  1. Man that sounds stressful, stress and fishing shouldn’t go together. I’d pick a different spot or change up the time and/ or day.
  2. That might work. I figure I can fit a backpack with a couple of those plastic boxes in it on the stern under the bungee cords if need be.
  3. This is my typical three tray Plano box that I’ve had for almost 20 years. They’re great and this thing will last me my lifetime probably. Problem is though it’s just too bulky for kayak fishing. What are some alternatives for this? Something I can fit on the stern as pictured. All I really need are my senko bags, hooks, some top waters and some room for a few tools.
  4. Welcome! My wife is from Northport, beautiful area down there.
  5. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. Think the valuable lessons we can all learn from this are always wear a PFD, type 1, 3 or 5 (and not inflatable) and wear a whistle. Good stuff.
  6. I have a nice, serviceable paddle vest that’s about 12 years old but my wife who grew up around boats her whole life (Long Island) thinks I should replace it due to the age. Probably will replace it in the spring. Think I’ll get one more good summer and fall out of it. No matter what though, I won’t go on the water without a PFD. In NYS it’s the law, and more importantly, it’s crazy not to. I’m a volunteer FF and we train in water rescue as there is a popular lake in our district; you risk not only yourself but others as well when you go out without one.
  7. Thanks guys. Also sorry the pictures are sideways, I’ll figure it out someday ?
  8. Maiden voyage of my new Pelican Trailblazer 100 NXT. Added a clamp on Scotty rod holder and clamp on paddle clip and voila, it’s a fishing kayak. It’s a simple rig but I fish slow so this is just my speed. Really happy with the stability of this and for a 10ft, it tracks well.
  9. It’s funny that you say this, this was actually the color that inspired this post! Was looking at this color at the store but chickened out and stuck with the tried and true green watermelon with black flake. Bought two packages of that and one package of black with blue flake. That green pumpkin magic did intice me though. Very glittery.
  10. Very nice, appreciate you including the description, number and photos!
  11. I like the black with blue flake for night fishing.
  12. If I’m not confident with the bait I’m using, the chances of getting skunked greatly increase. At least that’s what it seems like.
  13. I know this is all very body of water specific, but what in your experience has been a good color? Just went to the sporting goods store today and looking at all the colors got me thinking. I normally stick with what works for me, which is either GY 5” watermelon with black flake, or bubble gum. But what are some good different ones outside of the mainstays most of us use?
  14. There’s only one person I fish with and he’s smart enough to throw what I’m throwing if I’m crushing it.
  15. It really seems like measuring is just easier at times, especially in a kayak.
  16. Yeah that’s a good point, I think logistically it would be too hard to determine the difference by anglers just by appearance anyhow. I think just focusing on an anglers own state record is the simplest pollution if that is their thing to chase.
  17. This really had me thinking; should Florida strain lmb have their own separate record, and be treated as their own species? Up until recently I thought bass were bigger down south just because they don’t really have a winter freeze over down there. The more I read it sounds like it’s almost a different bass completely, genetically (in regard to growth capabilities).
  18. The difference between regions is very important. Up here in New York people chase the NYS record, can’t bother with national or world records up here in the north anyhow. Personally I just chase my own PB.
  19. Not sure if the rod is the issue but make sure you have a medium heavy with a firm tip.
  20. I’m not familiar with him but what I do know is that we are living in a day and age where people are really critical of one another, particularly on social media. I too do not like gadgets and gizmos while fishing. Just my kayak, paddle, ugly stick and tackle box. Think we should all just support each other no matter what the fishing style is, so long as we are all following local laws etc.
  21. Welcome Jim! I’m also new and from upstate NY, just south of the Adirondacks. I just ordered a Pelican Trailblazer 100 NXT kayak, it should arrive in about two weeks. Next week I travel to Canton for a week for work, right near the St Lawrence River. Unfortunately it’s my understanding that even C&R isn’t allowed on that body of water before bass season opens.
  22. It was the one about fisherman not fighting with each other (fly fisherman vs bass, inland vs costal etc) and then a PFD awareness one.
  23. I’m literally watching a Chad Hoover YouTube video as I type this ?
  24. Personally I’ve never understood comparing myself to other anglers, I chase my PB. But then again I’m not a very competitive person, I just like fishing lol.
