  1. Those are very good points. I will try it out, see what happens. For now, i will set up the kayak cart and the pool noodles on top, then just give it a try ig. Is a kayak easy to clean? It was abandoned in a stream, so there are branches, dirt, mud, etc. i have fished from a kayak before, but it wasnt built like this one and it was a one person kayak.
  2. Not much storage anove the kayak , so i was thinking of putting an egg crate. Originally the plan was to bolt it on, but i want it to be easier to take off. Any ideas?
  3. Completely agreed, but some problems need to be solved before i even get to the water. I will install storage and pole holders later, but my main worry now is wheels and something to mount to my car. I was thinking of talking ratchet straps, putting them through pool noodles then throwing the kayak on top and tying it down. I dont have roof rails or racks. The kayak is about 70 pounds i think, so a little tough to handle myself. But no means was this designed for fishing, so i will do my best to make it work. I got it for free, so it will do. For wheels i saw people take an egg crate, put pvc pipe through the bottom, then take a metal rod and attach wheels, then just strap it to the bottom.
  4. Recently got a good deal on a kayak, so now i have one. It is a 2 seater, and a little heavy, but i will make do. I will predominately be fishing alone, so i have to make a way that i can load it onto the car and bring to water by myself. Below is a pic of the kayak. I will have to install rod holders. Anyone have experience?
  5. How long before a storm does the barometric pressure drop? ///how long before the storm does it trigger feeding in fish
  6. I was thinking they might stick closer to the lake, i will have to try fishing the entrance to the lake
  7. Fishing a stream that runs into a local lake, the stream has plenty of yellow perch, blue gills, pumpkin seeds, baby lmb, and a few smb. The lake also has these, but they are more abundant in the stream. Lots of baitfish present, does that mean there are bigger largemouth bass too?
  8. I went to a stream connected to the lake and did pretty well. I didnt catch any lmb bigger than my finger, but i did catch my first smb. I suppose i shouldve used a floating mouse lure ?
  9. How have you done at the monskville reservoir? Spruce run and merril creek are about 1.5 hours from me, but maybe i will try it. Do they getthat busy?? Any spots with good shore access?
  10. Ok, i wasnt sure how the wanaque res is but i just assumed it be be as food or better. And the lake has been so low for the past month or so that the dam isnt even flowing. Its just acting as a wall. The river right by the lake has carp, I dont know about anything else but its worth a shot. Shoreline access is tough, but i might launch a kayak. I guess that inflow of water is more so acting as a deterrent, if what you are saying is true about the water quality. I will definitely have to try pompton lake
  11. Honestly. I recently got a simms solarflex shirt which keeps my whole upper body covered, then i wear pants and boots no matter how hot it is
  12. Ahhh thats not a bad idea. I have been fishing two hours before up until sun set, and i think the heat of the day is just making it too hard to catch fish. I dont know where you tried but im sure these principles stay relatively the same It also gets very buggy come sun set.
  13. I understand, i am just putting out most info i have so that way maybe someone knows more and can help, even a little. I doubt that it is worse water, because both are intended for drinking water in its surrounding communities It is however bringing in fish, i think mainly catfish but probably other species as well. I have looked at fishbrain a little and noticed people caught northern pike, which must have come in through the pipe
  14. Any lines are the area that i fished from, the arrows point to the pipe and the boat dock. There are only two docks on the whole lake, and the pipe line is running strong right now. Its pushing water in from the wanaque. I assumed that this fresh water would boost some life into the fish, and they would be near the dam since that is structure. Was not the case yesterday
  15. So weather like this… it will drop 10 degrees for 2 hours while having a small storm, then going right back up to 92. It is 50% humidity. There is a pipe that runs from another reservoir, and its easier to access the opposite side of this pipe. Should i get as close to it as possible, or it doesnt really matter? And on weather like today, is it worth fishing? My schedule is pretty open, and its not a matter of getting out to fish, its a matter of when. it might not make much of a difference today, but i went fishing yesterday and i didnt catch anything. Only thing i saw was a blue tailed catfish, which i think came in from the pipeline. It swam right by my feet
  16. Nice! I went out a little before the sun set and heat was not unbearable. I tried a new part of the lake but i didnt catch anything.
  17. Just looking on the dep website, and the state record musky was caught in skunksville. 42 pounds in 1997
  18. Lol, i didnt stay too long. Its too hot right now, and i have a fish finder, so i can eliminate spots quickly
  19. Fishing was not good this morning, snd it was very hot however i did get some good info from people that work the watershed. The water level has been down so low that they have been pumping water in from the wanaque reservoir, which is 1 hour away. Its at a part of the lake that is blocked off, but i walked past it and its pumping a lot of water. I can however get on the other side, which i think i will try tonight. He said he has caught smallmouth bass up to 4 pounds, but i have not seen any. He also says he was catching big hybrids, but i have not seen those either. I will try the new part of the lake and hopefully i catch some new species of fish? Another factor that might have deterred the fish from that spot is they treated it for algae 2 weeks ago, but i feel like that might not have an effect any more.
  20. Ahhh ok. I will set my alarm!
  21. Yeah thats an hour fifteen away, but if i get bored i might try it. With gas prices now though its tough
  22. I live in nj, and we had very heavy rain on monday, i believe there was flooding in certain areas. Tomorrow is wednesday, do you think it is worth fishing after so much rain?
  23. Do you know any spots with good shore access? I would be able to do that more than with the kayak, but its good to know both Ahhh ok, that makes sense but unfortunately i dont believe that my sonar does this. My sonar is the garmin castable, which was relatively cheap, but it tells me the depth, any movement, surface water temp, and thats about it, i think. I got it recently, so it might have features i am unaware of.
  24. Awesome!! There is so much water over that way it can be difficult to just choose a handful when looking at it from google maps. I will look into these in the coming weeks, thanks
  25. Heard monskville was nicknamed skunksville… i was thinking of going to the clinton res, but i can go anywhere. What do you recommend?
