bowfin
It has been years since I have. We also used to spear one every once in a while. The first one I ever caught, I thought I discovered the missing link. We call the grinnel too.

Trolling for bass of all types!
I have drug lures all over a few lakes and never had much luck. Quite often when I fish with a friend of mine, and he gets in one of his super hyper-trolling modes (he fishes alot faster than I do most of the time plus a front seat advantage but it also gives me a little break) I have found if I will just throw a worm or bushhog out behind the boat and let it drag behind, I often catch something and a few have been pretty nice. I did tell him the other day that he needed to slow down because my spinnerbait was skipping across the surface as we traveled. I think he thought I was kidding. I have picked up a few drift fishing, useing live bait.

does bass taste good?
They should do testing of public waters and if the presence of any of those are found in fish in unsafe amounts (here) they post it on Texas Parks and Wild Life's web site, the water ways are also marked with a warning. I would imagine your area would have something of the same nature. You would have probably already heard if there is a risk from eating fish where you are at. Usually you just limit the amount eaten to a weekly amount. A few lakes here, were recomended that you not consume more than like 8 oz. per meal 2x a week, children is like 6oz. I think it is worse when there is no rain fall. Alot of times rain fall in large amounts will flush the lakes and rivers out. Lakes with power plants, ect. and places where there are large amounts of like coal being strip mined seem to be effected the most. I don't think that there is a major health risk but if above normal amounts are detected they do warn against it. Odly enough just because one species of fish has a consumsion warning others may not. You may be able to eat bass, crappie and not catfish or mussels, ect. it is not just bass.

does bass taste good?
It is like most other fish, depends where it's caught- the cleaner the water the better tasteing the fish. Time of the year or water temp. I don't like to eat bass out of hot, mossy water. And also how it's cleaned, stored and prepared. If you like things a little spicey try some of the Uncle Buck's fish batter. I like it on bass. BPS and some groc. stores carry it, it is simple. But there are also alot of other ways that it can be prepared besides just fried. As long as the fish is completely cooked it is supossidly safe to eat because of parasites. Mercury and Salineum are whats putting limits on eating fish in this area.

My trophy rules.
I guess my trophy sized largemouth would have to be over 13. I would probably still release her, but that would be a nice mount.

You all have an opinion on this?
RoadWarrior is right. You will most likely have to regulate them yourself to keep things in balance. Bass are a preditor and you can't have a forest of all tigers. As far as catching those in your pond at a later date and returning them to the lake, you had better check your local laws. They frown on that heavily around here due to the risk of diesease, weed, and parasite introduction. And also do not put sickly looking stock into your pond either. As far as the catch and release only in lakes I guess that is a personal and area issue. I don't have any problem with keeping smaller fish for home ponds or table fare. As long as you do it responsibly. : For I am of the 1%. but still 95% catch and release.

can a trolling motor handle be reversed
You might be able to rotate the whole top section on the shaft if nothing else. If it can be rotated make sure there is enough play in the wires to allow for the adjustment. It is possible that you may have to disconect and rerun them. I don't gaurentee it can be done, but I wouldn't think it would take much to make it work.

BOAT WINDSHEILD
A friend of mine ordered some for an older mdl. skeeter thru a fiberglass boat repair shop. They weren' t cheap but I don't think $160.00.

Bassmasters Lunker Club
They used to have a mount of the 1983 Texas State record Black Bass at a local boat dealer, that was taken on a nearby lake, I guess by a customer. It was only 15.23 and that was a huge fish. Bucket mouth was rightly termed. I saw anouther one the other day off of Fork 15.?lb. and you could take a picture of either fish behind the guy holding it and they would still look huge.

