Rods and Reels>>>and BASS
I agree the quality is still there; maybe it is my memory going but I remember being able to talk about different rod and reel preferences without it getting into bashing as it seems to now. That is why I totally stopped posting about my new rods and reels because I buy what I like and what I think will work best for me under the conditions I fish where I fish and my budget at the time. Sometimes I pick great combos and sometimes not. You know as well as I do what may work wonders for me here may work horrible for someone else because they fish under different conditions. I just don't see any point in trying to share what I have learned only to get in some disagreement with someone since there seems to be so many willing to jump in with both feet anyway and besides RW pretty much covers the way I fish other than I have Daiwa and he has nicer Shimano reels. I did buy my first Loomis the other day. ;D As below some people get the point the hardway.

Rods and Reels>>>and BASS
Watch out for a sun burn there Muddy.;D The mood and tenor of discourse has changed since we joined Muddy, it is hard to lay it down sometimes and not get in the fray. I hardly post anymore for that reason; just mostly watch and interject now and again. I'm around though you hardly see me. I'm just letting the young bucks spar to their hearts delight. I get enough excitement at my other hang out! Glad to see you Or most of you anyway.

How many here hunt with Slug Shotguns
Those Hornady sabot loads are slick for shooting at longer range. I am planning to put a Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T M2 Illuminated Special Purpose reticle scope on it. It is a sniper scope that will allow me to make up zero cards for different ammo like the Hornady, Dixie Slug and others so that I can change the zero of the scope anytime for whatever load I want or need to use. The shotgun I am getting is a military grade Sniper Shotgun specially designed with a heavy match grade fully rifled slug barrel capable of matching the accuracy of a .308 rifle at 100 yards. I will keep the hunting link in mind for some big Boar Hogs Texas style in mind. Thanks for the Information! Here in Arkansas I am up to my neck in Black Bears, and big ones at that. They restocked Arkansas with black bears form Minnesota and Manitoba, Canada years ago with the population as of year 2000 numbering over 3,000 and continuing to grow. They are getting so numerous in some areas here in the Ozark Mountains they are becoming somewhat of a nuisance. I am volunteering my services to help reduce that number yearly.

How many here hunt with Slug Shotguns
For hunting the thick stuff where range is limited I have been looking at Dixie Slugs and their version of heavy buckshot called Tri-Ball. Here is a link to Dixie's site: http://www.dixieslugs.com/products.html According to the factory Dixie's Tri-Ball load consists of three (.600') hard cast round balls (buckshot) in heavy duty plastic wad. It is legal in buckshot only states, but that is where all comparison ends. The alignment of the balls in the wad, as it leaves the barrel, give much smaller groups than any present day's factory buckshot. Groups as small as 5or 6 at a measured 40 yards can be attained with the Trulock .660 choke tubes! Tri-Ball II is the latest development at Dixie Slugs! It has 3-.600 (20 ga.) hard alloy cast round balls/buckshot, gives a velocity of 1100'/, and produces a combined Energy at the muzzle of 2539 ft lbs! It is classed a buckshot, albeit very large buckshot. They also say, despite what it says on the box, it patterns just as if not better out of fully rifled barrels. I plan to put that claim to the test when I get my new gun. I'm on the waiting list for Ithaca's newest slug slinger that is coming out soon but I am unsure what it will be officially named. Dixie's slugs are not for the faint of heart bucking the trend (pardon the pun)toward sabot rounds as they are full bore .730 diameter, 730gr. tin alloy heat treated hardened slugs that have shown outstanding accuracy in rifled barrels. They are for hunting game with a slug gun with the ability to hurt you like bear and big wild boar, etc.. Bear and wild boar are two of the hunts I want take my new gun on first also. By the way there is a new internet site dedicated to wild boar hunting out called "Wild Boar USA" http://www.wildboarusa.com/ all about every aspect of hunting wild boar. This is Dixie Slugs basic design for the Original Terminator, Express, and Xterminator. There are some changes in the wads between loads. These are 12 gauge-3Magnum loads for modern rifled barrels. The slug/bullet is .730 diameter and weighs 730 grs (like the original). All have been pressure tested by Ballistic Research to comply with required factory pressures. They are showing very good accuracy in modern rifled barrels. All are cast from a lead, antimony, tin alloy and treat treated for hardness, but not brittle. It should be understood that the Original Terminator, the Express, and the Xterminator are reintroductions of the basic 12 bore Paradox loads used by the British in Africa and India. The Dixie Original Terminator matches the ballistics of the .730-730 gr. Paradox Cordite (smokeless) load at 1200'/. Both the Express and Xterminator exceed the velocity of the British originals. It also should be noted that Dixie tests velocity in 20 rifled barrels, unlike many factory advertised velocities that are from 30 smoothbore pressure barrels. Dixie Slugs has designed these loads for dangerous and/or heavy game in heavy cover.

