  1. Unfortunately Michigan is one of those states that requires registration. while it is a hassle, it’s a one day thing and it last 3 years as well. Luckily I didn’t lose the documents and the cost is not a big issue. Thanks for the J2 issues comment, I will look into more detail about it. Those Newport Vessels trolling motors look great, unfortunately they don’t have an adapter for my kayak, one of the biggest sell points for me on the Bixpy is that they have an adapter for my old town, and while I’m handy enough to make mods, I don’t want to over complicate my rig (even more) Te solution of every question and post I have placed in this board, its a boat... I guess that is the ultime solution..
  2. Hi, I'm thinking of adding a motor to my Old Town top water PDL, while the pedals are great, when I take it to larger bodies of water, I wish I had a motor to explore new areas easier. I'm currently thinking of adding a Bixpy J-2 motor. I'm just not sure if adding it is worth it or should I just keep my pedal drive. I don't want to add large trolling motor since I carry mi yak on the top of my SUB. removing large components makes rigging time before launching ever longer.. on the other side I remember those hot summer days when the last thing I wanted is to pedal or when you know you need to move but your next point is so far. Also, pedal drives are expensive and I'm sure once I have a motor I wont be using that drive much, and since these are so unique, its not like I will be able to sell it. I just bought my kayak back in June. how did you decide to add a motor to your kayak?? do you think is was worth the extra cost?? how do I justify the extra cost while I have that very expensive PDL (need to convince myself I'm doing the right thing)
  3. I stopped using the front and rear straps as well, I now run one strap on the back, and two trough the hole of he pedal drive at the center of the kayak to each side, it makes it very easy to tide.
  4. I use this method to load my kayak, the strap in the two racks works great for my heavy kayak.
  5. thanks! I really not completely sold on the idea that you have to match the forage to get those bass to bite, but at the same time it doesn't hurt! but every time I look under my kayak I just see bluegill and small fish! I guess I'll start looking at perch color lures.
  6. Hi! I been searching the webs for information on Southeast Michigan bait fish info (my home lake is Kent lake at Kensington metropark) either there is not a lot of info or its very outdated. Also, I'm not well trained (not at all!) in recognizing all the tiny fish swimming around. Could some of you bring a light on this?? I can only recognize a bluegill, do we have shad? shiners?? minnows? all of the above? I'm sure there is a population of everything but what is the most common?? what are they chasing this fall?? All info is appreciated! thank you
  7. I actually never payed attention to it, I don't really take many pictures or spend a lot of time looking at the fish I catch (they go straight to the scale and flip back to the water) but I would thought that if it was more common, I wouldn't even noticed it.
  8. When bank fishing the other day and catch this nice guy, tough is was one of the coolest looking fish I caught so I took a picture, didn't pay attention until I saw the pictures later but the red eyes are awesome. (I'm sorry about putting on the grass, I wanted the rod picture so I could get an idea of the size since I didn't bring anything but the rod and some senkos) question is, how common is this??
  9. The Tatula SV was my first choice when I started thinking about my next purchase, it is supposed to be design specifically for the application I'm looking at, only problem is that since they are not available in my area I really haven't even feel one. At least the Shimano options I got the Curado DC for reference. I guess at the end, any of these options on the $200 to $300 dlls should be a good choice. Those JDM reels look like a great option, I guess the only issue is braking the stigma of buying overseas and no warranty. but at the discounted price they offer, they seem like a no brainer given the quality record of these companies. Good thing is that weather hasn't been great, otherwise I would have purchase anything!!
  10. Also, thank you everyone for your recomendatorios, I'm looking at the Bantam and JDM Met reels suggested. they do look as a great options. As for the rod comments they all also seem great. I use St. Croxi Avids. they are fantastic for their price and I'm happy with them, I'm looking at the Megabass because everyone talks wonders about their sensitivity (and I'm not going to lie, they just look cool) so will try an upgrade. As for loosing gear I try to be very careful, I use leashes for the gear that is not in use and actually never been close to tipping my kayak. But I read stories from very experience people on this site that has happened to them. So, I just asume its a matter of time for that to happen to me.
  11. Thanks for the feedback!! those leashes look great, I love the way they can be attached to the main cord in your boat and to your wrist, I'm going to have to copy that.
  12. Hello everyone! After spending the summer reading your posts, I have finally made my own account. I’m not new to bass fishing but I’m coming back from a long hiatus (lots of catching up!) I started this summer with what I thought was going to be only rod, one reel and a few lures for just some trip up north (northern MI), to now have a fully rigged pedal kayak and tons of toys (things get of control really easy!) I’m planning my rig for next year, and I have an open spot for T-Rigs rod/reel that I think was my weak spot. To keep it simple, I only carry 4 rods on the kayak. a) Spinning medium light with Shimano Ultegra (this is the north after all) b) Frog heavy rod with some brand reel I don’t know I can name, but has huge drag (so much weed!) c) Medium rod with Curado DC with a for crankbaits. Now for the last position (the T-Rig one) I’m looking at the Megabass Orochi XX tour versatile (if they’re ever back in stock I guess!). Problem is that I don’t know what to pair it with. I’m not married to any brand, just want a good versatile reel to do big worms, creatures and stuff like that. I need something that can handle light to kind of heavy lures (again rod quantity limitations) and I would say jigs too but god I suck at jig fishing!! Right now looking at Curado DC Curado 150 MGL Daiwa tatula SV Daiwa tatula Elite For price range, I don’t want to go over the $250 mark (kayak = lost gear) the other inconvenience is that in the selection of sellers of bass fishing gear in the Detroit area incredibly limited (who would have thought with so much water around it) and low inventories of everything everywhere make it really hard to even look at the options and get an idea of how they feel. and last, not a lot of fishing friends ? Please let me know from your experience what will pair nicely for this application. Thank you all for reading, all recommendations and/or advice is welcome.
