  1. I started a thread a few weeks ago asking what kind of a kayak i should get, the consensus was an oldtown sportsman. Very solid kayk, but the price is a little steep. Is the hobie mirage passport 10.5 or 12 any good?? Its a lot cheaper and is the hobie brand
  2. I looked into them a bit, ends up costing a lot for the motor mounted on, but i guess it ends up working out well
  3. If i end up going i will for sure ask you about it, maybe next year
  4. Oh ok, i never actually got to go this summer, his uncle ended up coming down to him. I might end up going next year, i guess ill see. Thanks for the tips, ill keep in mind if i end up going
  5. Yeah thats pretty much my thinking. I just wanted to see how doable it would be, and it is always an option in the future. How did it drive with the side mount?
  6. Ig one of my worries is that the kayak will be so big and heavy that it will be hard to paddle, but i dont want to spend an arm and a leg on the power setup. Is there a way to do it sort of budget?
  7. What trolling motor? And does it use a transom mount?
  8. Do you notice that the boat drives any differently? I was considering doing it this way as its cheap and easy, plus no damage, but it just doesnt seem right for its off center placement Is it difficult to register? And about how much would it cost? Why is the nucanoe easier to mount? Is it better than the sportsman 120? They seem to be at the same price range. i probably wont buy the kayak for another month or two, should i get pdl and skip the trolling motor, or get paddle, and possibly add a motor later on. My worry is that the kayak will be extra heavy from the weight of the fishing kayak to my gear, (i will pack light), but the kayak is still like 70-80 pounds i plan to use ij fresh and saltwater
  9. i dont know how a transom mount would work, not much room for it. I cant put in a link, but its called “BEST WAYS TO MOUNT A KAYAK TROLLING MOTOR” by Casting with Cody on youtube. The forum wont let me put a screenshot, its bigger than the required size. He puts a custom mount on that has 4 screws that go into the kayak, connected to the mount. It has something so the motor can go up or down remotely, and it can be swung up. He bought it from a fb marketplace seller who no longer makes them. sorry for the long post , below is the transom mount that i think MIGHT work the video that i saw is called “BEST WAYS TO MOUNT A KAYAK TROLLING MOTOR” by Casting with Cody on youtube. the seller on facebook marketplace is Kevin Dismuke’s Kayak Motor Mounts
  10. Looking to do it as budget as possible, and i know the rudder kit is almost 250!! And the xi3 is really expensive!! Id probably get a cheaper one, i dont need spot lock. I will put a 5 lb weight for an anchor if i need. The main thing that i need tips on is the mount, and where it should be on the kayak. as well as budget trolling motors
  11. I meant the sportsman but i will fs try that. Do you know what kind of material i could use to reconstruct it? I actually watched one of their videos and it shows it up close is it better to mount it to the front or back? Also, would the weight changes make a difference in floatability?
  12. Hey everyone, i plan on getting an old town topwater 120 and frankly think that the autopilot and pedal versions are way too expensive. Has anyone had any luck mounting a trolling motor on their kayak? Preferably, leaving no damage to the kayak, but im ok with some drilling and whatnot if thats the best option. I plan to use in saltwater and fresh if that makes a difference, please post pics if you have any! i have seen people make mounts for the front and back, but i have also seen people use the pole holders in ghe back to make a mount that holds the motor on the side, but that just seems impractical. Any ideas are welcome
  13. I can get a sportsmen 120 for 800, is that worth it? or should i go with bkc and get a pedal kayak for 900? I just worry that the bkc will be inferior to oldtown and it will be less stable or rust
  14. Yeah i wish i could afford that, most i can justify spending on the kayak is 700 would you guys recommend getting a 10 or 12 footer? I will be using in rivers, lakes, and the bay
  15. Anyone have experience with the brooklyn kayak company? They have a sale right now hwere they are selling used, open box, dented kayaks for a discount. They have a lot of options, including the pk13 for 950. Or the 10 ft version for 900. Is that better than the oldtown sportsmen 106? I dont know if i would need the bigger size, but the 10 foot is probably better as it will be going on top of my car. But they both have pedals which the oldtown does not.
  16. Unfortunately a boat is not an option for me, but a kayak would suffice. Im considering the oldtown sportsmen 106
  17. Can i test drive kayaks??? I will go tomorrow if i can. What kayak do you have?
  18. Yes!! You did respond on the other thread, and i think i found that exact kayak on marketplace. Would it be good for all my uses??
  19. One problem with the lakes are that no kayaks or boats of any sort are allowed on the lakes, so i cant really use fish finder to see the structure. And yeah i think i come back home early may, so i will probably explore south jersey. I only really know one lake, greenwich lake. yeah there are a ton of lakes the top left of nj, unfortunately im on the top right
  20. Perfect i will definitely do that. Are there any specific spots of the lake that i should target at this time? I will not be able to fish lake tappan until my summer break starts, but i will probably fish near my school. At the lakes by me i have found some spots that have tons of bluegill beds, are those where the bass would be?
  21. I looked on the website but could not find anything identifying the specific kayak. I dont know if pfd or a paddle are included, or the power supply. I will for sure ask, but i guess my main question is for my intended purpose, would this kayak be good? And hopefully comfy? I can keep looking
  22. I dont see it when i search that, can you put the link in this thread?
  23. Is this kayak worth 400? Seller says it has a working fish finder. I would use it in bays at night for stripers, as well as freshwater lakes. Needs to be sturdy and handle some waves. I can probably work them down to 350 with some luck, would it be worth it?
  24. Hey, i am looking to fish for largemouth bass when they are their biggest and easiest to catch from shore, so spring? Would they spawn in winter? I usually use a 4 inch keitech, is there anything u should use that might work better for bigger bass? In lakes near me, people use big glidebaits for the big ones, but I dont know how to use it, and would it work on spinninng gear? fishing lake tappan in nj if that helps at all i found some spots on lake oradell where i saw loads of bluegill beds, would that be a good spot to target? I know there are many more beds throughout the lakes, i just havent fohnd them yet.
