  1. I believe it mounts on the inside of the hull. The regular transducers mount outside. Billerica - noun. A term used by Hillery durring the Clinton years. ;D I just read a couple of reports online where they will work on .125 or 1/8" up to 50mph. This is not my personal experience or by anyone that I know. It would also depend on you unit I imagine.
  2. They would contain the structure to attract fish. I think alot of them here a sanctioned off. If you can get to it it wouldn't hurt to try.
  3. A friend of mine had a Skeeter Combo, it was an older, smaller model may be 18'. It was a pain if you were backseat. Wasn't any room for rods extra tackle, one live well. I even hooked one of his rods and slung it out in the lake, one night. The bags blocked the isle. I guess the back deck was adequete once you were rigged up. It wasn't real manuverable in stumps. He finally went to a different boat, his wife isn't happy, but he is. We did fish out of quite a bit and it worked.
  4. Too late Abelfisher check out the post on New Gimmic I think it is called the biosonic.
  5. Dang Gambler I just celebrated my 24th. Aniversery, but still you have got to draw the line somewhere. Man you love to fish ;D
  6. We have had this discussion before so here is a link to look though from the old posts along with any new ones. http://bassresource.com/cgi-bin/bass_fish/YaBB.pl?board=gen_bass;action=display;num=1112306236 There is anouther short one on page 4. I have no dought that they can tell a difference in pressure. I can feel the storms aproach up to 2 days before and can really tell about an hour or so before it hits. I can even detect lightning, all though I don't always put it together. I have a dog that is terribly afraid of storms and he starts to senses them about a hundred miles away. So surely fish can too. I am wondering that since they are equiped with a bladder and air tubes or latteral lines for dealing with depth, hearing and balance. It seems to me that they might become a little disoriented and agitated before a storm as the pressure takes a sudden drop. And this sends them on a feeding spree out of agitation. I have no proof so it's more a recent idea than a theory.
  7. I haven't seen the show, so is the concept based on who has caught the most fish professionaly or who has made the bigest impact on professional fishing? Some of the people named that are getting culled out really helped in makeing pro bass fishing and bass fishing in general what it is today. Fishing 23 years ago was a little different than fishing today.
  8. If Denny Brauer can fish competitivley with a bad back he has got to be a true fisherman. So I give him points for that. Jay Yelas just bought out all the really good colored Horney Toads at a small shop that I go to, so I will have to deduct a few point from him. But since he still patronises these smaller places, I guess I will have to give them back plus some.
  9. She probably recognises the need you have to fish. The problem comes that she "feels" the need to be together with you. Give it some time and assist her in finding some other activitey to do when your gone and she doesn't want to go along. Make an extra effort to do things with her (that she likes) when your not fishing. As far as understanding - probably not, but in my case I'm learning to work around it.
  10. The information that I found was that they hear between .1khz or 10hz and 1.0khz or 1000hz. We hear between 20 and 20,000hz. So they are only able to hear sounds in our lower spectrum and slighty lower. Sonar start out at 38kilo (thousand) hertz and goes up. They are not supposed to be able to hear it. Dogs 50 - 45,000hz Bats top range 120,000hz Dolphins 200,000hz. Whales are reported to be bothered by the low frequency waves used by some subs and gov. under water sonar.
  11. After hearing the roar of the motor and whoosh of the prop, the whirling of a trolling motor , a screeech of a stump scapeing down the hull and the waves sloshing up against it. A little ticking sound may calm their nerves. Sonars supposedly (fast search) use high frequency sound waves some where between 38 - 455 khz. Sound also is supposed to travel 5 times faster in water than it does thru air. Lowance says that they use sound frequencies 50khz, and between 192 - 200khz. Emitted and returned several times a second thru the transducer. The normal range of hearing in a human are low frequency waves between 20 - 20,000hz. Fish, the best I can detect frequencies between .1 - 1.0khz. It seems to me that even if they could hear it in those higher ranges it would be a constant sound not a click. Regaurdless if you can hear it then they probably could too. I have never heard it on mine out of the water, I guess I need to check it out some time. That is interesting that ya'll have noticed a difference in their behavor. Since I mainly fish shallow, stumpy water I really never thought about it.
