What kind is these snakes?

Featured Replies

I was fishing and my kayak was slowly being blown towards shore and I bumped a log and looked over and saw these snakes. I never been so afraid in my life.

Forget where you're located, but it looks pretty close to an Eastern Milksnake...pretty harmless, they're constrictors (like an anaconda but max of 4' in length). Corners of it's main range are Maine, Ontario, Alabama and North Carolina - though some outliers may exist.

They're kept as pets by a lot of people, and they're pretty docile unless cornered.

Fight or Flight reflex, pal. When you're shocked by something that looks scary, it can appear bigger...just sayin'

Ahh that explains a lot. And I’ll leave it at that cause the other half knows the combo to the safe?

Brown water snakes., and if they’re doing what it looks like they’re doing, yer pretty safe.

Brown water snakes are common in Florida.  I've seen some huge ones.  Many people believe all water snakes are water moccasins and kill them on sight.  Only six of Florida's forty four snake species are venomous.  Most snakes you encounter are most likely to be non-venomous.  The best course of action is to leave all snakes alone, watch where you walk and sit and don't clean fish in the water.

Looks like "common water snakes" doing the Ooby Dooby.

The snakes you show in your picture appear to be water snakes.

Yep.  Looks like a male and female water snake making more water snakes.

I had one about 2.5' long almost climb up my leg when I was thigh deep trout fishing in a river a few weeks back. It must had thought I was a tree or log in the river. I had to scare it away at the last second before it tried to climb up my leg.
