would it be silly
Imagine a tuning fork, perfectly tuned to ring out a C note when struck. It's a bare metal rod that vibrates consistently with repeatable results. Now add a couple of single foot guides on that fork, thread/ epoxy and all. It will alter the sound. Now double the amount of interference by using double foot guides. That tuning fork is no longer allowed in the orchestra no doubt. Those vibrations that it's hindering, that's the subtle bite of a bass vibrating up through your rod. Where you might feel a bite with single foot guides, if it's just in the cusp of transmissable then having double foot guides all the way up make it indiscernable. Now for the action - hold your hand palm down and hold your fingers straight. Now bend them. Now tape a pencil along the length if them. Did it affect how easy it was to bend? That is the unbending metal feet wrapped in thread and epoxies on your rod. Recovery speed? Just flick the tip of your rod and watch it spring up and down. Now tie a 1/4 oz lure on and do it again. Now 1/2 oz. Any additional weight on the blank will affect its recovery speed, nothing like a half oz lure - but it all adds up. It's all part of the system, the tool we use to chase that feeling we get when we set the hook into a log - and then the log starts moving. That heart thumping adrenaline pumping kinda light headed and dizzy sensation hoping we do all the right things to get our hands in this fish's face feeling. All double foot guides and maybe you don't feel the subtle take. Maybe the rod is stiffer than expected and less forgiving and the hook gets yanked out. Maybe the speed is awkward in its distribution of bend profile and the casting is wonky so you hit the bushes instead of just beneath them, where that 8 pounder is eying your t-rig or spinnerbait just dangling inches above the water and thinking "that looks delicious, wish I was a bird" I build rods to maximize performance, if I wanted a pretty stick I'd hook up with Kate Winslet or Kate Moss or Kate Beckinsale or Kate Hudson... shoot man maybe you're on the right track afterall

Quick Setting Epoxy Question
I'm more afraid of her seeing 15 untouched rods and 30 pounds of soft plastics and various tackle containers sprawled accross the basement filled with hard baits and terminal - I could lose a limb if she ever took a wrong turn heading into the playroom

Cheap Marbling Epoxy and Pigment
Okay cool, I can dig it. I'm gonna give it a go and I'll let letchya know the results. I'm also gonna give it a go as a jig paint, epoxy and pigment - skip the painting and go right to the top coat that is already colored

would it be silly
I'm sure it's generally negligible, but I meant the 3 combine (double feet, more thread, more epoxy) to add exponential weight. Still slight I'm sure, but compare that to the weight savings of Ti guides... worth the money? Wanna spend over 100 bucks on Ti guides or just use small single foot guides with as little thread and epoxy as possible. Get that Ti gain without the Ti price. The difference is a few grams at most either weigh, but consider the cost is my perspective. Also the additional feet create additional rigid spots on the blank dampening the vibration transmission and altering the speed and action.

Trailer Hook VS Just Using Longer Hook
My dad didn't have a dad and I've taught him more about fishing than he can actually remember, but I'm grateful he introduced it to me. You, and others here, are the grandad I never had that can share fishing wisdom with me, and I appreciate it.

Cheapest Jig Paint - can I use Mica?
I peeped the paint at harbor freight, decided I need to wait until the timing is great. Especially for blades and the added weight, I can see the testors being worth a take - would a rattle can be a mistake for buzz and spinner blades? I'm gonna play with devcon and mica on the jigs/heads and skip painting entirely, go straight to the top coat since it would need it anyway. No idea how many I'll need to do bro, it's mostly for me and my buddy for now so... but I might dip my toe in trying to sustain my addiction though. Market is saturated much to my woe, but if you never try you'll never know Right

would it be silly
@Delaware Valley Tackle There's another forum that used to be owned by a guy (he still kinda runs it) who literally told me he knows more about building rods than anybody in the game, said he had a part in many of the innovations in rod building over the years and we see his ideas at work all over the place, he even has his own magazine. He said there was an experiment done where the guides were not wrapped at all and merely epoxied in place. They held for years. @MickD is definitely right about the challenges of wrapping in metallic thread, it can be a pain to deal with. To add to what he mentioned, tension too tight and it snaps easily. @Chris Catignani was right, do what you wanna do. But do consider the implications of how it will impact performance and sensitivity with all that added metal, thread, and epoxy.

