  1. Here's a question regarding gimmicks! I was at an outdoor show promoting mine and dad's hunting business we just started. A guy in the booth next to us had some rods that have a buzzer on them. The buzzer is in the butt of the rod and there's a button you push right by the reel seat. When you push the button it sends a vibration down the rod and line to the bait. This does work as far as the vibration is concerned. The rod is built on an All-Star blank. This rod sells for a hundred dollars, same as the All-Stars. My question is do you guys think that this would improve your catch or number of bites? The guy was a guide and just promoting them for the man who makes them. He says that since he started using them he has impoved his catch time, on bedding fish, to under 10 minutes! I'm thinking about trying them and if they don't work any better well I'll have another 100 dollar All-Star rod!
  2. OHH Pick me, Pick me! Well I didn't sink my boat but did suceed in sinking dad's OLD boat. I was 16 and so excited about getting to use the boat for the first time by myself I overlooked the drain plug. I backed it off the trailer and parked in on the bank. Went pulled the truck out of the water(I was by meself). Got back in the boat and at that time didn't know that the hull was just about full. As I back it off the bank there she went. Luckly I was only in about 5 ft of water at that time. That was a hard phone call to make to get dad to come and help me. I'm now 24 and he still doesn't trust me taking HIS boat out! LOL! ;D
  3. I've only been a member for a couple of weeks now and I'm pushing 50 post! If that doesn't tell ya how much I enjoy this site nothing will! LOL ;D Great Job Glenn!
  4. These fish were caught up by the railrod bridge near Willow Springs. Out on that main lake rock bank there on the east end of the bridge. The first was caught directly under the bridge and from there back to the north. That rock bank is ALWAYS good for smallies. All the way back into Sandpoint with all the docks. Sunset is a really good smallmouth spot on Texoma. From the dam all the way to Grandpappy is good along those rock bluffs. The bank running from Solider Creek over to Caney Creek is a really good smallmouth hole! BTW a 5 pound smallie on Texoma is an awesome catch anyday! Next time you're here at Texoma let me know before hand and I'll give you a fishing report or we'll schedule it and we'll go out and I'll show you some good smallmouth spots!
  5. Yeah it was an awesome evening. I've caught bigger fish, both Largemouth, and smallmouths but not like this at the same time. Pretty fun for a last minute decision to wet a hook!
  6. Yeah I forgot to mention that ALL the fish in these pictures were caught and released! We kept them in the livewell because we didn't have a camera with us but as soon as the pics were taken they were released! I meant to mention that in the first post! I've never kept a smallie excpet for when I was a little bitty kid!
  7. Ok if this works this is the picture of the smallmouths that me and a couple of buddies caught. I've been trying to post this all day and BD finally hooked me up! The black was the only odd ball that day and weighed 5lbs. The 4 biggest smallies were between 3 and 5 1/2 pounds. The 2 little ones were about a 1 1/2 pounds a piece. Not bad for an hour of evening fishing!
  8. My GIRLFRIEND!!!!!! We were throwing topwaters and just as I went to make a cast she stepped up on the front deck with me.(for some UNKNOWN reason) Well I managed to stick 3 of the 6 hooks of that chug bug in her back!!! Let me tell you. No matter who's fault it may have been (HERS BTW) there is absolutely no way to convince her that you didn't do it on purpose! WOW I'm glad were no longer together! ;D
  9. Yeah it was a great outting for us. She had a ball and I laughed so hard my side hurt watching her. Since Saturday she has bugged me about taking her again. If the weather is nice the weekend will probably do it again!!! Even though I don't have any kids of my own it's sure fun taking her along!
