  1. I just picked up Athlon Sports preseason preview magazine. They have Oklahoma ranked #5, and they're picking them to win the Big XII.
  2. This is a bit of a surprise! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/397443-phil-steele-stunner-oklahoma-sooners-no-1
  3. X2 on both of these.
  4. Thanks for the ideas. I only had about an hour to come up with something. Everyone else was writing about immigration or abortion. I wanted to do something different. I couldn't use catch and release because I don't always practice it myself. Fourbizz, I had never heard of Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, but I spent an hour reading about it tonight. That would have been a good subject. Anyway, I ended up choosing a topic that is not related to the outdoors, but something I feel very strongly about...the BCS.
  5. I have to write an argumentative/persuasive essay about a controversial topic. I don't like any of the prompts that the instructor provided. I want it to be outdoors related. I have until the end of this class to come up with a topic. Any ideas?

It seems simple enough. By pressing that one little key, you can save not only your work, but also your sanity. For some reason or another, I failed to do so this afternoon. After spending the better part of three hours working on my final essay for one of my college courses, I hit print and lost everything. I had a few hand written notes to refer to, but for the most part, I had to start over from scratch. I know that my second essay was not as good as the first, but fortunately I only need a score in the low 80's to maintain an A in this class. Lesson learned- always hit save!
  7. I think that a lot of times it is effective simply because you're showing the fish something different.
  8. Ditto I use the Tru Tungsten shakey heads and a light hook set gets the job done nicely.
  9. That's awesome! I may have to break down and buy some.
  10. I like to dead stick a drop shot in shallow water. I just let my bait settle to the bottom and then give it an occasional twitch or hop. The drop shot weight ensures that the bait keeps falling to the same spot. If I don't get a bite, I'll slowly drag it (like a Carolina rig) a few feet and start over. I'll repeat this all the way back to the boat. Most of my bites are subtle and occur while the bait is sitting on the bottom.
  11. Thanks for the ideas!
  12. I mainly quail hunt. I put a lot of miles on my boots following bird dogs. On the rare occasion that I go deer hunting, I prefer to still-hunt. I never much cared for sitting in a stand.
  13. Does anyone have any good recipes for baking or grilling fish? I'm trying to maintain a healthy diet, so deep frying fish is out of the question.
  14. I stopped by the boat dealership this afternoon to pick up some Optimax oil, and they were selling waterdogs. Those things are huge! I was in a hurry, so I didn't pay much attention to them, but now I'm curious. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you have any luck? What kind of tackle did you use and how did you rig them?
  15. If you accidentally catch a trout while bass fishing with trout tackle and it dies, you can keep the fish for the table if you have a trout stamp.
  16. This is from the Arizona fishing regulations: A trout stamp validates a general or lifetime Class A license for the take of trout. This stamp is required for Class A licensees to fish for or possess trout in any water of the state where trout are found. It is kind of vague, and for that reason, it sounds to me like it's up to the game warden's discretion. If I saw someone fishing with a kastmaster in a lake known to hold trout, I would assume that he was fishing for trout. Do yourself a favor and buy the stamp.
  17. I use 8 lb flourocarbon.
  18. I know how you feel. I once went home on leave and found a stack of lumber in my parent's yard. I spent the better part of my vacation building them a new porch.
  19. Crankbaits and drop-shot are my favorites, but they're not always the most productive.
  20. Who's finished? I agree. That is why constructive criticism doesn't hurt my feelings. Nobody here feels superior, and nobody is angry. This is a discussion board, and opinions will be posted. Intelligent thoughts should be posted in an intelligent manner. That is my opinion. You don't have to share it.
