  1. Agree. I learned BC rh and have since moved to all left hand retrieve on my bcs. Took my right thumb a fraction of the time to get it. ?‍♂️ Kastking also has some decent entry models with good features. And zebco makes their omniflex line that’s perfect for cutting off and respooling to learn.
  2. I have used my friends Bullet and my only complaint is weight. That thing is heavy for fishing all day. Makes finesse stuff really tiring, but also constant casting made my wrist sore. His solution is to spool it only about 1/2 way. I didn’t really notice much difference. Other than that, yes, it is a good reel. Very smooth. IMO overpriced but it’s a quality product.
  3. I guess so. Interesting. Well, I stand by my Lews statement as well. Perfectly suitable budget spinning rods. I can’t check the models right now but that’s how budget they are...$30-$40 and I didn’t bother remembering ?
  4. I’m missing something...I have a Laguna 7’ medium action spinning with a medium fast tip. It’s pasted on the rod. 7SMMF. Medium/medium fast tip no? And sorry the link is BC

  6. Daiwa Lagunas are cheap. The arid x is more but a significant upgrade. Especially if you already have the reel. I would avoid the H20 express rods. Yikes. Wal mart had some cheap Lews spinning rods that are fine; I have a couple. But I like my lagunas for what they are: cheap rods that work fine.
  7. Ummmmm.... I have braid on spinning setups that’s fine/better because it has no memory. Just don’t over/under fill the spool. Most of my spinning reels are 5.2 ratio, a couple are 6.2...lol. Everything is not better on casting reels. One semi bad cast can ruin your whole spool. Wind in your face can ruin your whole spool. Like everything else it’s personal preference. My first casting reel was a shimano Cardiff 200. No magnetic or centrifugal systems to help, all thumb, and it was frustrating at first. Lotta practice with a plug. First time out...i nearly threw it in the water. If you want a BC get one, but don’t let people snowball you that is so much better or worse or anything. I have 4 vs 6 spinning setups. I sorta prefer the way less worry and hassle of spinning most of the time. But not always.
  8. I’ve had a spotted Gar grab my grub off a bobber and it was pretty strong. Wasn’t all that big either. And it kept doing it until I moved.
  9. Texas rigged soft plastics. That’s it.
  10. Wacky isn’t great for rocks. It will hang on everything, even if you turn the hook in for “weedless.” But that really ruins the action IMO. Rocks I do Trig, shallow squarebill or lipless crank. Maybe a jig if I’m willing to lose it.
  11. I always start with cast out let it sink...wait...bring it in repeat. With wacky, for me most hits come on the initial drop. If that gets nothing I do same as above. Or change rigs.
  12. Rained/stormed most of day yesterday, so I went fishing about 8pm. Panfish we’re jumping everywhere, like I coulda reached down and grabbed some on the bank. I brought buzzbait and jig...not a single bite.
  13. My TW orders not only take forever, they trickle in over the course of a month or more. Regardless of whether it said “back order” or not. I get my Cabelas orders in 10 days.
  14. Usually me bird nesting into the wind shuts down the bite as well. ?
  15. Same. Not to mention working finesse style baits. Why on Earth use my non-dominant hand?
  16. Also possible spooling that the braid got roughed. I’ve done it once before from keeping pressure on it to get a tight spool. I inadvertently messed it up the entire spool length. It was Berkeley big game 30lb braid. Other than that...?‍♂️
  17. I do single, double (tandem and alike), large, small, silver, gold, painted...whatever works. At night I actually have my best luck in spinners with a single large Colorado. Painted or unpainted hasn’t seemed to matter.
  18. Just to be fair, that does describe most of the fisherman I encounter. Throwing trash around, cigarette butts everywhere, parked right at the water under the sign that says “no parking,” keeping anything they catch, fishing without a license, cleaning fish and leaving all the guts and skeleton right where they’re sitting, playing loud music, cursing at everyone else trying to fish, throwing things into the water...yeah, they act like bums and I brush them aside and ignore them. So I understand why people wouldn’t want those people around them. I don’t even want to be around them, and I teach most of their children.
  19. Ned, Nekos, and (N)dropshots. I know that’s three but they’re the same to me...not usable.
  20. It’s good to hear that you were relatively isolated from devastation. Colleague’s step dad died from it in his 50’s perfectly healthy. Student’s dad died from it in his early 40’s perfectly healthy. A younger student’s dad died from it in his late 30’s perfectly healthy. Not everyone was “immuno compromised.” That was the problem.
  21. That’s awesome. Mine was like the worst flu I’ve ever had. Felt like someone very heavy sitting on my chest for 5 days. Day 6 I woke up and after a while realized I could breathe and felt much better. After that, it was just hard to sit alone in a room having my family bring me everything and wave from the door with their masks on. Spent thanksgiving fishing all day alone...so it wasn’t all bad...
  22. I was trying to pry a fish out of rocks when an otter went casually swimming by.
