not at all, but if you are a big time crank thrower then id suggest it cause over time youll be glad, but for a once in a while crank thrower any reel will do fine....what reel are you using now?

have you caught bigger fish before? how long have you been using the bait? there are to many variables to correctly assume that the only size fish that bait will catch, for the most part you have to be around bigger fish, or go to a bigger fluke to try and weed out little ones.. but there is no bait out there that can hold a disclaimer as only catching one size fish

find your spots on tourney day if you have to, if i took you prefishing and then i saw you on those spots with someone else, you will earn a reputation you dont want. cause the fact is on tournament day (if im reading your post correct) you will still be in someone elses boat and taking them to spots someone else showed you is just wrong

size shouldnt matter, if it comes to the point where im gonna popknot someone then im gonna do it no matter how big they are or think they are

ive lost to many lures to count over the years, some stuff just happens, i even cut my line with a luckycraft pointer tied on after i foul hooked a huge carp in a tournament, i didnt want to spend all day reeling that beast in and waste my time. I know its different from one person to the next, but i look at it this way, if you dont wanna lose it then dont buy it and fish it. But i certainly try to do everything i can to save it for the most part

when out on the boat i hardly ever get skunked, but when im ice fishing im usually to drunk, cold, or lazy to even care about catching anything ;D

Actually, with a bait that dives deep enough red would all but vanish. Maybe thats why the red hooks work, its definately not doing what most people think. The light spectrum, red vanishes about a foot under water, thats why cajun red line works. the red line is translucent(not sure if thats the correct word) but it allows light to pass, the red hooks are solid and they will not start to vanish, which is the reason they became popular , fish seeing the red of the hooks as blood or something. but on another note i did see a show before where one of the pro's drew a few red squiggly lines on the underside of spro frog to attract the fish

dave lines can break at any spot with a back lash or other scenarios, its not unheard of to have to re thread line.
