  1. The us one is the old one. Its a good reel though. They are the size of a tatula 200 and have a fixed rotor spool too but it is shallower and lighter than the tatula 200 spool with a faster spool speed but still controlled enough to work well with big lines. The jdm one is smaller with less capacity and has a magZ boost spool.
  2. Agree. Unsealed cork is disgusting and full of holes from filler falling out. Clean, fill and seal.
  3. That's another one I have considered. I think I could make the capacity issue work with 65 lbs braid. I wish lews sold a wide spool version of the lfs like bps did with some of their doyo reels. Another option. Same capacity issue as the lews lfs. I wish daiwa would sell the fuego HD in the states or china so I could buy a high capacity fuego.
  4. It's probably the new ones being tested. There are going to be new rods released sometime. There are pics from a leak on another forum. Basically they are half silver and half black with cork grips.
  5. I thought about that but punching with a 5500C?
  6. So got this 7'4" "heavy" lews laser stargate sg1 rod that seems more like a mag heavy or a heavy plus than your regular heavy powered rod. The action is a mod fast and at a short 7'4" this reminds me of some of the shorter jdm big bait rods so I had to get this rod to see it for myself. Guys even claim they throw 4 oz baits on the rod but I'm going to stick to 2.5 to 3 oz maximum. For true big baits I like a longer rod with longer handle. I'll be throwing plopper 130s, savage gear line throughs, 2 to 3 oz swimbaits/glides, beast hook paddle tails, 1.5 oz punching and maybe some big frogs. Its a $50 rod and I want to see what cheap reel under $100 that can be used with the rod. I want to test out the cheapest possible all things mag heavy bass setup. Any suggestions on reels? What I am eyeing right now: Johncoo titan: this looks like an attempt at a chinease okuma komodo or citrix 364. A popular reel that has lots of verified use as a cheap stripe, big catfish and bass swimbait reel. Teardowns of the reel show that it is well built inside with lots of metal components. I don't like the centrifugal only brake. The komodo is centrifugal but has a synchronized level wind that acts as an additional brake. It is large and heavy at 10 ounces with a 300 size capacity. Plastic side plate is a negative too. Too much reel but tempting. Johncoo ares: Aluminum frame and bizarrely, dual aluminum side plates. I doubt the non handle side even has an aluminum set plate that locks into the frame. It's just metal to be metal. Cool though. It also looks lower profile but is pretty wide still. I would consider it more of a 200 sized reel but bigger than a curado 200k. Big and wide like the tatula HD reels. It also gets two spools which allow me to use a 20 lbs mono or flouro for big baits and then a sperate shallower braid spool for punching and frogs. Still heavy at 9.5 ounces. No long term reviews like the titan. This one is new to the market. Pictures of the insides look like it makes use of lots of metal components. This is my #1 candidate. Haibo overlord: I was all for this reel because haibo actually makes their own stuff and it's a lighter reel with a 7:1 option. Pictures of it next to a tatula 200 show its a bit smaller. Seemed like the perfect reel but this same reel is used in the ardent magnum and there a large percentage of the few reviews saying the same thing. That its basically garbage and something mechanically let's go inside when used as a heavy duty reel. The same reel was also used for a piscifun thunder but its off market. Makes me wonder why they dropped it. Piscifun alijoz: Pretty popular reel. 300 size that tries to be compact. Powerful magnets and a known quality but its pricey for what it is. $90 reel. These used to be $60 or $70. I don't like the price increases on piscifun reels since they gained popularity on amazon. They were cheap when they were only on the forbidden chinease site. There any other sub $100 reels I am missing?
  7. I have discovered that that the company that makes these is called "haibo". They have a couple of models. They make the ardent reels and some piscifun reels also use haibo. I think the piscifun saex, thunder and alloy m are all haibos. If you like your saex elite then you might want to check them out.
  8. The coastal 200 and tatula 200 should fit your hand the same since they are the same platform. You can swap frames all internals and side plates between the two. The coastal does get big ol knobs and some more salt friendly bearings. And also that slick blue and black paint .
  9. Adding my 2 cents. Big bait rods can be either accurately rated, very over rated or very underrated in what they can cast for a big bait. I have a $48 7'4" heavy lews rod on the way that reviews claim is underrated and can cast a 4 oz bait. I'd be happy with 3 oz. It is rated for 2 oz only as a heavy powered rod. I don't have it yet but I belive it might be more of an extra heavy or heavy plus rod.
  10. 50% reduction in silver with cork grips.
  11. The sv spool makes skipping super easy. Zero spool tension, full brakes and off you go.
  12. Black one with orange accents? Daiwa rebellion rod in ml l, m or mh. A ml for power bfs baits with 10 lbs flouro would he cool. Ned rigs, weightless trick worms, weightless lighter weight plastics, 1/4 ounce dark sleepers with an emphasis in casting and skipping to cover. You can use it with whatever you want with a spool change too. I think those orange color sv spools are desirable and should be an easy sell.
  13. Tatula 300 sounds like a good match based on your requirements. It has a large diameter spool with fast ratio options making it very quick. The magnetic brake handles big stiff line and glide baits with ease. It palms better than the old lexa and has a more refined feeling and I'm a fan of the old lexa 300.
