  1. If you’re talking about the old bass x model with the blue logo I have this exact rod and it’s for sale too because I’m not a huge fan of it….. that said I think the rod would make a great crankbait rod because it loads up so well so that’s what I would use it for personally. I only don’t like it because I bought it online thinking it was a fast action and it’s a moderate to moderate fast at best it surprised me really. You could use it for jerkbaits too if you had to it just wouldn’t be the greatest for it
  2. For me I use poppers and whopper ploppers (75 and 90size) on one rod with monofilament a 6’6 medium fast st croix premier and frogs and Buzzbaits on another rod with braid a 7’3 heavy fast Abu Garcia Veritas plx that’s just what I do as I have a limited setup from a kayak ??‍♂️
  3. If you can swing the price 17 and 20 pound Tatsu would work great for you I’m sure. I use 20lb Tatsu it casts good and I haven’t experienced a break off with it. So I would recommend that if you can bite the bullet on the price. I use a lot of backing so I can get a couple spools out of 1 roll to help the price so I’d recommend doing that too
  4. I have a Veritas plx and it’s been nothing but great to me, so I’d have to vote for that….. I can’t comment on the other rod though
  5. X2 what he said ^^ 50% of however many centrifugal brakes your reel comes with plus a small amount of magnetic brakes and she’s good to go
  6. Power fishing for me……. my version of finesse is throwing a lightly weighted/weightless plastic or light jig and calling it finesse power fishing is just the most fun
  7. I don’t know how tight I just spool it on “pretty tight” I use 50lb power pro if that helps? I don’t know if that’s the “correct” way to go about it but it hasn’t given me any grief
  8. I tighten my drag and run the line through my fingers to give it tension as I spool it so it goes on nice and snug. Seems to have worked fine for me ??‍♂️
  9. I hate to brag but my spooling station is really state of the art I mean it’s a pizza box and a pen but it works ??‍♂️
  10. Abu Garcia Revo x……. durable brass gears and aluminum frame simple and reliable
  11. Under 100$ A vendetta comes in that size, power, and action that could be a good choice I think and closer to 100$ you could with a Veritas plx both fit your requirements and are good for the price point
  12. I have a 6’6 medium fast st croix premier split grip that meets all your requirements other than being moderate fast….. I will say the tip in reality isn’t far off from a moderate fast though…… I use the rod for topwater, jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, and squarebills essentially all my treble hook baits and I think the rod does a good job of these things I like it a lot
  13. That’s essentially the exact same as what I do with 20lbs and it never backlashes its awesome.
  14. im just getting back home now from a short stink on the lake and I did an “experiment” out of my curiosity because I’m still wondering why you backlash like crazy and I don’t so I was out on the water throwing a spinnerbait and I thought I’m gonna turn all the centrifugal brakes off my sx (which you know has both mag and centrifugal brakes) leave everything as I have it and see what happens no thumb or anything…… can you guess what happened? I started getting backlashes quite consistently ??‍♂️ Not crazy huge ones but enough that you’d be annoyed by it and that was all I did because after that I turned 3/6 of the centrifugal brakes back on and went back to fishing like nothing ever happened! anywho my point being maayyyybe the braking system really does make a difference ??‍♂️ Could I of still casted the lure fine with the centrifugal brakes off and just used my thumb and adjusted the mat brakes and spool tension? Maybe I don’t know I didn’t even try because I legitimately just did like 3 casts with them off and was like this sucks let’s go back to what works So that’s my story yes it is wonderful
  15. Tackletour did a full review of 12lb Tatsu and a knot strength as well. Interesting results also I saw your YouTube video of you fishing with the Tatsu and I did see you backlashing a lot…… why that was happening I don’t understand 12lb Tatsu is very manageable. I use 20lb Tatsu on a Gen4 revo sx which is very similar to the revo s you use. When I cast my 20lb Tatsu I don’t get any backlashes….. I will admit sometimes mid cast the reel will fluff a little but so minor that by the time my bait hits the water it’s gone ??‍♂️ I can’t imagine the braking system on the SX is thaaaaaat much better than the S model. So I really don’t understand why you were backlasting every other cast point being after that experience you had though I can understand why you wouldn’t enjoy the line because your fishing experience didn’t exactly look like a fun one ??‍♂️
  16. All my reels are Abu Garcia and I absolutely love them. I don’t think they’re the best I think other brands have better offerings namely shimano and daiwa. But for me it’s just preference and I’ll stick with them just because I like them ??‍♂️ my rods are st croix and Abu Garcia and I’m very happy with them too. For me st croix’s customer service has been very good and that’s honestly a reason I stick with them. It’s simple as that.
  17. I used to work at a golf shop 5 years ago-ish you should’ve felt the Winn grips Id install on golf clubs they were unreal My frog rod is a Veritas plx Ltd that was advertised online as just a regular Veritas and to my surprised it showed up with the Winn grips and I like them too btw
  18. you are 100% correct, the little rainbow actually managed to chip a tiny piece of chrome off right by the rear treble to my surprise
  19. thats an awesome story man! The lake I was on is also a small one it’s 30acres close to home. The only fish I know that are in it are rainbows and smallmouth. I was defiantly surprised to see that little guy on the end of my crankbait
  20. So I was out on my local lake today trying for some early season smallies it’s still quite cold here I think the high today was 8 degrees and periods of rain….. so I was throwing a red eye shad just letting it hit bottom and then just a sweep and kill retrieve seeing if I could get a bite and then I got this surprise catch! point being what can’t the red eye shad catch ?? also quite the ambitious little rainbow isn’t he
  21. St Croix rods are the way to go for “made in usa” I even have a premier ??‍♂️ As for reels all I can say is Goodluck, hope you can find something
  22. I have and use a 6’6 Medium Fast St Croix Premier split grip rod and I like it for what I use it for. I’d actually like to replace it with the same rod of a 6’6 Medium fast Veritas PLX but that’s my own problem
  23. I’m sure you can get enough yards on there for the intended use? I use mine on a Gen4 revo sx and use it for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs, Texas rigged plastics, and paddle tail Swimbaits and feel the line does great for all those things….. I probably could get away with 17lb tbh
