  1. Yeah not my first choice, but sometimes the only choice. And C rigs work or I wouldn’t bother.

Well, that’s why I am asking for advice. I don’t have a boat, and the lake is so full shore access is very limited. It’s a public lake in town which limits access even more due to people being there. I don’t expect to make a killing when I go, but the better fishing is 30 mins away and not possible when I only have an hour or so. But I want to catch something, and I did tonight on the light swim jig suggestion. But I’ve been at least 5 times before and got nothing. It’s how it goes at this lake.

Lol, you’re awesome. 10 mins in I got this little guy. Closest swim jig I had and I just cut a yum swim in dinger down.

Thank you for this, I’m headed to try it tonight. Moving is not an option when I don’t have 30 mins drive to go to a better place. For the most part this lake is people parked at a spot making out every night, but there’s 2 fishing spots I walk to that no one else cares about. I’ll definitely try the swim jig.
  5. When time is short only spot I can get to is not a great bass lake, but they’re in there. I’ve caught 2+ lber in this spot once or twice before. Right now? Nothing. They’re there. They jump. Nothing. Water temp is 80-85, 4-6 ft of water, very dirty, heavily pressured public lake but no motor craft, plenty of cover to get hung on, rocky bottom, typically 7pm-9 (fading light). I’ve tried spinners, chatterbaits, trig worms and craws, wacky worms, jigs and craws, shakeyhead, Ned, lipless cranks, squarebills, buzzbaits, whopper plopper, jitterbugs, dragonflies, and frogs. I’m afraid to try dropshot or Carolina cause I’ve lost a few shakey heads and several wacky/trigs on the rocks. Every technique I can read about for each as I’m skunked most every time so I just practice what I find. I generally only take 2 setups each time so I won’t just put something down after 3 or 4 casts. My 2 decent bass catches in this lake came off buzzbait and a spinner. Panfish are easy with live worms so I’m not actually ever skunked unless I don’t feel like getting bluegill. Also catfish are easy with just about anything. Not interesting at all. I know I said it’s a hard place, but it’s my only option evenings after kids are in bed, and I need to go fishing, and there’s bass in there. Have I missed something? Suggestions?
  6. It has been for me. I still remember the last time I stuck my hand down in a catfish mouth. Richard gene has a video where he’s catching 10-20lbers from bank and at one point has no choice but to grab it by the mouth. His “Yowch!” Is hysterical. Happens to him a couple times and at the end he holds up his hand for you to see the bruising and cuts. Been there done that. Rather lose it now (I don’t eat fish anyway.)
  7. Won’t last long if they don’t. And very few people actually take the time to ask. Or they feel bad or whatever. I don’t mind going where the best deal is, but these stores would be stupid not to “reward” your loyalty and respect that you’d rather buy it from them. Besides, they’re getting the extra $8 from everyone else.
  8. Turtles eat fish. Not the other way around no matter the turtle size. Another issue with turtles is they leave the pond and return, bringing other things with them. They are considered borderline invasive where I live. I’d get rid of them before you even consider stocking more, and you have to wait to be sure they didn’t lay eggs. They will strip your pond then move on…then come back if allowed to.
  9. $7.99 for the 6 packs anywhere here. No 20’s to be found locally.
  10. My problem is bank fishing now the water is so hot they mostly hang deep. I can’t reach them. I got a couple dinks lobbing my buzzbait a couple weeks ago, but it’s exhausting. I’ve been massacring bluegill on live worms when I get tired of trying to cast 50-70 yards.
  11. Last weekend nothing worked. Weekend before that jigs had some success. Today I got a 2lber amd a few smaller on underspins with rage swimmer trailer. Hang in there. ?‍♂️
  12. Never got into it. Made it about 10 mins through one episode.
  13. I enjoy fishing the most when the water cools down. I don’t mind hot weather at all, but it’s nice being alone at every lake. No one else wants to stand in the cold. And I’ve caught some awesome fish when they are supposedly “lethargic.” And for bank fishing it tends to bring them closer for warmth.
  14. Oh I agree. I use the trilene on spinners/swimbaits I’m pulling through vegetation cause the tag end doesn’t stick up. I use Palomar on terminal hooks. Uni for everything else including topwater/frogs.
  15. Same, and I think it’s also cause of how the spinning rods pull down from the eyes and not through the rod.
  16. I thought for years it was fish sucking bugs from the surface. Then I was walking my dog around a park pond and saw bugs dancing across the surface…making the same exact circles. So now I’m pretty sold that they’re actually just tiny insects dipping water at the surface. But hey, bugs attract small fish that attract big fish. So it all comes out in the wash.
  17. I do braid to FC leader (like 7’+) on both my spinning rigs to save money on FC, no line conditioner necessary, and no problems with memory. Just a suggestion. Redo leader when it gets to about 3’ or so. I use an Alberto knot. Love it. I tried straight floro on spinning one time and have never forgiven myself.
  18. I think if you think it does it does. If you think it doesn’t it doesn’t. Personally, I agree with previously stated about action and fall in the water affecting bite vs visibility.
  19. For what it’s worth I do buzzbaits on my spinnerbait/swimbait rod as I condensed. 12lb big game mono. No problems. Have also been known to T rig a worm with 1/8 oz weight. Or even weightless wacky if I didn’t bring either of those setups. I know people love to hate on mono but it’s been around so long for a reason. I have also had problems with the buzzbait fouling on braid so I just don’t combine them anymore.
  20. Alberto knot here. Never had a problem. Although I also don’t use leaders because I think the fish can see it in my dirty lakes, I do it for abrasion, saving braid, shock absorption, etc. I mostly use straight braid.
  21. I’m missing how it’s anyone else’s fault someone thought a $150 tourney fee was smart on a crowded PUBLIC lake. Like, I hope these people don’t use the sidewalk during a 5k. ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️
  22. The uploading sideways just didn’t seem realistic…
  23. Funny question. Cause you answered it yourself when you said a rod rated for 1oz… Guess you’ll find out.
  24. I fish naked. Works every time. ???
  25. I can launch a whopper plopper a mile without trying on 65lb braid. It’s also awesome cause when you can’t see it you can usually still see the water churning. Great topwater bait.