How many here hunt with Slug Shotguns
Many states have at least some areas restricted to slug shotguns only and some hunters just prefer to hunt with one. So I thought I would ask as fall approaches about those of us here that use dedicated slug slingers as their weapon of choice or by necessity for hunting. What slugs do you prefer, scope, iron sights, treestand, ground blind, spot & stalk, etc.? What have you hunted with one; deer, black bear, boar, wild hogs? What is your present slug gun and/or your favorite one. I am looking to make the move from total rifle hunter into the dedicated Slug Gun field this year myself so I am interested in hearing your opinions. I was all set to buy one of the original Ithaca Deerslayer III slug guns with the bull barrel and laminated stock when the New York Company went out of business. Now Ithaca is reborn in Ohio, and tooling back up with several dedicated slug guns to come including the Deerslayer II, Deerslayer III.

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Welcome, W1-10, to our group! There are all types of injuries many of us have suffered through life both physical and psychological. Being a police officer in today's world takes a lot of courage and for that I salute you. It is extremely hard on relationships also. Two of my brother-in-laws have been police officers on Houston PD in Texas. A 2nd cousin is a Texas Ranger that to learn how to walk again after working undercover in drugs and a buy went bad with him taking multiple hits close to his spine. I myself worked drug suppression in the Army but that is nothing compared to the daily carnage in human tragedy you have to deal with not just physically but emotionally. I know the emotional toll working drug suppression took on me and that was only a year. Average people too easily forget not all wounds can be seen and sometimes those wounds take the longest to heal. If you did not care you would not have become a police officer or cared how the things you see and must do are affecting you. Reaching out to others and especially forming relationships with others that are not fellow police officers helps not get that us against the would feeling. I know that is the tendency for police to only socialize with police because only they can understand and accept me but that is not true. There are many of us out here that are more than willing and able to understand that have the capability to be a close friend that will be there any time for you. Anytime you need, feel free to contact any of us by PM or email, and find more fishing buddies in your area because you can never have too many friends!

VALUES
My gear is a mix from moderate with a few higher end pieces when I run across a deal on a high end that I can afford which is few and far between. I caught just as many fish on the cheaper gear as on my more expensive stuff and when I think about that I guess it's kind of like when I was younger with so much more energy I made a lot more casts and now getting close to the 60 with arthritis and that dang nerve disease I fish slower, lighter line, and a lot more finesse. Now it's most likely just a matter of confidence (all in my mind) but that is where I spent my extra bucks on my gear to try aid me in feeling those finesse bites. Does it actually work? To be honest, I can't honestly say it does since I spent the extra bucks coming back to fish this way in freshwater after a long time away but I convinced myself it would. Confidence plays such an important part in fishing you can defeat yourself if you convince yourself you can't catch fish without expensive gear. Whatever gear you fish you have to fish it like you expect to catch a fish on each cast. Like so many have said the battle is more about what goes on between your ears than what is in your hands. It's the skill of the person using the tool that makes the most difference. Sure a better tool makes the job easier but it does not make up for a lack of skill. When I lived in Wyoming for ten years I would see many of my friends relatives show up to go hunting with us with .270s and. 30-06s which they had not taken the time to really learn to shoot well so they wounded animals we had to recover. They would swear at the guns and calibers as not being up to the game and the next time they would come out to hunt they had new shiny Magnum rifles. Now just like in less expensive fishing tackle if someone does not have the skill to use one tool getting a different tool which is all a new gun, rod, or new reel is cannot fix your problem if you lack the skill to use them. So in the end we all have to remember it is not about the tackle we have got to be smarter than than the fish.

what Glenn posted on Houston thread makes sense
Jesus forgave the sins of the man that was repentant on a cross next to him at the Crucifixion and said that very day would he be with him in paradise however although Christ had the power to set that man free from his fate on that cross Jesus allowed him to suffer the consequences of his actions and die upon that cross. Sometimes people confuse forgiveness with not holding others accountable for their actions. In all things there must be balance.

