  1. Great story. I have just recently taken up Musky fishing. It is getting a bit late in the summer to start, but I figure we will have a nice collection of baits, rods, reels and what for fall. Now to keep to thread... As a young boy I remember a trip to Minn. on which my uncle fought a huge Musky for several minutes, only to get him within fet of the boat and see him open his mouth to release the 10' lure of which NONE of the hooks were set. That fish fought like the blazes and was never hooked.
  2. I'm sorry folks, I thought I cleared this up. The 9.9 is keeping it's Aluminum prop. The 9.9 came with the boat when I bought it. It is a 9.9 4S Bigfoot being converted to a PK The SS Prop is being installed on a new 502S. I'm waiting on some parts so they let me have the 50 with one of their Alum. Props till my stuff comes in.
  3. LOL Deep Too! :o This post helped me alot, as I am learning to solo launch too.
  4. :oWOW I cannot even imagine the rush you get catching em on baits you made! Very Nice looking bait for sure. Grats
  5. .....On a 9.9 the performance gain you get from going to SS is probably not worth the extra risk, probably what the dealer was talking about. On larger engines you could add 10+ MPH to your top end by going from Al to SS from my experience. So if speed is important, like in tournaments, or for long runs on big lakes SS would have an advantage..... :-[Forgive as I have no clue how to do a quote... Hot Rod, maybe I was a bit unclear my 9.9 is becoming the kicker, it keeps it's Al. prop. This SS prop is going on a new 2S 50HP. I am SOOOO looking forward to a lil kick in speed. We are guessing she is pushing my 1650SC @ about 50ish with Al on rt now. And this feller is not my dealer, this is a buddy's dealer. My dealer is telling perty much what I am hearing form you all. Thank you guys, I am so glad I joined this forum, you guys know your stuff! Dave
  6. I see that a good many of you run SS props. I can't seem to find the answer I am searching. As I have said I just got my first boat, and broke in a New 50 2S (Thanx for the help with that) I have more parts back ordered to have the 9.9 converted to a pro kicker. Included in those parts is a SS prop, which I am looking forward to as I know it will increase performance, however... A friend knows a guy that has a marine shop. They are telling me that I am making a mistake by having the SS installed. They claim that the SS is so strong that if it does not give I may twist shafts or do lower unit damage??????? This is the first I have ever heard of anything like this. But these guys are swearing I'd rather replace a prop then replace a lower unit and to go with Aluminum! Is there any truth to what they are saying?
  7. AWESOME LOOKING BOAT! I am in my first boat as well and feel your excitement. Very nice boat!!!!!!!

Nice Fish! 5oz beats a blank any day.
  9. UH OH 1 hook caught the whole family up. First Fishing trips are the best.
  10. Cool! Grats on the new motor. Perma Grin...Hehehehehehe Enjoy!
  11. Last spring my fishing buddy and I went to Coffeen Lake. Back to the tressel to float shad and live Blue Gill under for big Cats, well the bass were school feeding in such a frenzy like I have never seen. It was early April, but this is a power plant lake and warms long before other waters. Anyway, we sat at that tressel "LISTENING" for the echo of bass running from the north side thru that tunnel BANGING the wall for Blue Gill fry. We caught 20 to 24 inch bass "One rt after another" all morning. It was a blast. The Blue Gill we were running for bait avg. 3 to 5 inches and the bass were just inhaling them. Fish we missed literally demolished the bait. Blue Gill look like it had been thru a grinder. And they held on, I don't care how much pressure you put on a running line, they held on like trohpy catfish. Never saw ne thing like it in my life. Very Nice fish. Congrats!!!! P.S. Note to you guys that like a lil Catfish action.... Cut off a Blue Gill head leaving a lil gut, then throw it on the ground and STOMP the snott out of the head. Drives Blue Cat crazy, plus is soft and allows for more hook sets!
  12. >:(This is very discouraging. I had problems with my weed eaters and turns out the alcohol in the gasoline was destroying the gaskets. So Now I am wondering, is this new 50 2S that I am breaking in desinged for these new gasolines? I want to think that being a brand new motor it would be but tis less then a perfect world, especially when it comes to Technology versus Environment.
  13. O M GOODNESS! WOW I am so glad I bought this 50. Man I can't wait to see WOT!!!!! Runs great. Got an hour and 45 on it break in today, takin her out again in the mornin. Thanx for the help!!!