Bad Back(what seat to buy)
Here is the best looking one I have found so far. I have upper and lower back trouble my self. Denny Brauer endorses it. I know he had trouble at one time. I haven't tried it yet, I have been waiting to see if they can do something with the thorasic, first then maybe getting one to help suport my lumbar. I tried asking if any one had used one in a past post but didn't get a response. It is a little high but if it works would be well worth it. Cabela's sells it. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/horizontal-item.jhtml?id=0018552015951a&navAction=jump&navCount=1&indexId=cat21336&podId=0018552&catalogCode=IF&parentId=cat21336&parentType=index&rid=&cmCat=MainCatcat21276&hasJS=true

Ever wondered ........
I am also trying to reduce or at least arrange it into some sortable of order. That's not a real easy task. There are alot of new baits that I want to try not to mention all of the new awsome colors. I also want to try out some new lakes, plus the fact we split our time between 2 places each with different and mutural lakes close by. I wish I had kept a log like you did, but I didn't. So right now I have two patio tables covered up with stuff to take and the stay box is still pretty much empty.

new to site
No need to give up Fly fishing. Fly fishing for bass is getting quite popular here in lakes and ponds. Since we don't have running streams. You probably have the equipment. Welcome

a 3/0 hook in my wives cheek....
Man I would be reading through the "don't understand posts" and trying every thing that is in their for a while. That had to have hurt and scared the heck out of her. Hooks can get you, it amazes me almost evey trip I haven't run one thru my finger yet, almost but not yet. I had two large snagging treble hooks on a line, cast out and hung them into my back. They didn't go in past the barb, but I sure hopped around in an interesting fashion for a while, tying to get them out.

lower unit problem?
That sounds about right.

lower unit problem?
You should be able to have it welded. It will require a heli-arc rig. Your/ a boat dealer can probably recomend a welding shop that can weld cast aluminum or magnesium. They may be able to do it themselves I'm not sure exactly what it it is made from. It probably will have to be removed to do it right. I am pretty sure that who ever repairs it would prefer it tore down. If the hole is small enough, maybe they can patch it with out tearing it down. I would for sure drain all the oil out. The material needs to be clean and oil free when welded. Boat motors were not my specialty so I have never welded much on any other then like fins ect. So you may want to inquire with them before you tear it down. I noticed your location and you shouldn't have a problem finding somebody around there to fix it. I know somebody that had a marina and also did fab work on Lake Lavon. If you can't find somebody I can check with him to see if there is anybody he would recomend. He retired.

Best hand controlled trolling motor?
I have a 50# Minn Kota foot controlled, right now. If I had to replace it tomorow, I would still go Minn Kota but hand controlled/ w extention or a remote PD. ( I think they have remote)

Pumphouses
If it is a large cement structure, especially if it is older in age it may be an intake for city or community water, possibly industrial. Most of our electrical plants use some sort of cooling tower to drop the temp before it is returned to the lake. I would think that there would be a plant of some sort nearby if it is for return. The water temperature in that lake will probably remain "alot" warmer than the others if that is it's purpose.

which boat should should i buy?
These may be out of your price range or not of any intrest but have you checked out Porta Boats. They fold up and you can carry them on top of a car under your arm ect. I had checked into them to take if my wife goes rideing in the mtn. I don't remember the price, I think their kinda high. They sent me an e-mail to check one out at a local boat show but I already had plans. I think they can be used with oars or an electric or gas motor. http://www.porta-bote.com/

Sonar not working properly
If you just bought it I would think faulty unit. If you have had it a while and it did work alright, I would check out the transducer. If you have anouther unit just like it on your boat or know somebody that does, swap units or take it and try it useing a different transducer. It doesn't take much to damage a cable. LEI or Lowrance may have something about checking one out on their sites.

CrankBaiting Through Cover
They make several different kinds. I prefer the ones on retractable poles for retreiveing lures from shollow water and tree limbs. J.T. Bagwell tested one that looked promiseing, I think it was a little costly, of corse that is determined how well it works and how often you need it. The kind or simular that Raul showed a picture of can be found at most tackle shops and I believe wal mart. You can make one out of a what I call a river weight and putting a snap on it and attatching a string, but there are more variations.
