  5. My heater has been working pretty good lately. Actually small jerkbaits worked slow have been good the last two days. Wild Shiners are good any time.
  6. Welcome to the site Dan. BTW. I think your wife like you a little bit. Nick O
  7. Steve, I've got a Sea Eagle 375 foldcat. It's a two man Pontoon. It's a great boat. I also have a Sea Eagle 285fpb Frameless Pontoon boat. It's a one man. And a 176 Stratos XT. The only disadvantage to "any" pontoon boat is wind resistance. I wouldn't trade mine for anything, but I would probably recommend Kayaks for you and your son. There are several factors that may influence your decision. Storage. Hauling vehicle. Waters to be fished. Good luck in your quest. Nick O
  8. Welcome Jim
  9. Definitely down. Remember, you've got to keep pressure on them to keep them from jumping. It works most of the time for me. Sometimes Murphy's law comes into play and there isn't anything you can do about it.
  10. Awesome!! Randall.... You da MAN!!
  11. Thanks Trippy I kinda figured that was the case. Stopped and got a couple replacements yesterday anyhow. $6 a pop is not cheap, but not the most expensive cranks in my arsenal. I wonder if Clear Coating them would help? Anybody tried that?
  12. OK guys this isn't getting any easier. I know 'bout Traps etc. Yesterday The Chrome/Blue back RE shad trounced all over the: Chrome/Black RE shad Spro Arucu Shad Chrome/Blue (one of my Favs) Bill Lewis Rat L Trap Chrome/Blue Ya know, some days are like that. They want what they want. But the question is still unanswered. Has there been any Improvement in the durability? "Gee, that broke easy"
  13. All this I understand guys. The Bill Lewis Ratl traps have had chrome finish for years and not had major finish problems like the Red eye has had. I'm talking losing the chrome after only 3 or 4 fish. The one that we used yesterday I bought a year and a half ago, and hadn't used it much due to other crankbaits working better where I had been fishing. The question was. "Have there been any improvements in the finish durability of the chromed Red Eye Shads by Strike King?" Thanks for the replies.
  14. Kinda wore most of the chrome yesterday. Need to replace it, Just wondering if there has been any Improvement since last year? Yeah I know that SK wasn't the only one having problems with the chrome finish coming off. Loaned my blue/chrome to my partner yesterday and then the ingrate proceeded to kick my butt. Other Chrome/blue or chrome/black baits just weren't as effective.
  15. Captain Ken's Frog - Light Green Pickerel Spro Poppin Bronzeye Bitter's Buzzin Gator
  16. Right handed, cast right handed & reel left handed. Only time I would use a reel with the crank on the right is off-shore fishing where casting is not involved. And yes I have caught the 350# Blue Marlin and the 85# Cobia, 22# Pensacola red snapper, 185# Warsaw Grouper etc etc. Ran Charter boats & Private yachts for 21 yrs from Boston to Argentina, Gulf of Mexico, Bahamas, VI, Puerto Rico, Venezuela Ad nauseam. Personally ya gotta do what is right for you.
  17. Having fished the Spooks, the LC Sammy's and finally the Xcalibur Jimmy's for a couple of seasons now I've put more money into the Jimmy's. Quality & numbers they fished right beside the Sammy's and were about $5 less. Must admit tho thy don't last long if you bounce them off boathouses. Course the others don't either Nick O "Gee that broke easy"
  18. Tom, Here are a couple links to 2 active guides in the area. You can follow their reports going back a couple of years to kind of get a feeling for the area and action for that time of year. Of course no warranties written expressed or implied.. Fished West Toho yesterday with a buddy. A couple on wild shiners, but most on spinner baits, Silver minnow spoons in gold & pichin' to the Kissimmee grass and bulrushes. Had worse days & had better. Nick O uh oh forgot the links .. doh http://www.reelreports.com/captains/eddie-bussard.html I've fished with Eddie, and over the years have found his reports to be the straight stuff. Tim I've not fished with. http://www.reelreports.com/captains/tim-fey.html
  19. As time gets closer, let me know exactly when & where you will be here. I'm north of Orlando a bit but I'd like to get together while you're down here. Maybe I can take you on the St. John's River one day. Nick O
  20. That's a little bit north of my stomping grounds, but I'll ask around and let you know if I hear of anything.
  21. It's a BIG river, where are you going to be?
  22. These days depending on who you listen to, you'll hear that the Pros are going to 7:1 for deep cranks and yet others will tell you that a 5:1 for deep cranks. Obviously both those speeds are on the Curado side of the fence. I've got both and the citica as well as a few Curado 101D's. The 7:1 for all day cranking is tooo much for this old man. The 5:1 is definitely easier if you're cranking all day. But my little Curado 101D's do the job nicely for me. They're geared the same as the Citica 200E. I live in Central Fla and I haven't found the day where I've had to deep crank for the better part of the day. BUT if I lived up north I might change my mind about the 5:1 gears on the Curado. In the end you are the one who's is going to have this reel in your hand all day, and the money is coming out of your pocket. Don't borrow the money and don't finance it on a credit card. IF you can't pay cash for it, wait til you can. The Citica is a nice buy but the Curado is nicer. Let us know what you ultimately decide. Nick O
  23. Try keeping a crochet needle on hand. I've found them useful on more than one occasion. Nick
