Help me pick a reel
Tatula 200 but the curado 300 is more comparable to the line cap of tatula 200 than the tranx or curado 200. If you are considering a tranx 200 then a tatula 200 may be too much reel. I do like the tatula 200 for those baits and especially with big diameter non braid.

Tatula 200 or Curado k for topwater and swimbaits under 2oz?
I belive the reason the list such small mono diameters rather than what is applicable to the reel is that they have painted themselves into a corner, multiple times. Let me explain. The tatula 150 is the old tatula 100 and the tatula 200 is the old tatula 150. They are the sames reels. I own both from each batch. A 2013 tatula 100 is the same reel but with a 90mm handle and a 2023 tatula 150. The same applies to the old 150 and current 200. The tatula 100/150 story: They made the original tatula 100 with a wide 34 mil spool that gave it extra capacity over other more narrow 34 mil spools of the time. This wide reel lead to a lot of complaints so they created the narrow frame version as the 2016 tatula ct. Later still they created an even more new tatula that used the ct's narrow 34 mil spool. They called this one the tatula 100. Daiwa also decided to dust off the old tatula 100 by giving it a longer handle and matte black finish. They decided to call it a tatula 150 HD since it has a wider spool than the current 100 and ct reels. They carefully chose line diameters to play off of this 150 rating which is why they use the diameters they do to get a yard capacity numbers. The tatula 150/200 story: this one is even more weird. 1st off they take the 2013 tatula 100 and punch out the frame to a 36 mil spool then remove the magZ and take the arbor all the way down to the spool shaft. This produces a spool that is identical in dimensions to a lexa 300 spool yet they only called it a 150 HD at the time. Later then these old reels were brought back they only bumped up the number to a 200 even though it has been a tatula 300 the whole time. I look at the reels like this. Tatula 70/80 Tatula 100 Tatula CT Tatula 150 Tatula 200 (old wide small diamter spool 300) Tatula 300 (modern narrow tall spool 300) http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdtatulahd.html

Penn Reel $1,587.34
Why is this thread allowed to be up when the mere mention of the place gets word filtered and entire conversations about $40 spools from that site get purned from peoples posts?

Tatula 200 or Curado k for topwater and swimbaits under 2oz?
You can easily get 100 yards of a 65# braid on a tatula 150. Daiwa screwed up the braid ratings on the tatula 150 and 200. They are both severely underrated. This is evident when comparing them to the same diameter mono line. The original tatula which is what the tatula 150 is was rated at 14/120 or 16/100. Assuming that 14lbs to 16 lbs mono is equal to a 65# braid depending on the brand then it will hold 100 yards of 65# braid assuming daiwa's mono line cap ratings are to be believed. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwatatula.html

Savage Gear 3D Bluegill vs Megabass Sleeper Gill
Gillly is an awesome bait. All you do is have to rig a 110 flat with a twist lock hook and slow roll it over shallow weeds and near cover like docks or trees. It will swim semi upright like a dying baitfish trapped near the surface unable to maibtain its orientation (ever seen a dying fish on the surface?) while also giving off panicked S swimming motions. Its a dinner bell to bass. I've caught a lot of big fish on it and had a lot of big followers. The savage gear 3d bluegill in the 5" size is also a great bait. It's like a slow sink soft bodied gantarel Jr with a deeper profile. Despite its 2.5 ounce size it doest crash as hard into the water as a gantarel so I like to use it around shallow cover.

Tatula 200 or Curado k for topwater and swimbaits under 2oz?
I own both the 200 and 150 and can tell you without a doubt the 150 will outcast the 200 with frogs. The 200 gave up the centrifugal magZ brake to have a deeper spool. That sacrifice means it gives up casting distance with compact baits under 1 ounce for additional line capacity and control to throw big baits.

For the Daiwa Fans a DC Reel
You can get this reel without DC. It's called the z2020 or z200.

Slow falling lipless crank recs?
Idk I use the 1/4 ounce super spot in upper 30s low 40s water temps because it has a super slow fall in the dense water.

New Tatula spinning reel
Coming soon. Tapered spool and no ability to reel backwards. This is going to upset the seasoned spinning reel crowd.

Major Craft MS-1
Yes. They brought some models over I see. About time.

For the Daiwa Fans a DC Reel
This is actually something I thought would have been a cool addition to dc reels. Glad to see daiwa do it but I'll wait for it to mature. I like that they dusted off the old z platform for this one though.