  12. They used to make a variety of temp and ph meters for fishing that you could use at different depths. It was a widely practiced techniqe to locate fish before we had the electronics of today,. I haven't seen any for a long time. I couldn't even find a retractible temp meter a while back and I looked. You may be able to find one somewhere that sells aquarium supplies, acuacultural supplies, and possibly swimming pools if you can not find one for fishing.
  13. So you are fishing a stream or river and not a pond or lake?
  14. Mud ducks are my dogs achilie's heel. He gets watching them and will walk clear off the side of the boat. He has had a couple of pretty chilly trips back to the landing.
  15. In lakes I don't think it matters that much before, durring or after. If it is a long hard rain and the water is riseing I think it improves. I really like to fish when the sky is cloudy and/or it is lightly raining a little bit, and it isn't cold or storming. I do have one exception - there is one small pond that is close by, and I am not sure I have ever caught anything out of it after a rain. Mostly I just fish lakes and just use the pond to try out tackle, practice or playing around so even if I was catching a few along on a certain bait, before it started, and they suddenly stopped after it quit. I wouldn't normaly try useing something different. I am not sure I have ever caught a fish out of it after a rain, or many even the next day, regaurdless of when I started.
  16. It is easier on me if I go with a buddy. I mostly go by myself or have in the past few years. Oh I forgot my Cocker Spaniel, he goes until it gets too hot, he's not much help though.
  17. I use to have one alot like you are describeing. You could put a floor in the bottom, like some styrafome and carpeted plywood, that would help to buffer the sound. But as far as an elevated deck I wouldn't advise it. That could be pretty unstable. I know that we had a few close calls with mine and that was sitting on the seats.
  18. George and his buddies eat what they have availiable they have no alternative. They also act out of self preservation, be it mateing, gaurding the nest or what ever. Lures are designed to trigger a response caused by these activities. They don't always have time to look at the menu, or the decisiveness to determine wether a bounceing jig is just passing thru or a ticket to the mother ship. It is a possible threat, and must be delt with the only way thay have. They may develope a more advanced and accute sensory system that enables them the ability to distinguish the difference between lures and food better over time. That also requires more brain capacity, so I wouldn't rush out and sell my boat just yet. As far as them passing on a gene to recognize a specific danger, well we are far more advanced and our kids still play in the streets.
  19. They haven't built any pizza huts yet and still fall for rubber worms. I believe they can be conditioned, but I don't think that they have the ability to reason.
  20. How does that go...$100.00 for every 1hp. up to 10 and $1000 for every 10 over that, something like that for a new one, Anyway, that sounds like a good deal to me, if it is in good shape. I had an old sears 5hp. and it was a good motor, it just had a rough home life. One thing you may consider is, how good of care does you friend take care of his things. If nothing else runs the motor probably won't either. Make sure you check the lower unit oil before you try to crank it if it has set for a real long time.
  21. Around here that might be a pricey item. There just are not that many 12' trailers used. Here 8', or 16'+ are the most popular so the 12' maybe either a homebuilt or specialty class trailer. Urban, lawn care and 4 wheelers use most of the smaller ones and farm and rual use the larger. One could be built fairly reasonable. There are "alot" of places here that build trailers, but used ones can be hard to find at times. I know they sell kits and you could use lighter materials (if you have the equipment). I would think you could find a boat trailer alot cheaper if that is it's only purpose. I am just guessing $100.00 -150.00 for an older used boat trailer. Maybe around $250.00 - $350.00up for a used utility in decent shape. Like I say those are just guesses.
  22. Glenn is Honey Hole Mag still in existance / online? I know the TV program changed hands.
  23. This is a link from the article section it might help you out. There are a few more at the bottom of the page. http://bassresource.com/fishing/depthfinders.html
  24. If you click on the nickname on the top left corner of their post and they have filled in the location in the bio it will show that persons info. And I will have to agree that Glenn has done a great job. And it gets more impressive the closer you look.
  25. Dig around a little in the past post and I think you will find there are alot of people from the northern regions. That is part of what makes this site so neat. You get views and tips from a variety of places. If you try to get too area specific it will just resemble all the other sites that we dislike so much. Tom >>>> caught 3 see ya Sat. Anybody seen Frank latley? High I'm Wendy @ Going Thurs......... look familiar? There is a section on Fishing locations under the Forums heading.
