  1. The only time I haven’t caught big bass (or much of anything) during the day is summer. It’s just too hot for them and me. But I got a 5+ just yesterday on a lipless crank at 12pm. Got several more dinks after that.
  2. I’ve started using spinning gear for anything that’s truly 1/8oz or lighter. (So a Trig plastic with 1/8oz weight doesn’t count). Just so much less worry and more fun fishing. I don’t have the thumb control or patience on my BC. And I also really like 10-15lb braid to leader. Can cast these tiny light lures 20-25 yards if I really want to.
  3. Lol same. I can fish slowly if I’m somewhere on the bank that I can’t change spots easily. That encourages me to slow way down and try everything.
  4. Agree. The longer handle really felt more of a hinderance to me.
  5. Mine is power pro for 10-20lb braid. I think it’s great for the price.
  6. I failed to mention earlier when I drag my worm around in the grass I go weightless straight 15-20lb braid. Much easier to cut through grass when hung up. I also bury the tip in the worm “weedless” and check it every few casts to be sure it stays. Frogs I go 65lb braid cause when they pull it down they really get in there.
  7. Not exactly easy to keep up with all that stuff.
  8. Top water. But I drag a worm or even a bug through grass. The top of it.
  9. Always my search bait especially somewhere new. Doesn’t irk me nearly as much to lose it. I usually move from bottom to top of water anyway. Just kinda how I do it, but I’m on the bank. If that even matters…
  10. Uhhhh…contradiction there. He wouldn’t be in so much trouble if he were even sort of honest. Look at Fisher at A&M. Can’t get any more egg on the face. Colleges make their decisions and then have buyers remorse. Then it’s everyone else’s fault but theirs. The irony is just too much. And everyone giving them a pass on their wasteful spending over something so unrelated to their mission (I believe they’re supposed to be educating or something) and their lying and mishandling of serious offenses is just pathetic.

I’ve caught fish with parasites on their bodies, but this is just weird. Check out this article from USA TODAY: This fish caught in Texas is ‘spooky’ – but also fascinating https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ftw/2021/10/20/recent-texas-catch-spooky-but-also-fascinating/119067578/
  12. 3/8 sexy shad. Single Colorado or tandem with willow.
  13. A variety of skirted jigs is safe and covers the water column. I’m in west Texas and swim jigs/arkie style that you fish just about any way you want work well. Especially in dirty water. I’ve never had much success with football unless losing it counts.
  14. I’ve had good luck flopping a wacky rig around in the same condition. I just keep it from sinking into the slop. Although that has even worked out a few times. They grab it right as it hits the hydrilla before it turns into swamp thing. Also had success with an in-line spinner working around and “over” it, but this is the most frustrating way. Constantly cleaning that crap off the lure.
  15. I quit changing oil myself when I noticed it wasn’t really saving me money anymore. The place I go is really good. Not a drop anywhere when I leave. I was never able to keep it that clean.
  16. I use a cheap sharpener when needed. Like, when the hook doesn’t scratch my finger nail I sharpen it. But honestly I’ve typically lost it before then…
  17. We’ve all had days where you throw what never works in desperation and it suddenly works with no reasoning why. Who knows? Personally, I still think presentation/lure selection trumps color for me almost every time.
  18. I was always told slow action is for smaller fish to make it feel like you have a giant fish. ?‍♂️ I know the only slow action rod I ever used felt like trying to pull something out of a quicksand.
  19. I tend toward minimal fishing equipment as I’m bank bound. Walking and carrying everything makes you really question if you’ll actually use stuff. I don’t do it with 3 boxes, but I have a backpack. Mine has 6 boxes (various sizes, mostly smaller), 3 gallon ziplocks of plastics, and tools. I limit myself to 3 setups or less. One on the pack, one in each hand. Some days it’s only 2 if I think there’s a lot of tree limbs (one in each hand). I’m indifferent to taking time to retie different lures on my 2 setups. I have stuff “setup” that way. So you don’t have to go bare bones all the time, but I think taking minimal tackle makes for less pressure to use something just cause you brought it. But going minimal on gear, to me, means you maximize time spent changing lures. Unless you don’t change anything, which I also sometimes do, and if you chose poorly on what you brought then it’s just kinda frustrating. When I do this I stick to one type of fishing. Like worms only. So I take my Trig/wacky/shaky/Ned/(etc) box only so I can’t cheat. And my gallon ziplock of worms. IMO, if you wanna go minimal, worms are the way to go cause there’s really never a time they won’t work for you. They’re such versatile lures in terms of ways and areas to fish them.
  20. I’ve caught on lipless cranks, jigs, and worms that sat a couple feet out while I was fixing a backlash. Always funny when it happens; nothing quite like the surprise when you’re just reeling up to cast again and you feel it.
  21. Lol I think having cash on hand would be the least of your problems in this scenario. I always keep at least $50 cash on me and $20 cash in the truck. Just in case. But I use my credit card, not debit, for as much as possible and pay it off every month. Especially gas. Had my debit card number stolen 3 times and it was such a freaking hassle every time. The credit card? Open app dispute charge done. If it’s really bad they send me another card in like a day or 2. Credit cards aren’t for everyone; they require a good deal of discipline. But I like the ease and peace of mind they bring me. And the money isn’t instantly gone and it’s not mine if there’s a problem ?? And I build points which is whatever. Occasionally it buys my gas one time.
  22. I believe that’s called “excused.” You rebel.
  23. Without knowing water temp I’ll say this: in the really hot months here in Texas I fish the deepest I can in the shade. In the colder months I fish the shallow water in the sun. I’m bank bound so in hot months I do a lot of night fishing, but I still catch fish in the middle of a 100 degree bluebird sky day…mostly in the shade under trees and such. In winter, they’re kinda everywhere there is sun, usually shallow, in the warmer water. Especially with rocks as they absorb heat.
  24. I do better numbers summer through fall, but I do better size winter through spring. And I’ve come to enjoy cold fishing cause no one else is out there. So numbers wise I’ve done fine, size wise I’m past it.