Major Craft MS-1
If you get a majorcraft get a real one and not any of the us spec rods on tw. Those rods pale in comparison to what is available from Japan.

For the Daiwa Fans a DC Reel
They did it better tbe 1st time around with that very same platform. Magforce 3d. This new dc reel is a z2020 with a DC system added.

My new reel: Johncoo Ares
Yeah but they want $80 for that one when I can get a tatula 200 for $117 from the same site. This one was $66 to my door and I got two spools. This was more of a curiosity purchase along with the lews sg1 laser rod the reel is on. I want to see how it compares to my other higher end similar setups.

My new reel: Johncoo Ares
Thanks for the mansplaining on what the tiny spring is for.? That company, I suspect, does not make anything. I have seen the same reel platforms for sale elsewhere. The only other instance of this platform is for a $125 reel. "Johncoo" seems to be a lower common denominator chinease brand. I think a "Johncoo" brand will be as low as we see this platform be sold. I'll let you all know how it responds to maintenence and fishing use over the course of a season or two along with my two piscifun reels.

My new reel: Johncoo Ares
This is a 9.5 ounce aluminum frame and dual aluminum side plate double bearing supported 200 to 300 size reel. Spool size is identical to tatula 200 or lexa 300. I'm going to call it a 300 size low profile. I got for $66 with two spools. I plan to use the deeper of the two with 20 lbs big game and braid on the other. I have no time on the water with it and only can give my initial impressions Braking: it has powerful magnets similar to a lexa 300 and that's a reel i use to skip weedless huds with no spool tension. One of the concerns with cheap chinease reels is that the magnets can often times be really weak and this is not something I want in a big bait reel. Luckily these are formidable Size/palming: its ok. Compared to a tatula 200 its wide too but not as flat on the side and the part of the frame your rest your thumb on is noticeably higher than my tatula 200, lexa 300 or bass pro revolution 300. Length is much shorter than the lexa 300 and about equal with the tatula 200 Build quality: this is a tough one. For starters it gets an aluminum frame and handle side plate. It also bizarrely gets an aluminum non handle side plate but the cam locking bearing holder is still a carbon plastic meaning that the aluminum side plate provides no additional rigidity. I've only seen this in doyo reels with the plate finishes like the coba and aurora. This is reel is painted. It has nice little touches like a rubber insert in the thumb bar, dual bearing support on the pinion and a wide conical level wind. It has a metal clutch and kicker. Dual clutch springs although one is comically small. Mine reel has one or more raspy bearing I need to service and there was very little grease in the reel. I'll have to give it some TLC right away then put it on the$60 lews 7'4" H+ mod fast and put it to work to see how it does.

Shimano 1.20.23??
Probably the conquest 300 and 400 monster drive. They'll let us have that for the US market.

Shimano 1.20.23??
Is this a shimano japan or shimano us thing? Shimano japan is getting some new reels soon.

Tatula 200 or Curado k for topwater and swimbaits under 2oz?
Daiwa US is probably just wrong again. The spool of the tatula 200 is the same dimensions as an old lexa 300 which was rated at 240 yards of 40 lb samurai braid. I think daiwa US just is bad at conveying information from Japan and get things wrong. They still list the coastal 200 as magZ which is wrong. It's a blue tatula 200.

Any thoughts?
Are there at least thread inserts and machine screws in use? Its the self tapers that just go into the plastic that are troubling for me.

Daiwa Coastal 80 Turn Into BFS?
Good point. Don't see a schematic for it either.

Daiwa Coastal 80 Turn Into BFS?
Yes.

Any thoughts?
Many of these chinease reels are made from plastic and don't even have metal thread inserts for the screws. They can be pretty terrible. I've owned a bunch. Metal frame chinease reels are all I'll mess with now other than maybe a bfs reel since that is a low drag pressure application. If you want a reel where the name on the outside matches the company that designed and built the reel then stick to fuego ct and up daiwas and shimanos.

Do you have to buy a dedicated swimbait rod even for smaller (1-2.5 oz) baits?
I also throw 1.5 and 2.5 ounce swimbaits from a kayak. A shorter rod and handle vs the normal 8' stick is definitely preferred. The rod I use is discontinued and was jdm anyways so I can't recommend there but I do like the tatula 200 for these baits. I like the control the magnets offer when casting 2.5 ounce bait around cover. Seems to help me put it where I want it.
