  1. Killer hip-hop scene out there though, Rhymesayers Ent been the underground kings for a grip. @ol'crickety what do portable document formats have to do with this, do you work remotely from your canoe while you fish? Sick job right there! Idk, I've had lilies wrap around my yak paddle just to prove to me that we are stronger when we unite! The fish like the thick stuff and sometimes you gotta go through a lilly field to get to the fishable water on the other side, if enough lilies swirled around an arm and a leg it just might not take long for the other limbs to get locked up too. Never mind throwing in an extra 25 pounds of milfoil clinging to you like a panicking lost child. I went swimming off a jetty with my cousins when in was younger, the rocks were sharp so they said I had to swim with my sneakers on. The second I started to surface it felt like I was kicking just to swoosh water through my Nikes (get it?). Wasn't just not helping, they soaked up water and turned into 10 pound sponges. I never swam with my sneakers on ever again, practically impossible. Maybe some converse shoes wouldn't be bad, but those ain't sneakers. I guess gall8ng in would have to be like falling into quicksand, don't panic, don't struggle, slowly find a way to float with your head up and think about your next move. Assess and stay cool. Let's just not fall in, especially at night, okay Katie? @Team9nine good stuff man, always good gettin some. I got skunked tonight, was dead slick and cold air. Can't always have the same great night again and again right? I'm gonna try another part of the lake another night this week, that has boulders for smallies. I'm hoping they'll be there at night still. Probably skip tomorrow night because the cold front temp drop. Unless the water gets choppy, then I'll hit some docks for LM again. Ever since I've been catching on the buzzbait and mostly only being able to fish at night the buzz has become my new ned rig. I can't even remember how to throw anything else haha
  2. Sounds like electronics are key... Count me out of the game here @Bird so what's different when you catch a LM?
  3. I'm with you on this, I've had some strange run ins and heard worse stories. There's a spot around I've heard from numerous people holds 7-8 pound bass, problem is its no boats allowed. Some of the spots I think would be good night spots are way in the woods, just a little too skeevy for me sometimes. I bumped into a guy once at a different spot, really good spot that's no boats again, that's in a high crime area. He was holding an aluminum bat and fishing a lipless crankbait tied to a steel leader with a bobber on it. He asked me if he knew me, I expected from a college I went to not far from there. Then he asked me if I ever did time, I look just like a dude from his cell block. After assuring him I've never been to prison I said good luck and headed back down the path. Then I heard him beating the crap out of some fallen tree with that bat. I don't fish there much anymore, definitely not at night, sucks because it's a good spot. But sometimes the boga bug me out, tipping over in the weeds can be disastrous.
  4. Show off what you've learned about either, and both if you can draw clear parallels. I pretty much only know SM like colder water than LM and prefer rock over wood or grass. Other than that I don't have much smallie experience or knowledge. At night are SM still deep? Still holding to rock? How much in one day will a bass move?
  5. @Bluebasser86 appreciate the breakdown bro, good luck with AOY. @ol'crickety now you're just making me feel bad haha ? killer fish, I can't even imagine a string like that in a season. if I had more time to risk I'd venture into a strange side road ME bog. For now I'm hoping to upsize in the ME clear water lake and maybe even jump into a bronzie or two. I'd what they do at night though, LM still longer around cover and near shore, SM are a mystery if the deep to me.
  6. @Mr. Aquarium good stuff my man, I'm getting into making some tackle too. And my own rods. I gotta try to find some better water back home, hopefully that big pickerel pond I posted about will produce some chunky bass too.
  7. I was gonna ask you about today, good stuff crick! All in shallow grass of some sort? Seems like a tough day for big water fishing, great for smaller more predicable water. Days like this seems like a bass could be anywhere in a big lake, comfortable to move around a bit. Bright sunny I'd know where to look, shade and cover. I tell ya what crick, you got me thinking I need to invest in one of those bone ploppers. I do already have that same Flambeau box though haha, but I question my need for it now that in only throw a chatterbait ? @Pat Brown nice fish bro! yeah man, this has been unquestionably my best season yet, I've only thrown the ned a handful of times instead of everytime all year like usual and it paid off big time. This was the first time I've ever caught more than one 5#er in a season, and 2 in one night - the only time I'll have a better season is if I ever up my PB. Also the first time in like 4 years catching a 5# not from the bank, boy that fight was incredible. Peeled drag, dragged me almost into a dock then a boat and then some overhanging trees. Took a lot of awkward, uncomfortable, and today, painful paddling maneuvers. I pulled it off a dock and I'm thinking of getting out on the water every night this week while I'm on vaca. Second one was in like 1-2 ft of water, it's different fighting and landing'em in a yak and not on shore, been a while for me. I def get a little panicky haha
  8. I'm thanking Pat and thinking of moving to Me... Never caught 2 5+#ers in one night, only 7 over 5 in my life
  9. Also what time to fish is best, I been feeling like mid day picks up when there's cold nights. I'm new to lipless, but giving it a go this season. I have found value in it, like 30 small largies in the middle of a shallow Ish Pond no electronics, felt real good.
