  1. You are correct. He went by DRY and I guessed he was a Dr. but did not know his last name. He posted some great pics and wish he found this forum to continue.
  2. There was a Susquehanna river forum now gone where a member winter fished with the Chillee Willie on a stand up jig. He let it sit long on the bottom and moved slowly. The bite was lite.
  3. AI will generate an output with the knowledge it has at that particular time, but sh** happens unexpectedly that it can't take into consideration. AI should just be regarded as guidance.
  4. I bought a bunch of 6" purple from Bass Pro Shops last year. Easy to fish with. Don't have to flog the water with them and you can enjoy the scenery and just feel the line.
  5. If you are thinking better means it costs more, you might be making a bad choice.
  6. It's interesting that prop pitch is a topic because I recently bought a fan blade for a heater blower motor in my basement and pitch was one of the criteria. I took the old fan blade and measured one blade's width. Then, with the fan laying on a flat surface, I measured one side of the blade's height from the surface. I then had two sides of a right triangle, the width and the height, and used trigonometry to figure the two other angles, one of which was the pitch in degrees.
  7. Depends on what kind of rain. Best day I ever had was with dark clouds signalling the coming rain; no wind and rain was light.
  8. When we think of 60 degrees, our usual experience with it is with clothes on and it isn't that bad. Having 60 degree water all over you body is altogether different. Take a shower nekked and adjust the water to that temp.
  9. I have shortened rods like yours, but some I felt were too short when done, so think twice before cutting.
  10. I fish the Susky around the Wilkes-Barre area. There is a stretch of river along Coxton road that I used to fish regularly, but they widened the road and took parking places with it, plus I'm too old to be climbing down a very steep bank anymore, so I'd love to revisit those spots.
  11. I've been thinking about it. I'm just a shore fisherman anymore and going to the same spots over and over. I know there are several guide services nearby on the Susky, and just might try one next year.
  12. "Won't get into all the detail but lets just say 10ish years ago he attacked a young woman and he ended up doing 8 years in prison for rape and assault." Not having all the details makes it hard to come to a fair conclusion about the guy. Some of those types of cases are a "he said / she said" case and he came out on the short end. I would just keep my mouth shut and give the guy a chance.
  13. I assume it's a dirt road. Small wheels and deep holes don't mix well. Keep your eyes open. A wheel might go in but be reluctant to come out. Otherwise cool set-up.
  14. I live in NEPA and am in a similar situation as yourself mostly because of my age. A lot of places I used to fish have steep banks and falls are a real possibility. The Susky can be a difficult place to fish from shore with changing water levels just like any other river. Some places like Fish Commission access areas are easily accessed, but the water for shore fishing can be too fast or shallow like Apple Tree Access, Wilkes Barre Access and Falls Access. Then again, access to another place that looks good can be private and posted. The only place I've been able to find that's close is off of Route 92 between West Pittston and Apple Tree Access. It's just past a PPL power substation; a downhill left turn and a place to pull over on the right. It's then a few minute walk to the river. River height matters there too. You can find river level here: https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=bgm&gage=wbrp1
  15. I once worked with a guy who lost one hand up to the elbow. He would cast with the good hand and switch the rod to the other side holding it between his elbow and his side and crank with the good hand. He made it work.
  16. As a last resort you could minimize what you take with you. Kitchen sink not required.
  17. There are 1004 gas stations in Wisconsin that sell ethanol free gas. https://www.pure-gas.org/
  18. The birds in my backyard come during breeding season and disappear afterwards such as now. When winter sets in, I get chickadees cardinals, song sparrows and some which I see so seldom that I have to look them up to identify. Lee missed us,
  19. I'll be 81 in December. I fish mostly at the state park now only about 5 minutes away. I used to hit the road and get away from it all in the back of some lake where nobody goes or along the river. I quit that. At my age, a health emergency or falling could happen at any time and cell coverage isn't everywhere or I may not even be conscious to seek help.
  20. I do. I kill about 1/2 dozen in the backyard every day. You have to be quick because they see it coming. They are an invasive species from China and Vietnam. They don't seem to be extremely harmful, but being invasive they might. This is the first year I have seen them.
  21. Less wind and more sun make a big difference. Go later in the day when it warms up. Shorten your trips. My wisdom of the day is, you are only as warm as the coldest part of the body, so even a warm vest may not overcome cold feet.
  22. If it's fall here, it's spring there, so they could be active and in spawning mode. Good Luck.
  23. Smallmouth bass were introduced into the Susquehanna and have become the premier species in the river with no notable side effects to my knowledge. Rock bass were once plentiful in the river but are scarce now and I suspect muskie stocking is responsible for that. I would like to catch a few rock bass every outing than 1 muskie every few years if at all. On the other side of the coin, the once native American eel used to migrate annually up the river to spawn, but several dams downstream put an end to that.