favorite casting rod grips
So I could pour my own and make it even lighter? How would one do such a thing? I might be more inclined to believe it was actually the increased stiffness of the carbon that would cause it to break, whereas the cork acts as a cushion - more evenly distributing the weight through many layers and across the matrix. I like the feel of the Winn grips, but I have like 6 carbon grips waiting to be installed. I have played with them a little on a rod before and was sold at the feel and implication of higher sensitivity (validated with anecdotal evidence by people I trust such as @Chris Catignani). I'd really like to get my hands on a recessed grip/Seat, I grabbed an old telescopic rod with one from a co-op for 4 bucks. It's 5 foot something and weighs more naked than my 7'6 mid mod rod with a half oz buzzer tied on. Haven't thrown it much since the pistol grip bothers my wrist throwing it - I like the drop seat but the pistol grip takes a different casting technique than I'm ready for.

Quick Setting Epoxy Question
@spoonplugger1 @MickD @Alex from GA I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you've used nail polish harder to successfully hold a guide in place? Alex mentioned epoxying over asap - but how long could one get away with Sally? Is polyurethane the same as permagloss? Doesnt that require more than adequate ventilation or a ventilator? Like not okay in my air tight basement with no windows? Been a while since I hit the rod building threads, I missed you guys haha

Cheap Marbling Epoxy and Pigment
I was thinking of using Devcon 2 Ton epoxy as my marbling base, with mica powder as the pigment. Just trying to add some flare behind the reel seat cheap. Grateful for any input

Understanding pricing of blanks
@spoonplugger1 Spoon, my dude, just droppin straight gold nuggets of knowledge on us. Wish I knew that before I ordered 3 size 16 Aero seats, two of them being the carbon version. So you use casting grips for your Aero spinning rods?

Trailer Hook VS Just Using Longer Hook
But I'm gonna search through some captain Phil spinnerbait wisdom... unless @Captain Phil you care to spare me the labor of searching through thousands of threads over decades sifting through tens of thousands of posts and hit me with the bullet points. I appreciate you being willing to share your treasure with the next generation - "treasure found is a great gain for a man, treasure passed down is a great gain for mankind"

Trailer Hook VS Just Using Longer Hook
Well... apparently one of you went blabbering about my idea to Berkley... But at least I can feel validated that Berkley stole my idea, I'm on the right track haha

Seasonal Night Fishing - What's Different
@TnRiver46 I get like 11 hours of sleep over the span of 3 nights, you're blessed my man. @Zcoker ehem, what do you call cold?

Seasonal Night Fishing - What's Different
Oh how I wish that were true! Even on the yak I'm electronicless. I'm blind casting towards shore and then towards the middle hoping a fish is somewhere on either side of me. Fishing would be a lot easier if I had any idea what I was casting at - aside from visible cover on the shore side. Any tips for an old school angler just going by sight, feel, smell and taste? And I suppose some hearing and presumptions about bass behavior...

Seasonal Night Fishing - What's Different
All the biggest fish of my life have been after sunset, and manyvof them close to midnight. All the other big fish I've seen caught were around that time too. I'm sold the big girls like to dance at night There should be a little red furrowed brown face to react with, but hey my 5 pounder up here is like your 8 pounder down there - challenge accepted 😡😁

Seasonal Night Fishing - What's Different
Very interesting, I'm relegated to night fishing presently because I only fish after my 2 little girls are in bed. I rarely wanna give up a day with them to fish, only a couple half days were sacrificed this year. I got one trip with a buddy on Sunday coming up, plan to be out all day on new water mostly. I'm excited because I've heard there's good fish, I'm nervous because it's new and cold and we have no electronics and the bass are following shad and gills around. I'm still hoping I'll bump into another good bass before the season ends.

Seasonal Night Fishing - What's Different
What's the deal with night fishing in the fall, especially Northern/ north eastern fall? Big girls still come out to play? Still hitting top water? Don't bother if I can't fish when the sun is warming them up?

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
Lienenekueegelel is alright, too much beer taste for me. I drink to feel things... I drink way too much for normal people just so I can remember what it's like to feel feelings. I prefer liquor and soda. My wife likes beer I was sober before I met her 7 years sober Now I'm 8 years drunk I like fireball, rum, vodka, whisky, double hard seltzer, and honestly if my only chance to drink is what you have, even red wine, I'll drink it! It's not that bad. It's okay. It's fine. I'd drink gasoline if it's all you had. Let's be friends. Tonight, it's hard cider that's rather tasty with caramel. Double hard seltzer after that, and either more cider or triple jam cider to follow up. I try to limit my drinking to weekends haha
