Continue to search for active bass vs slowing down -when?
imma zombiepost because boredom on a calm sunny day i'm probably gonna find the clearest water I can near some bushes, throw a weightless fluke in some sort of green as far as I can towards those bushes, and then bring it back to me as slowly as I can...feeling as much bottom as possible ?

Lews Tournament XP - Anyone tried it?
I have one of these and I had the same experience. I found that the spool tension is the primary culprit - I'm not sure if they're using a particularly slick material on the spool spindle ends or a really slow thread pattern or something, but I had to tighten the spool tension noticeably more than my other lews reels to get the other brakes to work like normal. Usually I only tighten the tension enough to barely keep the spool from moving side to side - with this reel, it took that plus 5-7 clicks. A lot of other reels seem to lean more on the mag brake+centrifugal brakes than the spool tension comparatively, this one is much more a balance of all three braking features. It does still require more thumb than most people are used to. Had to cut my way out of 3 or 4 day-ending backlashes to get the hang of it, but it's a favorite reel now that it's locked in to good settings...if I pair it with the right rod, I can cast the full spool of 12# mono with a 1/2oz red eye shad. I still backlash on gusty days or when I'm in the vortex but a click or two of spool tension or mag brake takes care of that right away. Other thing with newer Lew's spool tension knobs - if it doesn't click, it's not threaded properly

My Updated Game Plan for This Season
I'm in this camp for sure...I caught a solid 10 different 5+lb fish on a lipless crankbait last year, several 3.5s and a 7-10 on a jerkbait and I sort of forgot that plastic existed for a while. This year I can't buy a bite on hard baits, my fish are all on chatterbaits, lizards, or flukes. I think I have one or two on a lipless, and maybe one on a jerkbait. Guess I picked the right year to be my Year of the Lizard...

Do you consider "live" bait cheating?
Live bait may be easier to present in a more life-like manner...finding the willing fish can be universally challenging

Spawn's on. Throw creatures shallow into laydowns and catch pigs

I think weightless flukes are good. Four on that today, in about two hours of messing about. Ray Bob spawn is in full effect. The spotted gar were up doing their thing too. It's good to be back.

I went into a BassProShop yesterday.
the Cabela's near me has a big fish tank gallery so I often go there to dream about bass when times are tough and I'm not catching anything

Not sure abut the older Daiwa SV103.
I'm not sure either, you should send it to me for testing. Will need an indefinite time

that's a thoughtful approach. i lost my dad to the virus in Jan '21, he was 65 and generally healthy. It's not a political or anxiety thing. We all have causes we care about because it affected us or someone close to us, it's different for everyone and part of that person's story. For most, I don't think it's more complicated than that really.

Those employees likely make less money per hour than some parking lots do tbh

The Grapevine Bass Pro (Dallas/Fort Worth) is pretty good in the reels section, but the rest of the store still experiences all those same issues above at peak times and days. I generally only go when it's a weather day, I'm already passing through, or when I need something specific on short notice that I know they carry (rare). I have no brand loyalty with big box retailers of any kind, I kind of see it as matching their level of commitment

oooooo zombieposting, always a good time. i think cheating is cheating and i also think that fish are better at living in water than i am. it's just fish and me, fooling each other on the daily

Caught a beat up 6ish on Ray Bob today mixed in with four other 1-3s. I think she may have been defending a bed. Chatterbait did the heavy lifting. My buddy caught a few 4s too. And the bluebonnets the mower guy ran over the other day are sprouting blooms, so they will come back. It's been a good day

I was referencing an old tomato commercial, angry tomato says "don't you know you can't tell how ripe a tomato is by squeezing it?!" all in jest

Any particular new lure you plan to use this year?
berkley's Gilly has been out for a while, but I'm gonna throw it for the first time on sunday and during spawn after that. I'm gonna be on a boat so I'm going to try doing a mojo-style rigging - pegged worm weight about 18-20" up, with 110 gilly side hooked on 3/0 offset shank EWG & 1/32 nail in the nose. I'm hoping to create a bit of a nose-down hunting type action. Like the gill is gonna swim around and then inspect the lakebed for food. I feel like this will be especially effective during spawn. When I'm on the shore of the shallow cove, it'll be a heavy C-rig but I'm probably gonna peg a black bullet-style float up against the plastic plus 1/16oz nail in hopes of slowing the fall rate but keeping it upright. Detecting strikes with the C rig will be an issue but a pegged weight will get slipped down the length of the line from shore. Sunday will be probably still pre-spawn with maaaaaybe an early bedding fish so I'm expecting to wear out the mag flukes/lizards, chatterbaits, and lipless. Might even bring a paddletail, I did get some of berkley's dark sleeper clones, the 1oz variety

You inherit Warren Buffett's estate. What do you build or buy?
the truth is out there. and it's watching us on livescope.

Hopefully, that would be sick. I would love to not need a trolling motor I'd still fish in those places. But I always wanted a Hog farm too

i've thought a LOT about what i would do with an insane amount of wealth buy a reservoir and all relevant lake-using tools (boat, truck, gunship etc). Think Lake Diversion in TX. You can buy a whole-ass multi-thousand-acre lake if you have the money and are willing to compromise with applicable DWR. I don't want ponds except for fish breeding. I want a whole reservoir. pay BR members to harvest a slot limit of bass and send me pics of the biggins while I am also harvesting a slot limit of bass and sending pics of biggins as well. non-members hunted for sport. never work again. continue to catch biggins. Also install a heavy duty artillery range/gun range somewhere nearby, complete with both a flight sim and an airstrip with laser-tag equipped P-51s. For those of us who want to play air-tag for real. surround the lake with houses for all my friends and pay off the government to lower the area taxes. When you're rich, anything is possible! Money unlocks a whole new world of price tags that were previously laws and regulations. Race tracks. invent a time machine and give the finger to barry goldwater figure out solutions for world hunger, air pollution tech, and getting the plastic out of our blood and rain wild how all of that is mathematically possible with only the wealth of one person
