  1. Same man, I play guitar and stuff. No way in heck I'd ever do that. I understand that he had a buddy with him
  2. Thanks! It was a grind to start the year but I learned a lot. I've prided myself on having a generally high hookup ratio, but my losses usually come in bunches. Personal record is 8 lost in one day, so many swear words. Last night wasn't so bad, it just makes me want to go back out there. I will be doing this until there is no more fish or no more tackle
  3. Yahoo Story about it
  4. They were eating the Texas rig for a couple hours tonight...had this one close to 4, the little guy, and a sandwich size drum. Lost two that were probably solid fish, one of which I got a look at. Probably close to 5. No PBs or giants or anything but a couple of nice fish. I'd been on a nice streak of landing all my bites but there's always that day...today. regardless...they still like what I've been throwin em. 106 in the shade at my place today...car said 91 as I left the ramp at midnight
  5. A man at Lake Tawakoni, just west of Lake Fork, noodled a 98.7lb Flathead Catfish. He weighed it on a certified scale and says he's waiting on paperwork for it to be the noodling world record, though a man in east texas has an unofficial record of 106 out of a drain pipe (scale uncertified, fish released). I'll link the FB post here later tomorrow if that's cool. bed time.
  6. I had my dad's old walmart shimano spinning reel with a 90s zebco rod for a bit until the rod broke on a high stick one day, this was in 2021. Then I "graduated" to a red zebco slingshot that I put another shimano FX reel onto. Not a bad little $35 combo for travel after the reel upgrade. I think I broke it high sticking but I honestly don't remember...I got into the H2Oexpress rods, then baitcasting...and never really looked back. That little slingshot caught a ton of 1-2lb bass. I think that starting on lesser gear and learning to make it work makes more skills open up on nicer gear, imo the senses are tuned better when you upgrade from cheap gear instead of starting with the $300+ combos
  7. Heat indexes anywhere from 110-120 where I'm at but actual temps around 100. I've been avoiding it so hard that my tan is fading Those are some really pretty smallmouth
  8. Dink chilling last night. Bite's weird right now...I need to make myself get up early and get out before sunrise sometime soon before we get too close to the full moon and hopefully another bluegill spawn. Its just been so hot.
  9. Well I didn't get another 7# bass but last night did produce a smallmouth, a mess of bluegill, and a tiny spotted bass. Smallie ate the same thing as the 7# from the other night. Smallmouth were never stocked by TPWD in this lake. Many anglers fish decades here without catching one - so to me, it's a significant occurrence and is still special even when they're not particularly big. To have caught three this year (and for this to be the smallest of them) is feeling really awesome. I can't imagine catching that many bass in a day. I feel like I would have spaghetti arms after that, even if they don't get that big
  10. Even my night fishing requires some serious hydration right now...I get back to the car at 11pm and it's still in the mid 80s. Being in the sun is dangerous. The first time water crosses your mind after your last water break is the right time to drink more. It happens fast this time of year. also wear a hat and long sleeves! Skin cancer is real, too. I like using a 27" cotton bandana under the tilley LTM hat I always wear. It always feels cooler outside with that combo, I only feel hot when I get into A/C but by then it's time for the hat to come off anyway.
  11. The 1/8oz micro chatterbait I used for a similar sized blue cat sits on my desk lol
  12. Shocked me for sure lol I'm having a good month ? THAT is a feat of skill and teamwork...may not be the intended species but that's a monster for 6# line, regardless
  13. Finally got another chance to get out to the lake...been kinda sparse which is weird for me but thankfully I've been getting rewarded when I can go. I went for a brief time Sunday but the crowd was a bit much. Otherwise I haven't fished since last week's 7lber. Started off with the ultralight and got a decent crappie. Another 7lb bass at the same ole same ole...though, this time on a texas rig. Then a little 2.5-3ish guy and the bite stopped...topwater got totally still. Evening done. Great 60 minutes. I do believe the 7lber is the first texas rig bass I've ever landed - I've thrown that plastic elsewhere this year rigged similarly at this lake and had swipes...I was searching furiously for it earlier in the day oddly enough ?‍♂️?‍♂️
  14. one of my favorites for sure. One-Day! ...it's official weight can be so relative to length, too. I've had 6.8s that felt the same length as a 6. I do make a point of knowing my scale's average deviation, I measure it every so often with my desk scale and weights. It's usually about 1.25oz as the current one I have measures to the 1/4oz. The deviation is less predictable above about 3lbs, but I'm not fishing for tournaments or anything like that so as long as I'm within about 3-5oz I'm good. The difference between a 6-14 and a 7-2 isn't huge, as little as a single meal. I think for tournaments length is a much better and more consistent measure of angling skill and better for the fish too. I don't love livewells.
  15. That's an experience most won't ever have, too cool! All the carvers start somewhere though...Marling Baits has a really good video about that. Great job!
  16. Bless you for bringing a random bank angler with you, the world could use more of that attitude. I've had a few of those experiences and I don't forget the people who let me on their boats. I'm glad the bass cooperated for you after that, awesome!!
  17. Settle an argument for me here y'all...I got some yay-hoo telling me the bottom fish is no more than 2lb and says that a $10 scale would have a greater than 100% deviation from accuracy. Any chance that looks like less than 7# to y'all? Calm me down because I'm seeeing the reeeed this is why we can't have nice things
  18. Looks like a perfect spot for throwing a 25 ounce halibut jig. Gotta burn it though and let it fall
  19. To the mod who cleaned up this mess: I'm sorry
  20. It depends on where I'm throwing the lure. In heavy cover/veg etc I'll push everything together to try and keep the line between the weight and the hook from wrapping around stuff. In more open areas I'll give it some space and add a glass bead
  21. Depends on the weather and how much time there is to spend. But probably throwing at the elevation changes that have the most other stuff (veg, rocks, etc) going on, in whatever way makes sense considering weather.
  22. Thanks! Spring was for sure a battle but I learned a lot for next year. Summer night fishing is definitely my jam. I appreciate the kind words from everyone
  23. Thanks yall! It has been fishing pretty solidly for me, for sure
  24. Been working a ton all over, in places I'm not licensed for fishing. Finally back at my home water tonight, with some finesse gear. Biggest bank bass I've ever caught and second biggest bass I've ever caught, 7lb 1oz. She ate a 2" Creme Maxi Tail on an eagle claw 1/16oz insider tube jig. I call it the Wally Special, costs all of $4 to get the plastic and jigs. I will say, landing a 7lb bass on 6lb mono is tons of fun. That little jig popped right out of her mouth and into my hand ? Caught three more Littles and a few hand-sized bluegills. Love me some dead calm, new moon fishing
  25. Honorable mention...big longnose gar. Fights like a bass but has weight. A double digit longnose is probably the longest fight I ever had that didn't involve getting snagged
