Need advice on new fish finder & setup on my Tracker Grizzly 1448
I'd be prone to looking at used ones or replaced models as well. I am not a Hummingbird guy so I can't say if there is a sweet spot, but I've always had luck in the past constantly flipping as new price points plopped in and deals arrived.

Way off-topic. A cooking discussion?
Even great restaurants screw it up. Italian restaurants that can't make pasta from flour are not Italian restaurants in my book. Carbonara is harder with fresh pasta though as you have to let it dry a bit otherwise it cooks to fast to integrate the water the right way. Obviously that was with bacon and not pancetta, but it is what I had and was an unplanned meal. There is zero cream in mine, just eggs/yolkds, pasta water, fat from the bacon and p. reggiano. Of course restaurants use cream so that it can sit a while before being delivered to your table...but longevity is not something you should strive for on a carbonara.

New boat trouble
Yep. Too much trailer. Don't back in as far.

Help with Rods/Reels/Line Test and Style
Since you already have your boat fishing rods, I would go as long as possible on the shore rods. One medium and one MH both in fast. At least 7', but preferably closer to 8' or even more if you can find them.

Carbonara tonight.

I'm going to start throwing this....
Dropshot....maybe. I HATE fishing slow so I might not, not sure I care...but I probably should because I know it is needed some days. Normally on those days I will just go find slop and target a few beasts with a frog instead. That being said, I see people over and over again try something new at the wrong time. Choose the lure, the appropriate time to throw it and go throw it. Do NOT switch to a different confidence bait right away, do not throw it where you aren't confident in it from what you expect and do not throw it when your other confidence baits aren't working. If you follow those steps you will expand your arsenal and build confidence more quickly.

Thanks. Just grabbed a Metanium DC and a Tatula SV103 at 15% ....and a bunch of other random things.

Why did I lose this one?
He spit it. Not enough tension. Either from too big of a hook for the line and setting effort, not enough tension during the fight, or poor tension while reeling. As an aside, wacky rigged and 4/0 on spinning makes zero sense to me. Use an appropriate hook and the rest of the setup will be fine.

New St Croix rod
They sell their blanks. Can build it or have it built anyway you want. I have a few spinning rod blanks that are now baitcasters.

Disillusioned by new Shimano Vanford 500 vs Lew's Wally Marshall Signature Series 50
Now I am really curious. Ordered the Wally Lew's special this am. It is going on a 5'6" UL that I got free at some point for my boys to fish off the dock with. Might get cast for a few hours 2x this year before bass season opens up by one of them as well...but might not.

Disillusioned by new Shimano Vanford 500 vs Lew's Wally Marshall Signature Series 50
Where can you buy the Lew's WSP50 for $30? I have a couple "kids" crappie sticks with no reels. Don't need longevity for these.

I Found My First Bass Boat
I consider boats short term purchases. Flip them all the time. If you buy them used and right they cost you nothing. Never works with new. At 10 years old boats are usually done depreciating....sort of defines where the right window to buy is. I get it some people like new, totally fine, but not for me.

Amp hour ratings?
The ratings aren't all the same across technologies. AGM's are done. No reason for them. Price performance sucks. Either buy el cheapos or step up to lithiums.

I Found My First Bass Boat
It is a terrible year again to buy anything. Welcome to Covid. As for the trolling motors not being good on used boats, it is unusual to have one with spot lock but I would take an old cable drive MinnKota over one of the digital ones with spot lock anyday. I use my foot a ton and hate the Fortrex and such. In that case adding a power pole would be super helpful. The other thing I would say in a used boat is make sure that it is new enough to have fuel injection. The carbureted models are a pain in comparison.

Daiwa T-Wing, FG knots, and leader length
If you need a 10' leader perhaps just running straight FC makes sense.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
No pics...yet. Stopped in and played with blanks at Thorne Bros. New finesse spinning rod and crank bait rod are being built for me. Should have them in a few weeks.

I Found My First Bass Boat
Just to point out alternatives...and I assume you are near LA, here is a used machine that is a lot more boat than that one. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb/boa/d/bellflower-2005-champion-bass-boat/7278716473.html At the same time, no way I would buy that Champion without really knowing exactly what is meant by a new top end, who put it in and why...but it gives you an idea of what values are out there. If you were willing to travel a little ways to get one you could get something closer to what you are shopping for size wise, there isn't much on LA's CL and I didn't check Facebook Marketplace.

Buy tackle
Except that they don't tell you that your cart will be emptied, but your wish lists kept. Huge mistake on their part. I've forgotten 2x and it cost them a bunch of $ in orders as I ended up getting what I needed elsewhere.

Would You Fish Out This? Could You?
Then the cost of ownership will be really similar to a bassboat with a similar size motor, trolling motor, talon, electronic setup. Slight more wear and tear on the trailer due to the weight, but that is somewhat inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. My buddy has a 251xss, really nice boat. Does great out here on Tonka in the rough stuff, but is still controllable with the trolling motor. Obviously not as easy as a flat bottom boat, but that you already know. Have you been out in one or similar?

Would You Fish Out This? Could You?
Couldn't disagree more....user dependent of course. I put 800 hours on a 30' Sea Ray Sundancer and made money when I sold it. Over the 800 hours I had less than $300 in parts I used to repair it. I wasn't slow enough to buy it new and take that depreciation hit though.

Your usual fishing spot. How far a drive is it?
I grew up there...any never fished the red. Did a lot of fishing as a kid. ...okay outside of catching some golden eye by the dam and a few other super feeble attempts. Good fish in it near town?

best rod and reel for under $150?
Fuego is well worth the $20. As for FB, I have zero friends, don't comment on anything but buy & sell a ton on the marketplace.
