Hello fellow Texas resident, DFW here

Depends on what you mean by worrying about snakes, lol. I don’t worry about them, but I do see them on almost every trip to Ray Roberts. They’re less prevalent at Texoma but definitely still present. 99% of the snakes you see down here are going to be harmless water snakes. Cottonmouths(moccasins) and copperheads are around but I’ve only run across them a handful of times. The common non venomous snakes tend to be the curious ones, the venomous ones tend to stay further off the beaten path. There are biological reasons for this. I go into the lake barefoot this time of year if that soothes your concerns about snakes at all. your choice of spot determines the safety of this. Water near tall grass tends to have more surprises in it. I have fished every public water over 1000 acres in DFW. I know some places much better than other but I can offer info on most Texas lakes east of Abilene and a few to the west. If you get to the panhandle someday, check out Lake Meredith. We have a forum member that fishes there with some frequency, fantastic guy. Meredith is unlike any place in Texas, you can catch walleye there

That stretch of 75 between Dallas and McKinney can be a real stinker some times. That said, if you’re on 75 on your own time, follow it north to Denison Dam and go throw a swim jig on the Lake Texoma side. There’s some decent Largemouths in there, but it’s really known for its striped bass fishery. And from the bank there are almost no limits. There are also solid smallmouth in there and all manner of gar and catfish, state record blue catfish of 121lbs. On the river side you can occasionally snag a spoonbill. On the Texas side of the Dam, you only need a Texas fishing license. The Texoma license is more geared for fishing on a boat. If you drive a litter further up the lake there is Eisenhower State Park which if you are bank fishing there no license needed (this goes for all shores within state park bounds in Texas)

For me, it is the Eastbound lanes of 183 Honorable mention to where 820 turns south in eastern Tarrant county

Welcome to DFW. You’ll have to let us know when you’ve picked your most hated highway. Joe Pool has some giants in it, fantastic fishing lake. Every major lake in DFW produces double digit bass at some point in the year. I know a guide that caught a ShareLunker there this year, I have fished with him. Right now we are in a heat wave after heavy rains so fishing has been scattered from what I have seen. I have been on hiatus from my rods for about a month but my buddies have been struggling as have the Tuesday night tournaments. Right now on Joe pool you probably want an ol monster in red bug or something similar, maybe give a buzz bait a whirl before sunrise

I mean it is a great spot. Sometimes I learn something from them. I don't necessarily have a problem with them even being there. Just like, don't make such a scene on entry. If they had dropped troll about 200 yards earlier we all would have had a nice time

4-6 Couple of dinks unpictured Missed several nice fish, bad hooksets and short strikes. The thing that frustrated me the most was the boat that rolled up in my little spot, I don't mind sharing but these guys didnt come off plane until the last second and then tried to ask me about bed fish. Brother, you just shut down the fishing for the both of us on that approach. Thanks but you can find your own beds. Would have been happy to share the spot if he'd had any measure of subtlety whatsoever. That little creek is so sensitive to boat noise.

Having fished all these lakes. Here's what I would suggest. If you're hunting a true LM giant, you probably want to be at Bois D'arc. It's only been open a couple years and they've pulled several DDs out of it. Also many 100+ fish days. JB Thomas or OH Ivie are where the biggest bass in the state live, but they are pressured and you stand just as good of chance at skunking. When you see Josh Jones post a giant with super muddy red water, that's JB Thomas. If the water is normal color he is at Ivie. Bois D'arc wont let you down if you hire a guide I've been on Fork several times and never really been that impressed. Been to Toledo. It's a huge lake. Sometimes difficult to locate bass. Sam Rayburn is a little more reliable for numbers If you want hybrid stripers, go to Lake Lewisville. I'm serious. I have friends that consistently pull hybrids that are 5-8lb out of there and I have seen a DD hybrid at that lake. As far as Saltwater goes...hit up Port Aransas

Well they can't all be perfect trips Got on a mess of bass this morning but lots went wrong. Had one wrap me on a log and snap off my favorite choppo. Rip pb machine. Lost four more, two of which felt and looked heavy. Last one stuck but busted the tail on my other favorite choppo. Ran out of choppos and they wouldnt hit anything else so I'm gonna get my wading shoes off and head to thr bps Whoops

Yes, my old PB was 7-10 caught on a skeeter with a vision 110 Thank you! Catching that on the surface, knee deep in the lake was really, really cool

Thanks! I had been out wading in that spot for about 45 minutes, with many followers and one hooked small hybrid gar. Right as I was thinking "well maybe big mama is further out and tired", she smashed the choppo. I gave her a second to make sure she had it. She jumped like four times, dove into some slop, managed to throw one of two hooks from what I could feel. About 10 feet from where I was wading, gave me a good head shake out of the water and I knew it was likely fish of the year, if not a PB. Once I pulled her out of the water I knew immediately it was a PB. I turned around and new occupants of the campsite I was fishing at were behind me. So that was my one bass for the day, once the site is occupied I am obligated to leave

This is how I usually grab them, the one that got me did it as I was tossing it back. The scales on the gill plate can be a little sharp too. But that is the best way 100%

I would want a house with a dock on Bois D'arc lake in Texas with a boat. It's the next big thing around here. It's only been open a few years and multiple double digits are coming out of it in 2025+26

we'll be marveling at your numbers soon enough. what's your over/under on 50 fish days this summer? whatever it is, i'll bet on the 'over'. it has taken me 34 years to be able to get over it quickly. anymore i just don't feel that i have the time to stay upset for too long, and it isn't worth it anyhow. easier said than done some days but we're getting better at it

I joke about my blanks these days, hence the dead shad photo lol. it used to really, really bug me. Now I just hear the loss horn from The Price is Right when I start walking to the car. i think hearing skunk stories from the guys i know who have boats made a difference. you can have all the tools in the world, win tournaments regularly, be looking right at the bass... and sometimes they just aren't going to play ball. It's OK
