  1. When people say a “string trimmer” it makes me ?. It’s not hair. I say weed eater cause my parents did. That was the brand they had for years.
  2. I love power pro 20lb braid. 30 and 65 I use the Berkeley big game braid. Yes, I think it’s totally a brand thing.
  3. Yeah my Lews is down on the bottom of the rod handle. Not sure I like it there. I grab it there a lot; so far I haven’t hooked myself. But I feel it’s only a matter of time. I really order it under the first guide but still up higher than most. When walking I like to hold the rod at the balance point...which is usually right where they put the keeper. But walking the bank I usually can’t carry them tip up. It’s a serious consideration for me on a rod purchase ?
  4. Today is free fishing Saturday in Texas. I lasted about 10 minutes before I had to pack up and leave. The amount of trash being left behind...the yelling...the people...”hey buddy, do you fish?” Ugh. Am I just getting old and crabby? I’m all about people experiencing fishing but... I guess I can stay home 1 day of 365. Never going to subject myself to that again.

Grumpy old men A river runs through it
  6. I had one spinning rig for years. Nobody needs a bunch, it’s just nice ?. You can do anything you want from any setup. Certain ones just make it easier. But my grandad could catch any fish he wanted with any rod/reel in his hand. The lure and fisherman count. Rod/reel just make it harder/easier.
  7. I had a 6’6” MH fast spinning combo only for years. Caught a lot of fish if all kinds on it. If I only had one it’d still be that.
  8. Yeah I had to start writing down what’s on each rig and when. Most importantly the brand. Just can’t keep it straight anymore.
  9. In “A River Runs Through It,” he explains that (in Montana), drinking beer isn’t really drinking. ? Preachers kids that sink beer bottles in the Blackfoot River so they’ll be cold when they fish back to where they started.
  10. Also something about being alone walking the bank. Not having to watch for anyone, or wait for them. I really don’t like people talking to me when I fish (or at all really ?). So it’s just a better experience.
  11. I have kids pass out occasionally during marching band. Every single one is the same: Drink that morning? Monster/coffee/milk/nothing Breakfast? Donuts/Monster/Sugary cereal/nothing Water jug? “ forgot it”/didn’t bring it. But thank God they remembered their cell phone. ??
  12. Agree. I love taking my sons, but I’d rather go alone.
  13. Dated a girl whose family had a couple boats at their lake house. The aluminum was for fishing in case you hit something. According to her grandfather, the aluminum boat wouldn’t crack/break. Just bend. The fiberglass was for partying and tubing since it was more stable in rough water. And it would definitely crack if you hit something.
  14. I go when I can go, but bluebird hot as hell is the worst. I’ll take hurricane winds or a typhoon over it. Lightening is only thing that sends me home.
  15. Today I was standing ankle to shin deep in a nasty dirty water. Lotta rain lately. Fish jumping everywhere. Perfect weather. Nothing. Not even little panfish. They even knocked my bait away a few times. It was just sad lol. 3 hours and nothing.

Just means he’s probably better at cheating. The pressure to succeed today is just ridiculous. Parents can’t deal so they can’t teach their kids to deal. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if the kid got home and mom and dad justified it to him. Or encouraged him to do it. Or helped. I’ve had parents lie to my face more than the kids. And they think they’re doing it for their children. It’s sad that they cheated on a fishing tournament. Lotta lives on the line here...I can see how it’s blurry...must win to save...oh yeah.
  17. Man, its definitely harder but I actually really like it; just me (besides love birds), quiet, cool(er). I’m on the bank though. Blessing and a curse. Can be nervous. If I encounter another living being other than a fish I just leave. Human or animal.
  18. As much as people generally just suck, we have all mostly lost the ability to be patient. I’m not saying everyone should be a ****** and expect kindness but I constantly remind myself that they’re people too. Who knows what’s going on. And I’d prefer grace when I’m taking 20 minutes at the ramp cause I’m just sucking that day. I’m the guy that takes 5 seconds to order my coffee at Starbucks. Takes me almost 5 minutes if I’m ordering for my family.
  19. I used my ugly stik elite for years as a do all. Cause it will. Now it’s my frog rod and I hardly touch it. The more you get into finesse fishing the worse ugly stik performs. That being said, get a reel and go fishing. It flat can’t do subtle but it will catch fish. It’s great for spinner baits, cranks, anything moving. Doesn’t transmit well so I never used it for worms to great success. Other than swimming something. But it’s a good rod. Solid.
  20. I fear it’s the new American dream: be stupid for as long as possible so you can have kids that do it too Darwin was on to something... ?
  21. That’s what I was thinking. It really could just be the pond. Hang in there.
  22. Both but definitely skirt and trailer more successfully.
  23. Both my grandfathers served in WW II. One marine aboard the USS Essex, one army paratrooper at Normandy. It’s interesting to me now because growing up we all had that elementary school report to do where we called our grandparents and interviewed them about the war. Now I have students that complain about how hard it is to find someone.
  24. I enjoy summer night fishing. Usually start around 8pm when it’s still light but the fish are out after hiding in shade all day. They tend to be pretty aggressive most evenings.
  25. Yeah it’s a versatile worm for a good price. I think it makes a great Carolina and drop shot worm as well.