Vick to plead guilty...
The basis of why society makes things legal and illegal is because the majority have decided that some acts are bad for the people in a to be allowed to do and therefore punishment id mandated if an individual in the society knowing it is illegal violates the rules of the society. It is the principal of in order to have order there have to be rules and the rules have to be enforced otherwise anarchy rules as anyone can do whatever they want. You say bad things happen to animals every day; well bad things happen to people everyday also so does that mean no one should have a felony conviction for doing things to others, of course not. The simple principle is you choose to break the law, you choose to receive the felony convection if you do a felony crime. You break the law, you are to blame not the law, not society, not mommy, not daddy, and you are the one that a decision in your own mind of your own free will to go against societies laws. Like in Vicks case he was not even man enough to own up to his own actions but chose of his own free will to lie to try to get out of taking ownership of his own actions. Now that he was facing the possibility of facing even more time in prison and the loss of even more money he has decided to tell the truth and face up to his crimes which he could have avoided altogether by deciding killing dogs and fighting them to the death is not something he did not want to be associated with. Vick thought his money, celebrity, and connections placed him above the law and now he has found out they do not. The criminal persecution and its outcome will be costly lesson but only Vick is to blame because he financed the operation as he will plead this Monday. His life and reputation were all in his own hands and the results of this are his responsibility and his alone because he could have simply said NO.

Alpster back from Colorado........
So tell us more about where you went, stopped, and saw in Colorado Alpster! Having lived ten years in Wyoming and dating my wife in Colorado I spent a lot of time in some of the most majestic country a man can ever hope to see in both states. I miss the country and its beauty, as most who have lived there do, so tell us details so we can experience it again through your eyes. My two daughters are still in Colorado that I hope to see this next year as I will be going to Colorado to visit friends and them (I hope). My two daughters, both had time and kind words for me until they found out they were not receiving an inheritance from my mother's will after she died two years ago (ex-wife taught them they are entitled to everything). They both even demanded a copy of the will to prove that I was not cheating them out of "their" money (I could hear my ex-wife talking through them). Now my daughters do not answer the phone, return mail, or allowed any contact with my four grandsons for two years. You have a beautiful daughter that spends time with you for which you are greatly blessed so enjoy your great blessings. Life is too short to put off till tomorrow memories that you can be making today that will last the rest of the life of everyone you share them with. Your mother does beautiful art Fourbizzle.

Hey, Muddy Man, don't forget your favorite conservative or so I wish. Believe me when I say, I understand where you are coming from. I read and keep up mostly but after destroying my first id I was not going to be posting like I did before anyway so I am not concerned with my number of posts. You, Avid, and I joined around the same time so if you ever need an ear you have it. You and I hold a lot of opposite views but what many people today fail to understand is how to respect another person for having strong reasoned beliefs that are heartfelt though they may be opposite they are worthy of respect when they are heartfelt and reasoned held by someone willing to allow another to hold just as equally strong beliefs if they come by them in a like manner and are not over bearing or unwilling to consider others views. To others here the difference between many with liberal views for whom I have little respect and someone like Muddy_Man is that I know while Muddy in the end may choose not to agree with a position I put forth I know he will hear me out and consider my words before making a decision just as I would hear him out and carefully consider his point of view before making a decision. Because I respect the man, I would not dismiss his position on a subject because his political outlook is generally a polar opposite to mine. I am in some things liberal, some moderate, and some extremely conservative but if I listen to only those views that I know agree with mine then I deny myself a wealth of knowledge and insight. I know Muddy_Man holds his views as dear and as close to his heart as I do and for that I offer my respect and honor Dominick! So do not let someone steal your joy Dominick. We can only do our best and let God take care of the rest. Take care my fiend and I will remember you in my prayers.- Alpster back from Colorado........
I miss the country but not the cold during the winter. I have a daughter in Denver, one in Colorado Springs and my wife and I were married in Buena Vista, Colorado. It is some beautiful God's country. Buena Vista, Colorado http://www.buenavistacolorado.org/ Great Sand Dunes, Colorado http://www.sangres.com/np/sanddunes/index.htm The San Luis Valley of Colorado (SLV) is now being called the "New Area 51". It is also the home of unexplained animal mutilation (where the reports began back in September, 1967). http:// tmv.us/site/Books/The_Mysterious_Valley.html http://members.fortunecity.com/wwoveride/unexplained.html- Barry Bonds
Will Barry Bonds ever be considered to actually be a legitimate record holder or just another guy that had to cheat to get where he is. Only time will answer that question but for many there will always be that stain of steroid abuse attached to his name and claiming ignorance is not a good excuse.- Vick..............
Today a co-defendant took a deal to co-operate with the FBI and the feds said there will be an amended indictment coming out with additional charges. I think Vick is in some serious trouble!- Oreilly Factor Comment
Right now in America "Hate sites" like the Daily Kos are far more of a problem. Source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070728/ap_en_bu/tv_fox_protest Not just conjecture.- life moving to fast
Bob, many of us have faced similar experiences in life. I believe that we are to support one another in such times and those that have walked in those shoes are here to offer such support. "Broken Fin Fishing Fools" (at the top of the page) is a group of anglers here for you in time of need. Feel free to contact me and I feel Avid or Muddy_Man, as would others say contact us privately, if you need to talk any time. No matter how hard things seem at the time, know that "this to" will pass.- Do you hunt?