  14. Thank You for the info Catt and WayTooSlow! As of rt now I only have a fuel guage in her, lol, makes no sense cause you can turn your head and see if it is low on fuel. : Harness carries any wiring for guages so I can have a couple added. I was thinking tach and oil pressure but I am new to this game so I will consider and ask about a water pressure guage when I take it back for the rest of the parts this week. I have no jack plate! I am having some upgrades added but parts are a wee prob, I think maybe the guys at the shop are rt when they say that the warehouses have mis judged the economy, as guys are still buying motors and what not strong in spite of rising fuel cost. They got the 50 on and lemme take her to fish till the other parts are in, which include a high performance SS prop. They put an aluminum on for the time being, so I believe I'll hold off on any fine tuning till it is installed and just concentrate on breaking her in this weekend. And yesser I understand that I need to be loaded like always when I do tune! Thanks for the help!!!! Heh, CLTodd, you KNOW your going fishing just as soon as you can get legal over here. 24 bucks I think for you, Mo wants 40 for a non res yr long, but no biggie, I'll grab one when I go down to RB's to pick up the utility trailer! Psssst, put some steel leaders in your box, the strip pits have a nice Musky population! Safe Weekend to ALL!
  15. Heyas, I picked up my boat today with the new 50 2S Merc (On aTriton 1650SC) Carbuerated with Oil injection \ I am being told these newer 2S engines are 30% more fuel efficient then their predecessors. Also they are saying they have much more acceptable emmissions then the older model 2S. For break in, The dealer is telling me to shoot out of the hole as I always would, but only out of the hole. Planing off and running at steady speed. But to not take it further then 1/2 WOT for 2 hours, running at variable RPM's for those 2 hours, then 2 hours of variable RPM's not to exceed 3/4 WOT. After 4 hours like this he says a WOT is fine. The motor will be broken in.?. :-/ Not that I think I will find myself ready for the WOT, I believe this lil boat is gonna be a missile! I'm sure I will be nervous, I had a 9.9 on. (it is being converted to a pro kicker) 8-) 8-) 8-) I sank a load of cash into this 50 and surely do not want to trash it or rob it of future performance for lack of a correct break in. Can I get a lil scool gentlemen? Way2Slow I know this has been asked already, but I don't see myself affording someone to tune or set me up, is there refrence material you can link up? TY
  16. Excellent deal!!!!
  17. :)Cool I too have a Triton1650SC > I LOVE IT! Having a 50HP 2 str installed rt now. Am very anxious to get it out on the water. I pick her up Fri. Good Luck with the boat!!
  18. Ya thanx catt. I think Ima hold off on a JP. Terry tells me he can set this 50 up so I can access a lil shallower water and gain a wee bit of performance. 3 bills for a manual JP and the sound he made when I asked about power . LOL Think I'll save this JP money for the rising fuel cost! Plus I got a friend that can probably build one for me way cheaper. Thanx for all the help folks.
  19. Thanx catt good idea.. Just got off the phone with Region 4 and it seems there are no such restriction in Illinois. Also talked to the Missori State Water Patrol. They say there are no laws like this in effect over there either. Sooo I seem to be OK in both states. Yehaaaaaaa Off to buy a motor. Thanx for the help!
  20. Good Morning! Thanx for the input on my post "Help on a motor" I have not found ne thing to keep from the 2 stroke 50HP as of yet. Before I have this motor installed, could some of you tell me about Jack Plates please. Pros and Cons if any cons. And how big a motor can you run a Mini Jacker on, if anyone knows? If I put a Jack Plate on, can it be used on a bigger boat later? Again, Triton 1650SC is what I have. Thanx
  21. They are telling you by gospel. Im new to the board, My post "Help on a motor... I am taking my 1650 in for a new notor TODAY. It was affordable with the 9.9 and YES after the 6 weeks of newness I am ready for more Getty up! Only positive for me is that I am ending up at the 12 Grand they wanted for a 1756 W/50hp >> With a 1650 W/50HP and a kicker 9.9, so yesser if ya can swing the cash, buy a bigger motor now. I can go 60, but as stated, one of my Favorite lakes is a 50HP limit, and my MOST FAVORITE lake (COFFEEN) is 25HP limit, so Im still in there with my 9.9. Good Luck and Good Fishing! Hope ya find what ya want!!!!
  22. I live in Illinois, West Central, 15 mins from Downtown St Louis, so if anyone from Illinois can add info, I thank them in advance... Gonna do my homework tho... Thank You so much for the input thus far guys. Much appreciated!!! Hey Chuck! Yeah brother, seems like I am in the right place for ANY info I may need. Heck I been strugglin with back pain from running my TM and last night after looking at the boat Fluke built, I do believe I will be sinking an insert to recess my foot pedal. As soon as I get this motor on and goin, you and I are going fishing!!!! I'll get over next week and get a Missouri license, you try to get an Illinois so we can fish either side of the Muddy. Dave PS: I know we are all about kikn Bass but Spoonies are in till May 15th. Then she runs again from Sept 15th thru Dec 15th. With my new rig and LD's new rig, plus ole Grandma we got 3 rigs up. Plenty, 5 of us have passed Granny around, very tiring so one share rod usually is fine.
  23. You should be fine with the 5HP. I run a 9.9 on a triton 1650SC, floor and side panels, is a perty heavy boat. But with 3 of us me 200# my buddy 180# and lil guy @ about 100# I'm guessing it putts along 8-9 MPH. Thing is, your travel time is huge at slow speed, so you have to always be aware of the weather and how much time you need to return to the ramp.
