When will Spring Arrive?
Cabinfever Warning Lakeview, AR 25°F Cloudy Wind: E at 7 mph Humidity: 100% Yes that says ICE! Brrrrrrrrr! How is a guy to fish in weather like this? I'm just accross the border into North Cental Arkansas just west of that pink sticking down into the state. It has been snowing, sleeting, and now freezing rain, oh joy. Where is a little of that "global warming" when you need it?

I WAS LIVING IN HEAVEN AND NEVER REALIZED IT
Good luck in your decision making on job location and fishing location Muddy. People always say you can never go home and there is a certain truth to that. I Love being back in the state I was born and raised in but it is not the same as if I had never left. People change, neighborhoods change, but then change is natural as we have changed also. I like the slower pace here and even though most of the neighbors are from all over they all came by with baked goods and greeted us when we first moved in liked people did back in the 1950s. Here people look after each other and each other's property more. It is not an Arkansas thing as where I am there are lots of retirees from all over but especially from up north. It seems more a step back in time where people can live like we used to watching out for each other being friends not like the life in so many cities today where no one knows their neighbors or dares speak to each other. Our extended community had bad tornado damage from that same storm system and so many people (complete strangers that have moved here from all over this nation) have gone together to help clean up, rebuild, and help those in need. This is not a wealthy area but I have to say it is extremely wealthy in the spirit of giving and helping freely of others in need. I know you have that same spirit and will be an asset wherever you decide to go. I wish you the best in your decision.

HD war over
Here is but one of the reasons from Israel: In Volume Storage - Matteris Ltd. Matteris is developing a novel, removable, high speed - high capacity In Volume Storage System (media and a recording/reading driver) for the enterprise archive and backup market. This innovative storage technology reaches high capacity by utilizing the volume instead of the surface of the medium. Using Matteriss Storage Technology, CD-ROM sized media can store Terabytes (=1000Gigabytes) instead of a maximum of 25GB as in Sonys blue-ray DVD. MATTERIS is developing a novel, removable, high speed - high capacity Holographic Storage System (holographic media and a recording/reading driver) for the enterprise archive and backup market. The Holographic Storage reaches high capacity by utilizing the volume instead of the surface of the medium. Using NST's Holographic Storage Technology, CD-ROM sized media can store Terabytes (=1000Gigabytes) instead of a maximum of 27GB as in Sony's blue-ray DVD. For these huge capacities, there is a need of high speed data transfer, or it will take days to back up a system. By writing in parallel millions of bits grouped in holograms (a hologram is a picture of 1000 x 1000 bits each), at the rate of every millisecond (1/1000 of a second), the Holographic Storage system is reaching writing/reading speeds of Gigabits/sec. MATTERIS has developed a proprietary holographic material with an entirely different concept than that of the commonly used photo-polymers. This novel material, based on nano-materials, is far superior to photo-polymers, offering no need for development (process-less material), no shrinkage, reading between recording sessions, daylight safety, higher capacity and many others. The enterprise high-end archiving and backuping generate and store digital data at an estimated rate of over a billion gigabytes per annum and it is doubling every year. Data is stored mainly in hard drives or archived using tapes. Both magnetic (hard drives, tapes and removable disks) and optical (CDROM, DVD) storage technologies suffer from inherent storage density limitation, which impedes these technologies from keeping up with the exponential demand for data storage.

New Rapala X-Rap Subwalk
The water here on Bull Shoals is very clear with a very slight green tint to it. Water quality is good with underwater visibility of 10 feet or clearer being normal(between 20 to 40 feet is not unusual).
-
New Rapala X-Rap Subwalk
I'm going to try the trying the OG - Olive Green S - Silver MBS - Moss Black Shiner Then I can do some slight color changes with some markers to see if it helps. I would think they may do well as it will be a difference from the regular lures the fish have seen.

New Rapala X-Rap Subwalk
You can walk the dog 3 to 6 inches below the surface. Runs on top to 24 inches below the water and features a slow-sinking pause and you can walk the dog sub-surface they say . I just read about them in the March issue of In-Fisherman and have my order in for some to try. Has anyone else tried any yet? http://www.rapala.com/products/luresdetail.cfm?modelName=x-rap_subwalk&freshorsalt=Both

Suggestions needed on Arkansas Lakes
It all depends on what you want to fish for. If you want diversity then the Twin Lakes area of Bull Shoals and Norfork with the outflow of the Dams having some of the best Trout fishing in the World for a change of pace can't be beat. There you can fish for Smallmouth, Kentucky (Spotted Bass), Largemouth, or Strippers and the rivers have German Brown, Rainbow, and Cutthroat trout.

