  1. Mine is 7’. Even 6.6” on jigs but I fish from bank. Some places my 6’ panfish rid is a hassle to cast.
  2. Irony is I went back last night and there was a guy sitting in a chair cat fishing. His kid was roaming around the water barefoot...right where those two morons had been. I called over and told him and he was like “whatever mind your own business.” Ok dude. Ok.
  3. I never used one before I saw someone else doing it. Now I almost always use one. I don’t use one when pulling through thick grass. It just kinda makes it harder and I don’t really think it’s helps much since you’re already shaking the grass. At night I always have a bulky trailer with 2 Colorado blades.
  4. So buy $1 wal mart spinners. And put a rag on it.
  5. ^^ This. I prefer Colorado blades. And maybe a wacky rig but keep it from hitting bottom. I have some success that way with ponds when it’s cold.
  6. I mean they catch fish. There’s a thread on here where he made them into underspins. They have their use. I use them in really nasty rocky areas where I’ll lose them. Or for my kids.
  7. White or black. Day or night. That’s as complicated as I get with them. I’m more diverse with trailers.
  8. Oh me and the other guy with kids both called over “hey man, you’re breaking glass in the water.” Im sure you can imagine their response. Called police/warden. Never showed. Kinda how it goes around here. And with my kids with me I’m very careful about conflict. Open carry and all. We have had a couple straight up rage shootings in past year.
  9. Unfortunately people are people. Look at a stadium after a game. Look at a movie theater after the movie. Trashy trashy trashy. “It’s someone’s job to clean this up...” Just ridiculous. Just today was watching a guy and his kids fishing just like me and mine. Between us were two guys fishing and throwing bottles in the water to throw rocks and try to break them.
  10. True to form wasn’t catching on Trig, jig, or spinner. So I put a Creme swim bait on. 1/4 oz. Boom. Sorry not a great pic but I’m balanced on rocks with 20-30 mph constant wind. Is this is a striper? Not to be too obviously stupid but I wasn’t sure. Really fought hard too.
  11. I learned on a 6’6” MH ugly stick with a shimano Cardiff 200a. Just stick with it if you really want to learn it. And like said above, proper adjustment helps. But most people learned long before magnetic brakes and centrifugal brakes were a thing to adjust so easily, so you’ll get it. Don’t try to throw the bait hard. I still have to remind myself to cast smooth ir pay the price.
  12. I like the arkie head for getting through the grass. Although a bladed jig, or chatter bait, works well too. Easy to forget it’s a jig. And the blade doesn’t get caught up nearly like you’d think.
  13. Definitely get a rod that can handle more than advertised spinner. Trailers also add a lot more weight as well. I have a Lews Mh 7’ as my spinner/buzzbait rod. 15lb mono spinning setup. Works great, but there’s a couple of the frog buzzers that are dang heavy on it. Feels almost like to much. Almost.
  14. Barring hurting/killing it, who cares how someone lands their fish? If they lose or don’t lose grabbing line, lip, net, fin, tail, eyeball, egg sac,...it doesn’t concern me. I’ll do what works for me and guarantees I don’t hurt or lose the fish. Period. Although it’s funny cause losing the fish...I am release anyway. This is why I like fishing alone. If someone “hey you know grabbing like that” to me when I’m fishing I’ll show you why you don’t mess with Texas.
  15. Well if you can put lipstick on a pig why not a bass? Of the fish I’ve caught this winter, so Dec till now, only a couple had the red lip. And only one of those was super cold water.
  16. Oh I’m with you. I don’t even love taking anyone but my older son. He gets it. Anyone else? ........... I’m perfectly happy not to see another person the whole day. And then there’s when I’m fishing!
  17. Because the spool is filling?
  18. Trash is a real problem but the increase in people has increased the noise. Trying to fish and guys are yelling and partying with a fire trying to figure out why they aren’t catching anything. I don’t feel it’s overfished cause these idiots don’t catch anything. But it’s definitely over-crowded some days.
  19. Do this already when using a light to attract their food thereby attracting them.
  20. I’ve kinda come to recognize ones I see all over, but personally I don’t think it matters to the fish if I know the name of the plant I pulled it out of. As for resources, Texas Parks and Wildlife pamphlets on lakes usually list the common vegetation. (Or there’s YouTube videos from a couple like Roland Martin where he points out hydrilla and such.) I would hope other states do the same. You can always google the weed of choice and you’ll see plenty of pics of it. But I mean if I see plants, I throw to it. Regardless of kind.
  21. Early morning/late evening fishing is for warm temps. Cold water you generally have better chances when the sun comes up and warms the water a little. This time of year I still don’t get to the water before 10ish. Sometimes 12. And it usually pays off. Especially around concrete boat ramps that warm fast.
  22. Had it explained to me that the chance of weather is always 50-50. Those percentages are actually the amount of viewing area that could be affected. So a 20% chance of rain means there’s a 50% chance that 20% of the viewing area COULD get rain. Makes a lot more sense whether true or not. Otherwise, I want this job where I can do it completely wrong 50% of the time and still have a job.
  23. In winter I’ll leave it until it’s no longer usable, but I “rejuice” it every outing. In summer, especially the heat of it, it is never really a problem. I’ve used it or lost it per trip.
  24. Green vs hi vis vs red/pink braid. Hi vis yellow vs clear mono. Anyone use different colors? Do you sharpie the last few feet? As I get older I’m noticing I can’t see my line as well so I’m ready to try different colors. Braid and mono. Also curious if anyone ties a green braid “leader” to pink or yellow rather than sharpie it. I know people do normal leaders to colors but I prefer straight braid.
