  1. So what y'all didn't see in my latest catch pics...this happened to me twice in consecutive days leading to an impossible backlash on brand new braid. Twice. Except mine broke juuuust below the leader knot. I use a Palomar at the lure so that usually doesnt break. I had the same spool of braid on that reel for over a year without ever doing this. as soon as I started throwing lighter lures for the early spring bite, twice in two days. Usually this combo (falcon 8' medium, lews tournament pro) throws big walking baits around an ounce. But with the bass chasing a minimax I decided to throw a 3/8 on. Naturally this cost some distance and led to me putting more force into the cast. The rod doesn't load as well, and the line has a tendency to hit places on the rod it otherwise wouldn't. Too many instances of this can snap a leader. The other thing that can happen is your leader knot getting caught in the space where the guides attach to the rod. Both will snap it. It hasn't happened since I sat and thought about it, and started casting softer. Conclusion: braid to leader does not like casting with real force. Whatever the loading of your rod gets is what you get. Trying to sling it hard will end in heartbreak
  2. Had a cold front pass through last night, wind shifted from south to north. A friend needed to pre-fish for a tournament next month so we got in his nitro and crossed the main channel Ive been fishing
  3. That much fabric in the summer would probably kill me lol Mosquitoes don't really touch me unless I find my way into a swarm big enough to hear from a distance. Probably all the plastic in my blood
  4. More 4-8 4-12 5-4
  5. on the boat ramp ripraps there are probably a dozen within three feet of you at any given time. just gotta get comfortable with them. the majority of the time I don't get bit, but when I do it's usually many bites at once cause they're stuck in my pant leg or something. 99% it's a series of paired puncture scabs with some redness. my pinky is currently the 1%. That one must have been an invenomation or a mild secondary infection because it has been real mad really not that bad. would rather deal with an unusual number of spider bites vs mosquito bites
  6. clink clank I am a beneficiary of the work of TPWD and the USACE, they do all the hard work. I just fish here
  7. Combination of things there. The mowed spots y'all are used to seeing are a part of a waterfront campsite that gets mowed. We had a serious rain upstream over the weekend and the lake rose just over a foot. Since then, it's been 15-30mph south winds and bright sun - so a lot of muddy churned up water. This time of year that usually dictates shallows down here, so I dove into the brush and got to a stump I like. Fished a minimax along the edge of some invasive milfoil and got bit bites when it pulled free of the vegetables
  8. Mosquitoes avoid me, I hardly ever get bit by them. The spiders love me though. Combination of walking through tall grass and standing on one spot in the riprap too long. I do a lot of the spider equivalent of home invasions. They get caught in my pants hem and my sock/boot cuff more often than not. The one on my pinky got me while I was plugging in the bench grinder out in the shop I don't come across that many giants, typically the ones I find in my socks or on my boots are about the size of a quarter
  9. Now that's a rarity. Usually I get lit up by the little ones. Got a fresh one on my pinky yesterday Fried whole is best
  10. I got a notification for this thread and now I'm thinking about how it's almost wolf spider season heck yeah brother lets get bit
  11. it warms my heart to see a legal stringer of 14-17" bass taken from ray roberts. i get annoyed when i see someone intentionally taking home a double digit (saw a guy take home a 12lb bass last year), solely because they tend to be better spawning stock. If the fish was gonna die after being caught no matter what, take it home if you want. nature doesn't waste. just don't target the breeding stock for dinner fare
  12. the petrochemicals have filled in the wrinkles
  13. I love the olympics. Mostly curling and hockey, I'm a die hard NHL fan. As long as all my Dallas Stars make it home uninjured I will be happy
  14. What happened to the corners on this website. It's all smooth now, just like the surface of my brain
  15. Pliers holster came from A popular shopping brand website/streaming service/internet outage creator
  16. conquer your fears of losing your jig in the ripraps, and your winter dreams can come true. 4lbs on the dot

It depends on how disheveled I can appropriately be when I reach the top. If I can be sweating like a pig I don't mind a good workout. If I'm wearing something with a collar I am taking the elevator for a single floor
  18. They're still hitting the walking bait
  19. A 27000 acre reservoir changes more in one week than I could learn about it in two months. I will be on my deathbed confused about my last fishing trip there.
  20. good bye nico harrison welcome back dirk nowitzki
  21. I've recently started with some physical therapy in addition to my usual exercise. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome apparently. This is a recent discovery with the dislocation of my shoulder three times between August and September. I have a long list of related symptoms and physiological horrors that I thought were just normal stuff. But if y'all were wondering where I've been, I'm having a harder time than usual keeping my joints in place and it's been prohibitive
  22. Finally landed on a solid surface bite. Been having some health issues so haven't been fishing much until this week. Walking bait Wednesday yielded a four pounder and a mass of super dinks
