  1. If you’re asking what action is good all around I actually prefer medium-heavy. If you’re asking which of those combos to get, I would do the black max. I have one quantum reel and it just feels cheap to me. Does fine, but feels cheap.

I got to talk to a rather “famous” local BBQ joint owner before he retired. His thing was high and fast was for pork or dark chicken meat. Beef was all low and slow. Edit: the same went for sauce. Never applied to cooking beef, and Harold didn’t even put on when eating. He felt it was a pork or chicken thing. Beef was all rub.
  3. I wanted to get a limo for my wife’s birthday. They said it was $350 and I would have to drive. I said that’s ridiculous, I’m not gonna pay $300 and have nothing to chauffeur it.
  4. How many apples grow on trees? All of them. What do you call a dog with no legs? Doesnt matter he ain’t coming. What do you call a guy with a rubber toe? Ruberto
  5. Could be rosy reds. Not sure what they grow into, but they are kind of a reflective pink.
  6. I have Berkeley big game 30 and 65lb braid and I use them for jigging/top water. Usually don’t notice noise. 20lb power pro and spiderwire are quieter and I like them a lot more as lines. Especially the power pro. I had yozuri I got from recommendations and I have never had so much trouble with a braid. 10, 20, and 30lb all just so sticky, wind knots, the 20 broke off under very little pressure...just bleh. I gave up on it and got more power pro. I recommend it 10-30lb. At 65 and up I like big game cause it’s cheap.
  7. I like to throw past where I’m looking and then I just raise my rod tip while I start cranking until the bait gets going. . Let’s me go fast or slow over the top of the water. But don’t underestimate a buzzbait moving through the water column under the surface. I think I’ve actually gotten more fish with it moving underwater.
  8. Spinners of any kind. And swim baits of any kind.
  9. Grackles swamp the trees at our local mall every summer. Several years ago the city announced they were going to let people come shoot them. (Welcome to Texas I guess.). Loooooooooot of people showed up...as well as the state government that informed everyone they’re federally protected.
  10. I have big game 12lb for my spinners/cranks. Got snagged on a rock and ended up bending trebles before knot, line, or snap caved. Great stuff. My 10 year old hauled up a fallen TREE, not a log, with the same line on a beetle spin.
  11. Haha yeah. In crappy weather I enjoy organizing/reorganizing my tackle. Idle hands...
  12. Not outdated, I just prefer tungsten now.
  13. I’m in the opposite now. I was catching fish in rainy overcast. Now it’s 80-90 and 20-30 mph winds with 40 mph gusts everyday and you can’t buy a bite. I actually miss the cool/cold and overcast for the first time ever. This was one of my most successful winter to spring transitions.
  14. I use a 1/0 or 2/0 gamakatsu wide gap.
  15. I was doing shaky head today at a public park “lake”. 6’ deep at most, very windy. In the shallow edge I could see my rig sitting there so I experimented shaking it up and down, side to side, etc. I am using 20lb braid with a floro leader and the shaking slack line didn’t move it at all. I had to at least get some tension on the line. Then I bumped on the rod with my other hand like someone said above and that got it wiggling without moving the bait. And then a nice 1.5lb bass came and jacked my bait and I just kinda pulled up and pulled him out. So that’s what I’m gonna do from now on. ? But honestly, the wind was doing most of the work. It was pretty cool to see my worm tail floating and “undulating” (mmm talk slower) just on slack line.
  16. Here’s me: I only use circle hooks (octopus) for cat fishing. And I don’t really catfish anymore. The circle hook is designed to set itself and you just reel in. And that is what mine always did. Setting a circle hook is really just ripping on it. You may hurt the fish, you may rip it out, etc. I set my hook on a wacky rig, yes. But I don’t use a circle hook.
  17. I prefer 2/0 cause if it isn’t working I’ll just turn the worm T rig. It’s a little small but I like it that way. It works for me. If my life depended on it...I would just leave. But I would take 1/0 over 1 if I was gonna like win money or something.
  18. I’ve caught fish wacky with any size and style hook I had in my tackle. It’s one of the most versatile ways to throw a worm simply because it’s so simple. I will say the bigger the hook the more you’ll get snagged on like...everything.
  19. I use a lot of gammas. It’s what is readily available to me. Anything else that’s of quality I have to order and it takes forever.
  20. I have found that the catfish don’t trouble my cranks or swimbaits. Worms, craws, grubs yes. In-line spinners yes. Have never had a catfish grab a “naked” hook though. Other than the inline and that’s small cats.
  21. This debate reminds me of the scene in Bull Durham where Susan Sarandon barges into Kevin Costner’s hotel room. He ultimately tells her that if you think you’re winning cause you wear women’s underwear or breathe through your eyelids...then you are.
  22. I spool full braid on electrical tape.
  23. Last night fishing a small “lake” at a public park. Dude is fishing across from me so maybe 30ft. A guy walks out from under the bridge and proceeds to take a leak in the lake. His dog comes running up and starts barking. Dude turns and pees on his dog while telling it to shut up. A lady comes from the other direction and yells at him about yelling at his dog and peeing on it. He leaves cussing. She proceeds to squat and pee in the water. Me and the dude across from me just keep reeling and watching all this. She leaves. I’m kinda chuckling to myself. Dude calls across to me “hey man, are those the normal apple wired headphones that came with the phone?” ?
  24. No, that’s why they’re different. That being said, most people tend to fish them the same. I have a 7’ MF BC for Texas rig. 1/8 is lightest I’ll go with it. Weightless I go spinning. But I have to get my md heavy spinning or casting if I’m throwing into veggies. Get a big fish on there and your md rod will snap like a toothpick. At least mine did...
  25. If you’re trying to get into the salad, you need a heavier spoon.