  10. For as long as the concept of value has been around, and Jesus was broke - speaks volumes. It's all smoke and mirrors, the "invisible hand" of the economy, democracy, freedom. We're slaves for a wage to a system we didn't create in a world we have no say at a time we can't change. A boat will always cost more than a regular dude can genuinely afford with reasonable consideration, and there will always be a select group who think of it as a new belt or sneakers.
  11. Pretty low temps, particularly overnight for like a week. What do you do? While we're here, let's get the fall transition thread going - break it down like this Clear water approach= Dingey water approach= Pond approach = Lake approach = All waters I'll be honest, I spent a good chunk of time fishing golf courses, it's totally cheating. But I feel like the fluke is... always worth throwing... But a solid fall producer. And then a popper, getting closer to sunset. Also a hard jerkbait. Clear water, idk, I'm new to it. Clear to me is over 6-10 ft visibility. Pat Cullen convinced me the buzzbait should be thrown everywhere all year long no matter the water. I'm trying it this year. The extra early transition/cold snap on clear water got me confused right now.
  12. My cousin scoffed at the idea of ever working, said if he ever got a full time job he'd make less then he does from housing assistance and EBT. Also I know if you go to college they give you less amount on your EBT. The system is designed to keep us separated by class/wealth and make little obedient lemmings who will never challenge the powers that be, can't bite that hand that feeds right? I don't blame business capitalizing on the opportunity to make more money by marketing to the top tier wealth holders. It's the artificial inflation that impacts us regular guys that bothers me, like same team bro chill. I couldn't afford a Jonny bass boat or Pelican Catch pwr a couole years ago, still can't today especially since they've gone up hundreds of dollars. I'm just learning to care a lot less about money, and think if it'll make me or my family happy let's just do it (within reason of course, a bass boat is unreasonable haha)
  13. I would never on purpose kill any fish, but those idiots don't understand how ecosystems work. A simple 5 minute required video with purchase of fishing license would make enough of a difference. Sometimes bank fishing it's tough not to have a bass slap the grass. I'd love to see some info on bass getting a little dirty and the impact.
  14. @Pat Brown/ 1/8 huh, that's little. Into shallow cover or over deeper water? I been buzzing a lot of this summer, lost 3 buzzbaits already. Gonna start making my own. How's the squeak on that one? Heavy fast with braid, interesting. How's that heavy fast cast the light lure? I started throwing it on a mh moderate fast and a medium fastish (slow side of fast) with 12 or 15# Big Game and noticed more hook ups, also remind myself to point rod tip at fish before hook set, seems that extra second helps connect.
  15. 4/o ewg on 30#braid into Lillie's, the bigger hook helps with weight. Don't even think about how to work it, sometimes let it sit sometimes move it sometimes wonder what the heck you're doing and why even bother fishing and then catch one and say "oh yeah, that feeling" Don't tell anybody but throw pink
  16. What's your set up? Including the lure itself I agree 100%, sometimes it's hard to accept that there's a day the fish just say no to it haha
  17. One of the reasons I started building my own rods is so I could build myself a stout spinning rod and not have a handle that's 4-6 inches too long like many salt water rods. Can spec it exactly how I want and make sure it's exactly what I need. Going custom just makes the most sense.
  18. There's a water round here that I saw an eel so big it I almost jumped. Easily over 3.5 ft, dangerous to fish there at night though. But if you say that's big fish then maybe I'll take the risk.
  19. "Days" you say? You're known for wetting lines at 2am, these fish were caught in daylight? I've got way too much growth here for chatterbaits, they only chatter for a second then stop after finding a new hat made of milfoil or some other weed. Wakebaits may have a place, but narrow coverage. I only have 1, I'll give it a go.
  20. Hope I didn't hurt the poor bastad then haha, he ripped a hole in my net and i hadn't been on my kayak in a while. It was an awkward endeavor unhooking the thrashing jerk and it took a little longer than I had hoped, plus I know their boney jaws can be fragile. Thanks for sharing your thoughts yall
  21. Does the size of other species indicate a likelihood of larger bass? Obviously the ecosystem is healthy enough to sustain big predators, but they're not all doing the same stuff. Is there a correlation to size of all species in an ecosystem? Of course there are different variables like preferred habitat for each species etc, but I just mean in general.
  22. Thanks for the suggestions yall I'm happy with unpainted since they're cheaper, nail polish has been doing the trick for me perfectly fine. Type of heads? D. All of the above haha I think presently swim jigs and some kind of arky/skipping jig are top of list.. variety of weights.. I don't understand why there are jigs still made that aren't vertical tie or recessed. It just makes more sense. I can't pour jigs, no ventilation or space for it.
  23. August has sucked so far, but I've only been able to fish in unfavorable conditions, in the same spots, soo weedy I can only use the same things. But I've now got a question for another post soon, punching in a kayak, I think that's my only option at this point.