  14. Tatula 200 or 300 but both are big reels. What did you like about the coastal 200 over the tatula 150? The tatula 200 and coastal 200 are basically the same reel.
  15. There are leaked pics on another forum of the new tatula elites. A pro slipped up and left some mules on deck during a photo shoot.
  16. Sort of a related question. If the carbon xcs is a "throw away steez ct" in that it is tiny and super light but also super cheap, then what is the flippin stick version of that? What's the crazy light weight 7'3" or longer rod for $100 or under? Does that even exist?
  17. I got one of these on sale for $49. Reviews claim that they have thrown baits over 3 oz on the rod and that it can do big treble hook baits and frogs. This sounds a lot like a shorter big bait rod or a general purpose all things heavy in heavy cover rod. What reels are you using on these?
  18. Parts for these are impossible to find. You are offf getting a cheaper reel of the same or similar type in better mechanical condition to rob parts. Honestly if you like the reel then use this one as a junker parts reel and get better one. There is one on ebay for $120 in pretty good shape but has a t3 ballistic spool in it. You have the correct spool in yours and it even has the little tape thing on it everyone removed. Putting that spool in this reel would make it display very nice and fish very nice. If you really want yours to be smooth then I think procaster left hand reels from the same time have gears that will work and those can be really cheap to pick up.
  19. Pics of the guts. You can see the alloy m's use of metal extends to the clutch and kicker where as it is some sort of plastic on the carbon xcs. Also gets dual clutch springs. The little carbon xcs is growing on me despite the issue. Its cheap enough to be considered disposable. Like a throwaway steez ct.
  20. Maybe it will impress me on the water. I really don't understand the hype behind the reel I read in yt comments and amazon reviews. They are genuine comments but it seems like they are just regurgitating piscifun generated hype. I think some it comes from YouTubers that are reviewing the reels without announcing a sponsorship giving the impression that that hype is genuine and not paid for and the people consuming the content blindly repeat it. The use of INSANE in both the official piscifun and "the reel test" leads me to belive that there is some promotion happening here.
  21. Got the alloy m reel. It seems like an ok reel. I'll have to see how it casts but looks like a pretty basic aluminum frame reel with regular magnet brake. Reminds of a lews lfs with a lighter spool. I hope that lighter weight spool helps in skipping. Magnets seem a tad weak. I get about 3/4 of a second of free spool at maximum magnetic braking with an empty spool which has me a bit concerned about skipping ability. Compared to the carbon xcs the spool is the same size as the carbon's but with a heavier stainless shaft, no centrifugal brake, the handle is much longer, the magnets seems individually weaker but there are more of them and the clutch and kicker are metal vs the plastic of the carbon xcs. Overall the alloy m feels like a heaver application reel over the carbon xcs which seems more finesse orientated to me. Both reels were geary out of the box and absent of any grease on the gears. A dab of cal's fixed that. Size wise the carbon xcs has the same spool size but is a bit shorter and both side plate sit closer to the frame to make a more narrow palming reel than the alloy m. This is especially noticeable if you palm the reel and reach your thumb across the frame and put it on the handle side plate in a jigging grip. If not they feel about the same. Paint finish on my alloy m is really bad. There are lots of runs and low spots in the paint that are highlighted by the silver finish. The carbon xcs is a a little better but not as noticeable because of the matte black finish. For $89 get a lews lfs if you want a regular magnetic reel. Get a dual brake, centrifugal or magz fuego ct. They go for $67 on the chinease site and for that price they are okay. $59 like the carbon xcs would be better since you are getting a worse braking system but in a more robust reel. I'll report back after some use next year. The alloy m is going to see all power fishing throwing jigs and frogs and the carbon xcs is going to be used for weightless plastics, light Texas rigs and some lighter topwater. I'll add pics of the reels with side plate and main gear removed tonight.
  22. Braid with frogs in a high ratio. Deep cranks in a slow ratio. Weight transfer hard baits like jerkbaits. Compact 1/2 oz and up baits. Rigs with heavy weights like heavier Carolina, 3/4 oz football jigs, bigger biffle bugs if that's still a thing. Just don't try to run 20 lbs flouro through it.
  23. Backlash. These are wild reels. You should also avoid stiff line like big diameter flouro and mono. People who try to use them as a normal reel don't like them. They are a niche reel for long casting.
  24. I would try the used market in the tackle community. Post a looking for thread in the section here or the tt forum. Remember that lefty stars are reverse threaded. A spool tension knob should be pretty easy to find too. Those threads were used for many years. You can use other non tdz drag stars but a tdz will have a high end vintage look. I like the bass pro handle and knobs btw. It doesn't look out of place on that reel. You can also use a clicker for the tdz star if this reel did not come with one. It would be cool too if you could upgrade the spool if you like and fish the reel. I'm not sure what spools fit these old daiwas but a lighter weight one would make pitching a breeze. Also if you want another one then consider the td-x or td-z versions. Those are further refinements on the concept. Basically their final form. These do share spools with modern reels so it opens up many options for what you want to do with the reel. This thread on tt is a good one to read about these reels. Some of these are really cool. http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=81782
