2 blue gills at the same time once. It was a good day overall and weather was perfect.
  6. Yeah cool I keep almost going to cossayuna but always end up going to carters because I know carters is going to be good so I cant take a chance! I have almost paddled to cossayuna from carters before without knowing they are connected by the river until after I looked on google map online. I dont know if you can actually do it but I went pretty far catching bass the whole way. What else I like about carters is I never once got a pickerel or pike. Just bass and sometimes a blue gill or crappie. So many of my good places to fish are all catching nothing but pickerels now.
  7. Really a great place for any day but anyone knows with kayak wind can ruin the fishing. This spot has tone of islands of vegetation that no matter what the wind is you can easily get pinned to a spot to fish good from. Full of bass too these pictures are from last week or so and smallest bass was 14 inch biggest was 19 inch. All caught on top water frog type lure "SLAYER RATZ JR". Place is called Carters Pond in Greenwich, NY. Dont tell too many people though because I been there a bunch this summer and only ever seen 1 other person he was on kayak and a kid fishing from shore.
  8. I know people who cant even get video game computers shipped to California anymore. I try my best to not start politics but California must be run by insane people and people living there need to speak up if they are not agree with these things or else everything will be taken from them.
  9. I know its only if you have a crappy car like me but this is my solution. I drilled my roof and installed 4 U-bolts as my "roof rack". I didnt want to spend money so I think between the U-bolts and washers/nuts I paid around 10 dollars. I got sick of running the straps through the inside of the car and having rain get in. I keep the kayak on my roof until lakes freeze because its a pain to get it in my yard and I fish at least once a week. Dont see any difference in gas mileage running it on top all the time.
  10. I found a fishing spot on a dirt road along the bank but there is weeds. I tried frogs but I dont think the fish can notice it. Is there any way to fish this weeds?
  11. I got the Rage Toads but all they had was 4/0 EWG offset. Think it will work still?
  12. I was fishing and my kayak was slowly being blown towards shore and I bumped a log and looked over and saw these snakes. I never been so afraid in my life.
  13. I found a lure at walmart KVD perch pad. Its like a frog but shaped more like a fish and has a popper type mouth. I bought it for around 8 bucks. Anyone ever use this?
  14. Opposite for me here. My favorite bank fishing spot is so high there is no bank to walk right now its all the way up to the thick woods and no boats allowed here so kayak is no good.
  15. I have a 7 feet heavy rod I got but when I was learning bait cast reel I was terrible with it and stuck it on the zebco because it was easier to cast for me. I think now though i can try the heavy rod and do better. Tuesday I will go out with my heavy rod, soft boiled frogs with sharpened hooks and report back if I get the fish this time. Thanks for the tips everyone.
  16. I use 2 walmart ozark trial brand green and brown, a booyah frog and a regular scum frog. I caught most on a booyah frog followed by the walmart frog brown. I have not thrown the scum much as its pretty big so im scared the fish wont take it. I use a apu garcia black max reel with 50 pound suffix 832 my rod is a Zebco 33 rod my old zebco reel came on. Lots of good tips here and I did not know the rod might be an issue as my rod seems fine to me. The softness of the frog makes sense to me so i boiled them in water today and they all came out VERY soft. I got the boil tip from here on another subject of someone wanting to soft their plastics. It worked like a charm and cant wait to throw the frogs now that they are softer. Is my rod an issue if so what kind of rod is good? Should it be stiff or not?
  17. I might be setting too early on some. But some I feel like I hooked him and hes pulling hard and still will come off. I had a huge one pulling my kayak but then he still got off. I was mad because I know that one was the biggest bass I ever had on my line. I saw his tail and it was like a whale.
  18. Seems every place I fish is a place where im using frog most of the time as weeds all over top of water or just inches below so everything else hangs up. I use the frog but I miss SO MANY FISH. Its such a bad thing to miss all the fish. So is there a bait with weedless characteristics of the frog but has better hooking? or a REALLY good frog? I use weightless fluke too but hook set not much better and flukes dont last too long until you need to replace. Fish were hitting frogs all day today but I only landed one!
  19. The 98 acre lake I do most fishing in was great up until 2 weeks ago. I was catching nice bass every trip. Last 3 times nothing but pickerels. Some BIG ones too. The bass were up shallow around weeds along shore but now in those spots I only get pickerels. Did they eat the bass or did the bass move away from there?
  20. Had my BEST day of the year for large mouths and there were carp wrestling and splashing all over the place. Small 50 acre lake like 5 feet of water and weeds over 80% of water. Had to use frogs because weeds.
  21. Couple months ago I put flouro line on my reel. 8 pound test field and stream brand line. It was great and I got tons of fish on it. Last time out it kept breaking off! I gave up on it and used other rod to fish. Seems like it got brittle or something. Does fluoro only last so long? I got Seaguar 10 pound on another spin reel I did the same time but it was not used to much and seems fine still. Is it bad to store flouro reels in the hot car?
  22. I got snagged in a over hanging bush and jerked it out and it flew into my knee. A Rapala treble hook. One of the legs of the hook went in deep. I was freaking out. I carefully removed the hook from the split ring and put on a new hook and went back to fishing. But it bothered me to have the hook inside me so I tried to remove it but it was STUCK tight. I had no medical supplies with me at all. After a while I figuered out to kind of push it and pull so the barbed part would be in a way to pull it out. I learned to carry a medical first aide kit with me and never wear shorts anymore fishing. Probably never hear short sleeves either. Honestly it sucked so much to get the hook in my leg be careful!!
  23. Nobody wants to work. They made it way to easy to sit at home and get paid to do nothing. Its a great opportunity for those few modern young people to get a foot in the door someplace. Been at my job for 20 years and happy but all the sign bonuses, benefits and huge starting wages almost got me looking into a new job. Luckily a job opened up in another department for 3 dollars more an hour. If I get that I will stay nd keep my sonority with the company. The guy I would be replacing got an insane deal of a job. Making 25 an hour as a high school drop out just because places are desperate for anyone who will show up to work they do on job training too anyone willing. I keep telling everyone this is a once in a lifetime situation where the worker has leverage over the employers and jump on it now to get a foot in the door with a high wage. Once the free money dries up and the market is flooded with people needing work its going to be tough again for workers.
  24. I used a method today that worked good. I tossed a rapala floating minnow by shore and when the gills started going after it I would twitch it more and a few inches then start slow reel in and BOOM a bass would take it. I think the bass just wanted to steal what the blue gill was after. It worked good until I lost one when I HUGE bass took it and dove under the kayak and bent my rod so much its a miracle it did not break but my line broke first and lost lure and fish. Would have been my biggest bass ever. Then I lost my other floating rapala when a huge pike did the same thing except he just bit it off. No more rapala floating minnows now so I need more.