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Sorry to hear about the neck brace fishfordollars. Around, here people in Cotter and Gassville are still trying to put things back together after the tornado from the same storm system that did so much damage near RW in Tennessee. I hope you feel better soon. Between snow, freezing rain, and wind lately it has not been very conducive to even thinking about going out on the lake. I sure am looking forward to some warm weather if and when it decides to come and stay for a bit. I hear you on the cabin fever! The Corp of Engineers on our lakes just changed the rules on the flotation allowed to be used on all the boat docks on our lakes here and it is going to cost possibly double (maybe even triple)to keep a boat in a slip now by the time everything shakes out which is a real bummer. Hearings are still going on but the change looks to just price everyone on fixed incomes like most retirees with boats in dock slips right out of the market. The Corps was supposed to have public meets a long time before this implementation period but they failed to do that. I hope everyone is feeling good and looking forward to spring and the spawn!

Barely Dodged A Bullet
The Gassville/Cotter area was hit petty hard RW but had only one dead.

Hope everyone down South is OK today
One came close enough that I heard the roar but it missed us. Thanks for thinking of us Muddy!

Barely Dodged A Bullet
Glad to hear you're OK RW! I thought about you as the storms passed through here heading your way. One twister passed between Lakeview and Mountain Home as that front went through here. It came close enough I could hear the distant roar. I don't need to be near another one as I was so close to one in New Mexico once it was like the scene out of "Twister were you see the telephone poles being pulled out of the ground" only in my case it was the larger three wire transmission poles and they came down on top of my car. It is days like yesterday that brings all that back and I do a lot of praying for people in those death machines paths. It was a miracle I survived that encounter in New Mexico so I always believe in trying to pass that miracle on to others. How about Union University all those dorms destroyed and damaged? That was a miracle that none were killed but I hear several are in critical condition so we need to remember them for healing everyone. I would have posted on this sooner, however the tornado knocked out the DSL cable. It was just repaired a couple of hours ago.

AA-12. World's deadliest shotgun!
Who cares about full auto (too expensive and too much hassle), just give me the no recoil semi-auto model and I will be more than happy, thank you. But you know the anti's will be gnashing their teeth because of where the semi-model came from.

What is your ethnic background?
There is part of the family tree missing because my father's mother's side of the family is unknown other than they were supposedly rich, from Dallas and her last name was Davis (Long story). The parts of the family I know of are Irish, English, and there is a lot of American Indian in the family tree.

Let's see where you are
Bull Shoals Lake and the White River Early evening drift-fishing for trout on the Arkansas White River. Often promoted as the "Caribbean of the Midwest," Bull Shoals Lake along the Ozark central border region of Arkansas and Missouri attracts divers for its abundant marine life and laid-back country way of life. I live in one of the houses up on the ridge.

It's now official: Mountain Home, AR # 2 best fishing town in America
Nice Stripper Redlinerobert. There are many nice places to fish and live. If anyone is looking for a place to relocate with a relatively low cost of living, in beautiful country where you can enjoy all four seasons but not bake in a long hot humid summer or freeze in a long cold winter then the Twin Lakes, Mountain Home, Arkansas area is in all seriousness a wonderful place. Nestled in the Ozark Mountains between two of the nicest reservoirs Norfork and Bull Shoals, the only National River Recreational Area the Buffalo River and National Forests there is every kind of fishing and hunting one can desire. There are canoe trips down the Buffalo River for river smallmouth while viewing some of the most awe-inspiring scenery in the Ozarks to fishing the outflow from the reservoirs (White River & Norfork river) in one of the top rated trout fisheries in the world. People from Germany, France and all over the world come to fish the place where you have the chance at 40 pound German Brown Trout. The lakes and rivers never freeze over and there are fishing tournaments held year round if you are into tournament fishing. Whether you like Fishing from panfish like crappie to big strippers to giant catfish or scuba diving in the crystal clear waters with a speargun, the Twin Lakes draw people from all over the USA. For the same square footage home here in Arkansas I pay 1/10 of what I paid in Texas and even though Arkansas has a State Income Tax my overall tax bill total per year still comes out to be less than 1/8 what it would cost me to be living in Texas under the exact same conditions as far as my taxes and insurance is concerned. Arkansas has one of the lowest overall tax rates in the USA, the cost of living, and housing is low especially when looking at a place back East, North, West like California. That is why Arkansas is one of the top retirement areas in the USA right now. A person can sell their home up north and buy a very large beautiful home on a lake here. So many people from the Chicago area have retired and moved to the Twin Lakes Mountain Home area its nick name is Little Chicago. If you like to spend time outdoors be it fishing, hunting, golfing, watching Mother Nature, and walking, whatever all year long if I thought you could beat this place I would have retired there and not here.
