  1. well as far as i know there arent any gators in Lake Waco...the main reason i want it is to just get into a bit deeper water....pretty limited from shore as far as water depth goes....plus it seems like it is very portable and easy to manage....i am sure it must be rough on a windy day tho....thanks for your tips...appreciate it Cliff
  2. i tried them on a jig no luck but it sure did look nice in the water....i used and jig with a black skirt on a 1/4 oz football jig with a black/blue sabre tail as a trailer
  3. thanks guys...and right after i made that original post..at about 11 pm...my step dad-in-law called..."wanna go catch some hybrids tonight?" of course i say..."sure..be there in an hour" he lives an hour away...went there...got to the lake about midnight...had a hard time gettin some live shad...but we finally did...and i cought 4 nice hybrids...the biggest going just under 5 lbs....was a great day for fishing!! but now i am freakin tired! i just got home and have to take my wife to work in a few then do laundry....the go fishing with her dad this afternoon, then i will probebly go this evening by myself!!...man i love fishing!!!! Cliff
  4. well i got to go out to the lake this afternoon for about 4 hours.....i started with a jig and got nothing...then a couple nice fisherman in a VERY nice bass boat pulled up to the dock to load their boat....they told me to try something in watermelon....i said ok thanks...and put on a t-rigged watermelon seed trick worm...the only thing i have in watermelon....nothing....so i t-rigged a berkley blue fleck power worm...the bass were all over that thing like a fat chick on a bar stool!!! i have cought 3 bass in the last month of fishing almost everyday...today i cought 6! they were all dinks but man it was fun to finally catch a few bass....the biggest one was a whopping 13 inches....this was also my challenge for the month...well i was challenged to catcha 2lber on a t-rig....gonna have to check with avid to see if this counts... ;D....and thanks to him for all the t-rig tips he gave me on fishing the t-rig..i did exactly what he told me to and it worked perfectly!! Cliff
  5. gonna give these a try this afternoon.....do any of you guys ever cut the skirts down on your jigs? i have a couple strike king skirts and they seemed very long...so i cut them down and added them to a football jig with the sabertail bug as a trailer...it looks pretty good, hope the fish think so too...i will let you know how i do! thanks for the tips Cliff
  6. welcome ;D
  7. no gators that i know of and not sure about snakes...lake waco in waco texas is where i would be using it Cliff
  8. congrats...like LBH said...dont rush it...in a few years you will look back and wish you could just go back to highschool...you will miss it....good luck in college!! Cliff
  9. no guns involved in my story(thankfully) but in 2001 i was living in harker heights while i was stationed at ft. hood...got up one morning to go to work and my trucks passenger side window was smashed out....my expensive CD player was fine, along with my couple hundred CD's...my 2 rod/reel combos were fine....but my big huge tackle box was gone!!!..every piece of tackle i owned was in that box, including a few home made lures i was very proud of cuz i had actually cought fish on them. it really sucks when you lose ALL your tackle....i couldnt afford to just go out and replace it all..it took me several years to replenish my tackle...but i am glad there wasnt any guns involved...some of your stories here sound pretty d**n scary Cliff
  10. http://www.coverbonanza.com/product.asp?Product_Id=47130&d_Id=&l1=&l2= was wondering how they work? easy to fish from? stable? worth the money? this particular one has a trolling motor mount....i just kinda want something small to get me away from the shore a bit...any info is much appreciated Thanks Cliff
  11. abu garcia C3...about 70-80 bucks..there is a few differnt sizes, i like the 5500...5501 if you want lefty Cliff
  12. well i have 4 rod/reel combos...2 spinning...2 casting...i have 2 abu garcia cardinal C101's and 2 abu garcia 5501 C3's.....of all the spinning reels i have used over the years..these are by far my favorite...havent used too many baitcasters but i really like the C3's.....they are all mounted on cheap $20 walmart rods...except one cardinal is on a guide series rod....the others are berkley equalizer, berkley cherrywood and the other is on a shakepere rod which is 6'6"...the rest are 6'...all are MH except the equalizer, it is a med...anyway of all the stuff i have used in my life...these are the best to me..and all are priced well ;D Cliff
  13. thanks guys, i got a couple packs last night, but i think i am going to have to order jigheads online..thanks again Cliff
  14. You obviously haven't spent time around the same muskie fisherman I have. They make the vitriole expressed here about bass look like child's play. In Wisconsin and Minnesota if a big muskie stays in the boat, you go in the water. Catch and release of big muskie is an unwritten law. i think they are making the minumum length limit for muskies in MN go up from 40 to 48" i know the biggest fish i ever caught wasnt even a keeper!! 36 1/2 inches
  15. i have been fishing just about everyday for about a month now...3 dinks and a snagged catfish is all i have come up with...but i just love being out fishing
  16. has anyone used these baits by berkley? if so how do you rig/fish them? do they make for a good jig trailer, or better off by themselves? also, can someone recommend a good jighead to use for such an application? i checked at academy tonight and all i could find was plain old round jig heads...i was thinking a stand up head might be better Thanks Cliff
  17. yeah the one muskie i cought got me good too...after that i always had a set of jaw spreaders in my box nice fish! Cliff

wow, i just found this thread and it is really awesome that you guys support each other like this...makes me proud and glad i foud this site....i dont have any physical problems or anything (did shift my lower 8" of spine and pelvis and inch and a half to the left about a year ago..was out for a week..but no problems since...though the doc told me it probebly will become an issue as i get older) anyway, i just wanted say how great of a thread this was..very cool...i hope everyone who does have problems has a speedy recovery and gets well soon! Cliff
  19. yeah i hear that alot..but the thing is, i dont really have confidence in anything yet...little bit with t-rigs and spinnerbaits...but not much i remember reading a post i think it was roadwarrior posted for another beginner...it was something to the effect of...fish a weightless senko for 4 hours and nothing else...if you dont catch a fish...you need to find a new place to fish..that of course is the short version of what he posted...maybe this is my problem anyway..thanks for the tips...much appreciated Cliff
  20. went out for about three hours this evening....nothing...not even a nibble....getting very frusterated...i tried everything...cranks, spinnerbaits, t-rigs, c-rigs, weightless senko....nothing..the lake is flooded but i waded through the water on the ramp that leads out to the dock so i could cast to the brush and stumps and all that....dont know what i am doing wrong...i have only cought 3 bass since i started fishing this season...one on a spinnerbait...2 on c-rigs...all dinks....bout 12 inches or less...but it was a nice night and i am glad i went either way...i am getting frusterated with not catching fish..not frusterated with going fishing... ;D any tips? Cliff
  21. i cought one the same size...on a 10" walleye.....at one point he totally let go then came back and hit it again...buy the time i landed it my 1/8 oz jighead was actually stuck in the muskies lip..cant believe it didnt cut my line...was using 6lb XL on a light setup.....
