  1. I cast the same way as those pros and run zero spool tension on all my reels. The braking system can handle the spool until the end of the cast and you thumb takes over. You dont need spool tension.
  2. I would back off on the spool tension knob when casting. All my reels have zero or near zero spool tension. My pitching settings are the same as my casting other than maybe I run the external brake a little higher if the spool is too wild when pitching.
  3. DC has been around since the 2006 antares dc or maybe even earlier? Seems like rather than develop a new system shimano has been working on making dc more affordable.
  4. Major Craft has a line of those really long finesse casting rods too for some Japanese salt water fishing. What US species are those rods work out for?
  5. I skip with my arm and wrist snap. All of casts have a wrist snapping motion from pitching to distance casting.
  6. I just realized that DC is older than SV. Not that it matters at all but we seem to think that DC is somehow new.
  7. I've heard this said a lot about the new Metanium. Just fish it and it should free up with use.
  8. 10# flouro or 20# braid. If I go below that then it's a 10# braid minimum.
  9. Buy a JDM Zillon. You like smooth don't you?
  10. You have to go JDM to get heavily discounted Shimano reels. The gaijin will pay msrp and be happy.
  11. Guys who have them love them. I kind of want one. I think they are more akin to an Abu conquest or ryoga than ambassador.
  12. Try the tackle trap. I know they sell handles. Otherwise you have a bazillion options on the auction site or that chinease amazon site.
  13. Does this reel actually have a drag and it is just always on lock down with no spring washers or is the handle actually fixed to the gears? Tacklewarehouse mentions 22lbs of drag.
  14. You need to work on your communication skills friend. This is what you posted. It reads as if you cast 3 grams 70 feet with an 8 foot rod with heavy emphasis on it being an 8 foot rod.
  15. 3 grams, or a bit under 1/8 oz, to 70 feet with an 8 foot rod. Gotcha.
  16. A 14' foot rod. That explains it. I need one of those for my deep cranks!
  17. On a bass rod or a surf rod?
  18. There must be something to the magnetic brake for the tiny 1-3 gram stuff. Spools capable of casting that stuff for Shimanos were/are sold with magnetic conversions. The Aldebaran bfs reels are also magnetic. The Daiwa stuff also is either magnetic or sv type brake for their bfs and "stream" reels over magforceZ. The spools with the centrifugal or daiwa brakes with springs need a minimum speed to effectively brake and these tiny baits struggle with that I guess. I've read up on this alot lurking the tackle tour forums and everyone that has gone down this route has experienced the same thing 1. They all claim that they gain better accuracy and bait placement with trout magnets when they can apply gently thumb pressure to a spinning spool 2. That magnetic brakes and "fixed rotor" type spools are better for the trout magnets but the sv type and centrifugal are better for heavier bfs baits and you get more distance. After reading up on all this I decided to go with normal bass finesse casting reels since the lightest I go is an 1/8 oz hard bait on occasion.
  19. I don't have anything capable of that light a weight or even any creeks to fish. I'm more of a 1/8 oz on the low side kind of guy.
  20. That vibration thread to me just seemed to just show "yeah the zillion is smoother and its not my imagination, here is data that proves it". Its a case of the metanium being made from magnesium with gears that aren't as smooth as the zillions.
  21. People do it all the time and they prefer the accuracy over spinning gear when creek fishing.
  22. Replace all your old ones with $50 SLX. Sell them and use the funds to buy a JDM Metanium for $280.
  23. Lmao i guarantee that thing does not back reel. It's the next insane step in the ridiculous drag arms race. No drag. Or infinite drag as in the handle is keyed to the main gear. 100 lbs of drag!!!
  24. After re-reading the op there isn't a need for a Shimano bfs reel if you are just looking to replace a M or ML rig. A baitcast reel with a light weight spool like a MGL, or SV with a soft M rod rated up to 5/8 oz would work well. Like a Mojo 71M Plastics and an SLX MGL or a Tatula SV. I handled a Mojo 71M the other day and was real impressed with how light the tip was for a "M". Reminded a lot of a big bfs rod.