  10. Thrilled that we didn't go. My niece and I had a blast even though I didn't do much fishing! LOL!
  11. It's the Evinrude E-tech. I haven't seen anyone with this motor yet but from what I saw on t.v. and by visiting this website I'm sold. No scheduled maintenance for 3 years and no break in period. And all kinds of other good stuff. http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/E-Tec/E-TEC.Advantage/
  12. I learned for the first time that you don't tell a 3 year old that you'll take them fishing the next morning and expect to do some other thing first. I told my niece that I'd take her fishing Saturday. I was planning on waking up and going to town to pay a couple of bills and clean my truck and then take her fishing that afternoon. Well there was this little girl sitting on my chest, poking me in the head at 10 til 7 Saturday morning wondering why I wasn't out of bed yet to take her fishing! LOL! :'( Well so much for the other stuff. I got up and took her to our pond and she had a blast. This was only her second fishing trip and the first where she actually fished. On her little pole she caught 4 palm sized bluegills and also 2 bass about a pound a piece. She squealed like something had a hold of her leg, when she hooked those bass. Even though I didn't want to get out of bed early I did and glad that we went. Was supposed to go out bass fishing on the lake that morning but my buddy's low unit went out on his boat Friday so we didn't go.
  13. While pre fishing one day here on my home lake I decided to fish a fluke around the docks. Well Dad went with me. He was showing me where several of the guides kept holding nets in their boat slips when the bait is tuff to catch. As we were going around the end of a dock he told me to skip my fluke under the end because there was a holding net. Well we were moving pretty fast and I skipped anyway without hitting the trolling motor to slow us down a bit. Low and behold about a 6lb black was following the fluke and I was reaching back with one hand holding the rod to keep the fluke in front of her and trying to reach the trolling motor to stop the progress of the boat. (Bad body position to be in) She finally hit the fluke and when I gave the one handed hook set the rod came out of my hand. I instinctively went to drop on one knee and reach for the now sinking rod. Well I was off balance and SPLASH I ended up in the water. Did get the rod and came up and handed it to dad. As I crawled back in the boat he says, "Look what I caught while you were swimming!" Haha real comedian I thought. I said well at least I didn't loose that rod and reel. At the same instance he asked, "where did those 100 dollar sunglasses that were on you head go!" WHAT A DAY!
  14. I'm just going to try to become more versatile on the water. I'm going to make myself fish deep open water structure. Something that I have a bad confidence issue with. Also I'd like to spend time on some unfamilar waters. I've never really fished many lakes with grassbeds so I don't know much about them but going to spend time learning.
  15. Thanks Guys! I'll give all ideas a shot. I need to do something. LOL! I guess that's the main reason neither one of us have started fishing as pro's in the pro-am tournaments around here. That and haven't picked up many sponsors yet, but we're both still young and God willing have many more years to keep fishing. BTW cgs2004 that's what Jay Yelas done the last time B.A.S.S fished here. (Lake Texoma, Ok). It was a winter tournament and he found shallow brush and threw a shallowing running crankbait thru the tops of the brush piles. Reeling it so slow that it ran about 3 inches under the water surface. He had a nice bag of fish for winter time.
  16. Gotcha! Will try it and let ya know how it worked this Saturday. Should be a good day of fishing considering this week has been nothing but mid-60 to 70 degree days. Hopefully warm that water up a few degrees. Supposed to stay that way thru the weekend. Thanks again for your help!
  17. Thanks for the tip. Going out Saturday just to play around and will try it. Means I have to make a 2 hour run down to bass pro or gander mountian, if they have them, Friday! ;D I live on Lake Texoma in Oklahoma. It's a great smallmouth lake but people rarely fish for them. The people that do and master it do really awesome in tournaments. Jeff Reynolds is the expert on smallmouth here on Texoma. I tend to target the smallmouth a little more in cold weather because they usually seem to be more active than blacks. My biggest smallmouth was 5 1/4, so now I'm jealous after seeing your's! haha! Mighty fine catch.
  18. Thanks, I will definitely give it a go. I've never thrown one but going to assume just from the looks of it that it would be a great smallmouth bait as well as largemouths. BTW those are some really awesome smallies in your pic.
  19. I need help becoming more versatile. Me and a buddy of mine have been fishing bass tournaments for serval years now. We both started team tournaments together in high school and faired pretty well. During April thru June and September thru early November (the good months) we are strong. Even though this time of year produces easier fishing for everyone we still manage to bring home some checks. But the problem we have is early season. Fishing cold water we just can't seem to do things right. And during those burning heat months of July and August we seem to struggle as well. Just haven't figured out what to do in cold water to produce a 5 fish limit. And during the heat can't seem to pattern the bigger fish. We can cath those 14 and 15 inchers all day but can't seem to find those kicker fish. Any suggestions?
